Hi everyone,
I upgraded from DVD Shrink 2.3 to the latest version, 3.1. This eliminated my problem of getting a "cyclic redundancy check" error, but created a new problem:

In DVD Shrink 2.3, burning a DVD took only 30 minutes, but in 3.1, it takes 6 hours, 30 minutes for the same exact DVD.

Why is it going so slow? Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Jen

Thanks again,
Jen

JenOU,

You could have just replied in this thread.

Anyhow, I'm glad you got rid of the crc error. As jim_dandy suggested, make sure your ide settings are set to DMA.

could you post your system specs? What burner do you have?

Hi all,
Thank you for the links...
I don't know where Device Manager is, so I couldn't find my system specs. The best I got was from Control Panel > System:

Dell Inspiron 5150
Intel(R) CPU 3.06 GHz
1.59 GHz
512 MB of RAM

I was also weary to use the instructions in the first link (uninstalling the secondary ide channel), because I didn't want to uninstall something my computer depended on & be at a loss.

Can someone let me know where to find my specs?

Thanks,
Jen

Yea, like jim said "don't worry". Upon reboot XP will reinstall em.

Also are you using an internal burner or an external burner?

I checked Device Manager and had a look at my Primary/Secondary Channels. The primary is set to: DMA if available. Should I still follow Brian's instructions--"Start/Settings/control panel/system/hardware/device manager/ ide ata/atapi controllers. Select Secondary Ide Channel, by right clicking, then hit Uninstall. Re-boot your machine and with a bit of luck it will re-set to ULTRA DMA?"

Also... I tried opening Will & Grace: S2, D3 on DVD Shrink 3.1, and it also encountered a cyclic redundancy check. Now what do I do???

You said your primary ide is set to DMA ... What about your secondary channel? If it's set to PIO, and won't change to DMA ... Yes, uninstall the secondary ide channel, and reboot.

CRC ... dirty or scratched disc. Have you tried giving the disc a good cleaning? Is it the original? Have you tried using DVD Decrypter to rip?

The discs are actually brand new... no scratches, fingerprints, dust, or dirt. I guess I'll give a thorough cleaning anyway, in case there are tiny particles getting in the way.
