I had a movie on .avi format. I used cucusoft video converter and Ifo edit to convert the movie to dvd pal format...this seemed to go ok no error messages. BUT when i tried to burn the converted files (following the instructions given in the cutusoft help guide) I got a error message 6 minutes or so into the burn process. Im a novice to this whole conceptg of converting and burning files, this is my first attempt I hope someone can point out what i have done wrong from the log below. Any help greatly appreciated. torrok

The next thing u need to do is edit out your Nero registration code. The edit button is the pencil and paper icon on the orange bar, just above your post...

I refreshed and it vanished like magic, LOL.
Its going to take a few mintes for me to go over the post but the first thing I noticed was this:
Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : TRUE
Allow more than 255 characters in path : TRUE
I always uncheck those.
Try unchecking those and then do a simulated burn and post the log from that. Right now it looks like your burner is not seeing the media when the write portion is beginning:
Unspecified target error
I'll look this log over some more and see if I can find anything else.
Edit: This looks odd too:
Media Specific [16..63]:
00 00 01 52 49 43 4F 48 - 4A 50 4E 57 31 31 01 39 ...RICOHJPNW11.9

6A 02 28 22 12 10 E0 00 - F0 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 j.("............
Those numbers are usually all zeros. This is data in the burst cutting area of the blank disc. Have you burned something on to this disc? All the blank media I use usually says "Data in Burst Cutting Area does not exsist".

It's a re-writable and has been used before. Did you do a full erase?
Drag to Disc, InCD and other packet writing software often causes mysterious burning problems. Disable or uninstall.
Nero and Roxio don't get along together for many people. Most choose Nero and get rid of Roxio.
Looking around the internet I see that unspecified target errors seem to be more often in laptop computer's so it may be heat related. I saw some claims that either letting the computer cool off or getting a laptop cooler solved this problem.

Yes i did a full erase. I have now uninstalled roxio from my pc. If i find out why im getting this message about the files not being `reallocated` (whatever that means??) i`ll leave the laptop to cool then try burning again.

Well some burners aren't supported by Nero for doing simulations so that may be the problem as far as the greyed out sim box goes. I don't think you can erase stuff from the burst cutting area but give it a try...
You may want to try a different disc.
I sure don't want you to compound problems by trying to many things at once. That failiure to reallocate files may have been caused by selecting multiple recorders for the simulation, just guessing though. Nero could get confused when trying to send the files to non-exsistant recorders... possibly.
Veblin was right on about the Roxio, this may have been the cause of the original problem.

Nero has a disc info button avalible after you select the burn icon. You may want to take a look at that before proceeding with the burn. It will tell you if the disc is empty.
I tried a couple of simulated burns and was not able to make anything fail by checking the pathdepth and allow characters boxes. It did give me a warning that the disc may be unreadable under DOS/Windows 3.1X and then suggested that I uncheck the boxes.

fasfrank and verblin just wanted to update you both and thank you for the advise. I succefully burned my converted AVI files onto the dvd-rw disc on a PAL format. Dont know what i did differently whether it was allowing the laptop to cool down before burning or whether removing Roxio drag to disc did the trick bottom line is today i had a succesful burn....Thanks guys. I included the succesful log details below, maybe you guys can see from it what contibuted to the success this time around. Bear in mind this is the first time ever i have burned anything....also first time ever i have converted files of any sort. Hopefully it wont be the last! Thanks again for your help.

Good for you torrok,
It is nice to see a successful bun log posted! I sure hope you can come back and help someone else or if you have questions we will be more than happy to answer them.
I think it was the Roxio causing the problems, Hopwever I have never seen this before:

I have no clue as to what the `modification` message is in the log either Frank. I converted and burned the files based soley on the Help facility that came with Cutusoft Video Converter. I just followed the instructions, the technical details on how i actually achieved the desired result are way beyond this guy lol. Tell you what though, i have been reading through the forums here since i registered and the information that can be found just from reading the questions and answers is first class. I`ll be stopping by every day to read and you can bet money i`ll be posting again with some quiery or other, and maybe chipping in if i read where someone has encountered a similar problem to myself. Thanks again for your help.
PS. I just had a thought, dont know if this could result in the `modification` message. When i tried the simulated burn and got the message about `re allocation` I decided to delete the the contents of my VIDEO_TS file (incase i had screwed up that part of the process in some way) and go back a stage to where it says in the Cutusoft help section to use Ifo Edit " to generate the DVD structure(vob and ifo files) " I generated the files again and went from there. Thats when i got the successful burn. Maybe thats why the `modification` message? Just thought id add this info incase it helps anyone in future. torrok

I'm having something of a similar problem. Nero Ultra was burning absolutely fine. Last night, however, it stopped. I've got two error logs to show, and no idea what's wrong. I had roxio on here, but that wasn't causing any problems. I removed it (or so I thought) before installing the updated InCD. Nero still burnt after doing that, though, so I don't know what the problem is now.

Thanks for that. No idea why its turning DMA off on one of the drives. It's set to auto detect. I'll uninstall InCD now and see if that helps, although it managed to burn no problem with that there until last night. :(
I've tried turning DMA back on, but it's not having it. I wonder if it's got something to do with WinXP SP2, as I installed that recently.

You may have to check in your BIOS Setup and make sure that DMA is enabled for that and all device's. The link above also explains how if a device gets a certain number of errors DMA will be disabled. You should then right click on the drive in Device Manager and uninstall it and reboot. If you still can't get DMA you should right click on the IDE channel it is on and uninstall the IDE channel and reboot.

Your Primary Master is your Main HDD. I beleive it is the first one listed. You can find all this in the Device Manager. Yes you can uninstall drives and IDE channels and many other things because after you reboot Windows it will reinstall those devices for you. In some cases you have to reboot twice.
If Windows really needs it to operate it will put it back and will often fix whatever problem that device was having.

Thanks. Any idea what sort of errors would have made it switch off? By the look of it, the drive that's not on DMA is my secondary 120GB hdd, where all my avi files are. I have done a lot of stuff recently, and really need to defrag, (as I had to clear 25GBs of space on my main drive the other day). I also installed Winxp SP2 and updated Nero. Everything was fine until last night. Weird...
Alrighty....uninstalled the drive...didn't sort it. uninstalled the IDE controller...didn't work. Checked BIOS and discovered my secondary drive wasn't showing at all (even though I could access it through windows). So, turned that on to automatic detection and now it works. Testing to see if Nero works on a burn now, but don't hold out much hope. Still no idea why BIOS switched to OFF.

I can't really make out anything else from those NeroVision Log's. It would be more helpful if you were to try burning your project with Nero Burning Rom. Then you will get a log like what torrok had above. I find those much easier to look at and find the problem because they give more information.
