Microsoft drops price of Windows 8 upgrade in UK

article published on 30 August, 2012

Microsoft has dropped the price for a Windows 8 Pro upgrade, from the previously stated £39.99 to £24.99 in the UK. The original statement, with the higher price, upset Windows fans in the nation, who would have been paying much more than their U.S. counterparts, who get the upgrade for $40 USD. Microsoft says the original price was a mis-communication between the company and its press agency. ... [ read the full article ]

Having relocated to Philippines, no mention of availability or prices here. Then they wonder why the proliferation of piracy here in Asia, but as most users here only earn $10 a month, how can they afford US prices??? A pirate copy costs only $1 in the local markets.

Hmm.

Maybe already publicised here, haven't seen, but wonder what the price will be here in good ol' Oztralia.
We're sometimes called the "Lucky Country" here, but not when it comes down to prices of the same items available overseas.

Rip off, by major companies is the name of the game here!

I agree fully, Oz is left way behind when it comes to price. If the product can be sold in the US for US$40.00 then the asking price here should be around AU$40.00, that's being generous considering current exchange rates. The retailers will of course double it and blame freight.

Or they will say its the charge levied so that you get a warranty. That's their excuse for charging double in the UK.

£24 is not double $40 US, today at current exchange rates $40 is £25.21.

I probably won't move from Win 7 to 8 but at that sort of price I am more tempted than put off.
So long as I hear the conversion is easy & fault-free.
