Hi all.
I've been useing dvd x copy xpress. I am learning how to use and appreciating some of the benefits of dvd shrink. I was wondering if it is recomended that I follow the same blacklist precautions that 321 studios recomends, such as steps under msconfig and shuting down anti-virus and firewall software. Thanks in advance, any input will be appreciated.

I do none of that when using shrink. 321 is not one of my choices for video application. To my knowledge they are out of business.(well, soon anyway)
BTW, welcome to AD!

Thanks, the only thing I don't like about shrink is that it takes quite a bit longer than dvd x copy xpress.

I like menus and some extras, so I use Nero's recode 2, Pinnacle's InstantCopy 8 and Intervideo's DVDCopy 2.All 3 have excellent quality. DVDcopy 2 takes about 25 minutes.

.
When one has to work for living one finds out that waiting 12 minutes (the difference between the two for me) is more than worth the $100.00 PLUS (USD) it costs for DVD XCopy -

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but to rip (useing dvd decryptor), compress and deep anylize (useing dvd shrink), and burn (useing nero 6) it takes about 2 hours for a 2 hour movie. I can copy the same movie w/ dvdxcopy xpress in about 45 min. I can't tell any difference in the quality although there aren't any menu's or extra's w/ the xpress. Am I doing something wrong w/ the shrink? I've read several guides on the shrink and am following one of them word for word (DVDR-Digest.com). I am learning and open to suggestions.

No need to rip with DVD Decrypter, do it with DVD Shrink. Yes, I read that guide ? whoever wrote it never qualified himself nor does that guide agree with the vast, yea, I say the vast number of guides saying rip with DVD Shrink ? why, because it can !
Question, why not rip your movie with Decrypter before using Xcopy ?
Many DVD's aren't big enough to warrant deep analysis. Reading the guides will teach you that you use that only when necessary.
Re-Author to backup movie only -
Burn with either Nero OR DVD Decrypter. Average time: :32min.
DVD-XCopy, same DVD "The Prowler," 25 min.
Cheers,
Pete

Lets see, the dvdxcopy xpress came w/ the lite-on dvdrw which I bought for $69.95. I live on social security and can't work anymore due to a head injury I had 3 years ago leaving me paralyzed on my left side (hemiplegic) and lastly my dad is dead. What did I do to get under your collar? I thought this forum was for info and to help people not to critisize and down grade people. Sorry if I said or did something wrong. I will use other forums in the future for help or info. I read this forum a lot and used to respect your knowledge and input Pete thanks a lot for straightening me out.

Thanks and sorry I guess you hit a nerve. I'm just trying to learn all I can about these different softwares ya know pro's and con's of each and which ones people prefer. Not much I can do besides learn, play on my puter and watch movies. If you don't mind me asking is it necessary to perform deep analysis if the movie is less than 120 min long and I'm not re-authoring. Will it still improve the quality and worth the extra time. Once again sorry for the hasty reply. Sounds like you know where I'm coming from.

Hey Mort, When you 1st open shrink and click on "open disc" it will do a 30sec or so analyzation. When you look to the right, if you see 100%, then there is no need to compress or re-author. If it does need compression then I still wouldn't use Deep analysis until you hit about 80-85%.
The new shrink supposedly (v3.2)is a whole lot better with the deep analysis on 20% and more compression. Be prepared to wait tho, it will take a couple of hours, well worth it if it greatly improves video quality.
The "new" shrink is due out this week. Good luck and hope you stay with us....

People always want to rap 321's products, when in fact they usually do produce better video results than Shrink. Start to finish with no other programs needed for the final burn either.

Pinnacle's InstantCopy 8 is 25.00. It's quality is better(my opinion only)than 321's DVD x Copy which costs 100.00 (or more).
You can compress, re-author, and burn with IC 8. Decrypter can rip(use file mode) for ya, it's free. Pinnacle is still in business.
The new shrink is supposed to have a huge quality difference if you use "deep analysis". It's free and you can use decrypter(free) to burn.
Hmmmm........

He already owns DVD X Copy.
@ Mort81
As far as shutting down things in msconfig I've never done such a thing with the stuff/software I use. And usually always got a bittorrent client running in the backround.

Hey mystic, I was referring to the generalized statement-"People always want to rap 321's products, when in fact they usually do produce better video results than Shrink. Start to finish with no other programs needed for the final burn either."
"people", not mort. I totally agree that in his case there is no need unless he wishes to do so. Stay with what keeps ya happy.
i do think the new shrink should be checked out, I think there will be a lot of surprised "people" out there.
See ya!

Mort81,
Quote: I'm just trying to learn all I can about these different softwares ya know pro's and con's of each and which ones people prefer
That?s no way to do it -
May I suggest trying the free stuff first, buying what you can afford later - there are dozens of flavors of ice cream because everyone has different tastes. The reason there are so many proggys is that, as they say, "Beauty is in the eye -
Try this guide first (Bottom of the page) -
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/79846
Do a DVD or 2 then we'll add Nero (30-day trial, no money necessary). Then we'll steer you to other trial stuff -
When something strikes your fancy - then worry about buying it -
It doesn't make sense to me to buy stuff other pple like unless they all agree - that's rare around here - too many variables - Start with free, it costs less :)
I started out with DVD XCopy when that was all they had - I've looked around and have a rather large collection, different proggys have different strengths -
You've got time, relax and learn, it's a great way to spend time and have fun :P)
As far as The "New" DVD Shrink goes,
There's only a very "Special Group" of pple who have it. They are the only experts on Shrink in this forum.
Us low lifes will listen to them expound on it, telling us how soon it will be out - 2 weeks ago it was "Next week" -
It's OK, Me, I'm too stupid to use it aren't I brobear ?
Glad I never learned about it -
"P"
