I have been using DVD Shrink for sometime now with no problems, until now. Whenever I try to backup a DVD with Shrink I am getting the same error. "DVDShrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Copy protection error. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." I am using Shrink v 3.1.7.6 and Nero to burn. This error happens when I hit the backup button and Shrink starts to encode. I haven't made any changes to my system, no new hardware or software. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling DVDShrink and still not getting the same error. Please help. Thank you.

dvd4life....I have the same issue and haven't been able to find an answer in the forum and it would appear that no one has responded to your question. Did you find a reason &/or a solution? If so could you let me know.....Or anyone else that can help us out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you get a "Copy Protection Error" when using DVD Shrink, please try some or all of the following:

Try playing the DVD for a few seconds with your software player (WinDVD, PowerDVD, Etc...), pause it, then start the DVD Shrink process.

Try un-checking "Enable burning with Nero" in the "Edit >> Preferences >> File I/O" menu.
You will still be able to burn your backups with Nero manually as usual.

Try ripping the DVD to the hard disk drive first with DVD Decrypter.

Try opening Nero before using DVD Shrink.

Try using region-free software like DVD43, AnyDVD or DVD RegionFree.

Well problem has been fixed. It turns out that my dvd drive was about to die. I have replaced it and since then have had no problems. Bolis, I hope that this isn't the same problem that you are having.(dying dvd burner). Veblin those are some good sugestions, I use DVD43 in the background just incase.

Glad your problem is solved..Veblin, you have been a great help and you write very clearly and thank you for that. Now I find myself with another problem. I did uncheck Enable burning with Nero. While I was at it I upgraded from Decrypter 3.2.1.0 to 3.2.3.0. I ran dycrypter with no problem except with this version it took much longer. Then instead of it going straight to decrypter to backup it says that the file is in my download file ready to backup. I open decrypter to write and when I browse for the file it won't take it as a recognized file. it is video_TS. Now what happened and how can I fix it so it does it automatically like it did before. I would just leave it overnight and it would do its thing without my intervention. Help! (I hate to be such a newbie but I'm learning!) I would greatly appreciate your reply.

Veblin, thank you for your speedy reply. I did what you suggested and I got the following message...
"DVD Shrink encountered an error & cannot continue. The specified folder is invalid. The system cannot find the path specified" So since I couldn't get it to work I just deleted everything and started from scratch. I will make sure to follow your directions that you sent me and see if it all goes well this time. I do have a seperate question for you though, Do I always have to run thru decrypter first? Even if it doesn't say it has RC Protection? and also I have noticed that in some of the dvd's I have backed up when I play them in my DVD player all goes along well and then towards the end of the movie it will skip a little or worse than that it will pause and won't go forward again. Why does that happen? Thanks for all.
