Biography details Steve Jobs' anger over Android

article published on 21 October, 2011

A biography of Steve Jobs, set to go on sale Monday, goes into detail about his near obsession with Android. Walter Isaacson worked on the book for more than 2 years, interviewing Jobs multiple times, as well as numerous friends, family members, colleagues, and competitors of the visionary, and sometimes abrasive, Apple co-founder. According to an AP article on the book, it paints ... [ read the full article ]

I just saw that Discovery is having a TV special "iGenius: How Steve Jobs Changed the World."
When the man did almost NOTHING compared to Dennis Ritchie who died 7 days later.
Steve Jobs was a dick I've always hated him and will always hate him. I respect him for being as bright as he and for his aptitude at making money. But this man was no where the Genius of Dennis Ritchie. DMR was man WORTH remembering and deserves a proper show of respect. Not completely forgotten under the shadow of the Death of the biggest Con-Artist and Hypocrite of the century.

RIP DMR

It is a stolen product.
I'd be angry too if someone so slavishly copied my product.

I'm sure it did piss off Steve Jobs that Android became the most popular phone OS and yet it was open source. Jobs (and Apple) are control freaks. They herd all their little sheep into the iCorral where they can control everything they do. I thank God every day for Android. The iPhone was a huge innovation. Android simply improved on that and ended up doing it better. This is nothing but sour grapes.

I wonder if the majority of iPoop people know who Steve Wozniak is?
Oh, he was only the engineer who designed the Apple prototypes. Guess Woz doesn't have the charisma of a Steve Jobs. Because you know, marketing skills and charisma is what it what it takes to be a great design engineer.

I wonder how long it will be before there is a Steve Jobs holiday. The way people are carrying on, you'd think God died.

I think robertmo is talking about the beg of android. I mean obviously something was copied otherwise eric wouldnt have offered 5 billion to settle something. He was on apple's board in the beg of iphone stage, probably realized android was too similar to iphone even though it was in the works and then just made it open source and let the manufacturers take on the lawsuits. In the end, im glad android's around as an industry leader and giving more options to consumers.

He did not offer him 5 billion, Jobs basically said there is no amount I will take I just want them to stop using our ideas in Android. He was a hypocrite that's for sure, steal every other companies good ideas but as soon as you have your own hands off or we sue.

iPhone was based on the Palm, MotoQ, and all other touchscreen phones. Android did the same thing. Apple is the only company that actually bit**es about people copying them when they're the ones to copy people.

The Salesman Steve Handsjobs vowed to destroy Android. Ha,ha,ha......

"I will spend my last dying breath if I need to, and I will spend every penny of Apple's $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong. I'm going to destroy Android, because it's a stolen product. I'm willing to go thermonuclear war on this."

You all are a bit harsh and way unappreciative. All the major components of all his major 'inventions' came from someone else. This is not uncommon. His true genius was to take different technologies and assemble them into something very useful. That is why Apple is the richest company in the world.

He was a genius. Mind you I am far from an Apple fanboy.

Genius is a bit of a stretch. Jobs was at the right place at the right time with the true geniuses employed by Apple. He invented nothing....
He was a marketing person.

@Mez Didn't you just back up what most are saying? Apple did not invent, it stole or borrowed, whatever term you want to use.

I would think the look and feel of the iPhone. I might say the argument might be analogous with the law suit between App1e and M1cros0ft suing over look and feel back in the 90's over windows 95.. The argument Gates had was how can a thief who stole something from one person turn around and sue someone else for stealing the same thing... Xer0x was the first to come up with what we might all see as the current graphical user interface, App1e in copied it from Xerox, and MS copied it from App1e, and the case was eventually dropped or App1e lost, can't remember anymore...

In defense of Android's position on the dispute how can Android be stolen from Apple when it is so much more frustrating to use than Apple's interface designs? (At least 2.2.2.)

Apple invented personal computing they didn't invent computing
Apple took a second look at GUI they added the use of a mouse and more competent software
Apple took a second look at portable mp3 players they made them look better and added competent software. This is the only Apple product I own. I do not use itunes on my computer but I believe itunes on the player is superior to all competition.
Apple improved the Blackberry and created the first smart phone
Then there were the ipads...
Inventing personal computing is enough to gain my respect. The PC was created to crush Apple. IBM thought personal computing was only a fad. They built an open system so they could get other companies to spend most of the R&D money. Open architecture incredibly improved the value of personal computing.
If Steve Jobs didn't invent/improve the above someone else would but that would have been later and probably not as well.

as any commodore/amiga owner from the mid 80's will point out.. crapple were only ever second place when it came to personal computers. what became of them (remember the amiga/cbm desktop from about 1987 with it's nice graphics).. having 90% of the home computer "market" they got big headed and decided only "approved by them" software was allowed, that you bought through them.. 90% to gone in 2 years.. of course people in 89/90 weren't programmed brainwashed sheep like they are now...

anyway.. as for Jobbies.. he's dead, so his "opinion" doesn't matter. he was one of the people like billy "brain" gates who ruined computing with their "pay for it and give us world domination and vast fortunes" schemes. Profiteers don't invent, they steal ideas from others then use their financial muscle to squash any competition.. and that's bad for everybody!!

Well said ps355528.
The Amiga also had a CLI making it a perfect hackers machine.

The only part of the Amiga I didn't like was the digital joysticks. It was either on or off with no progressive movements like an analog stick.

Funny how the Amiga and Atari digital joysticks were interchangeable. Playing games on my old Amiga with Joysticks from an Atari 2600. :)

I read in an article in Game Informer that when he worked at Atari they had to switch him to night shift because he was a total asshole and no one else wanted to work with him. Just because he's dead doesn't mean he wasn't a total dick... which he probably was.

If Steve Jobs didn't invent/improve the above someone else would but that would have been later and probably not as well.
And Apple didn't invent the tablet either, HP has been making tablets since the 90's. Again he took someone else's idea and improved it, and marketed it better, not create it.

It's like Chevy trying to say Ford copied the Camaro by making the Mustang. Even though the Mustang was first. But just because Chevy copied the concept of the Mustang and improved it, doesn't now make them exclusive to that type of vehicle.

That's all Apple has done. They took someone else's already imagined idea (i.e. Smart phone, MP3 player, Laptop, Tablet) and rearranged and/or improved it, backed it with strong marketing and then claim everyone is copying them.

My case for Android is Apple didn't invent the MP3 player or Tablet, but I can admit they made them more accessible and mainstream. And they sure as hell didn't invent smart phones or apps either. Black Berry has been doing it for years long before Apple even thought about it. All they did in all those different products is make them more accessible and mainstream and....successful. So why is it not ok for another company to do the exact same thing to Apple.

Steve Jobs just had sand in his vagina because for a change someone was able to take something Apple did and improve on it just as he's been doing to other companies for years. And was getting successful from it. Android didn't copy Apple any more than Apple copied Black Berry with the iPhone, or HP with the iPad, or Diamond Rio/Creative with MP3 players. It's called progress, eventually some will make something better. Steve Jobs was only pissed because Android stole a page from his playbook, not the actual device....Boo-F'ing-hoo.

I can say to a certain effect, I'm kinda glad he's gone. not happy he suffered and died. just glad it's the end of his era. Just the last few years listening to all his constant crybaby blathering about Flash, Android and all the personal vendetta lawsuits against companies that are just simply making better products than Apple, just got to be pathetic. He should have retired a long time ago. Lived out his last few years enjoying his success and died in peace instead of spending his last few years as an angry, hate filled, sour puss.
