DVD Shrink Lockup problem "checking disks"

I can't seem to get DVD Shrink to complete the task without it locking up at the end, when checking disks.
I ven have to reboot the machine (XP) to clear the dialogue box. However the files are all there in DVDTEMP folder, ,and I can still burn using DVDXcopy Platinum RF. Any suggestions? Also on big DVD TV shows like Frasier I get pixellation using eitehr dvdxcopy or dvd shrink to compress.

That's cutting it a lil too close. You might want to try and free 2-4GB's and try again.

How big is the tv? You could try cutting out any extra, if any. And what brand of media are you using?

Sorry, I wasn't clear on that, I get the same results with 16gb free. When I said big TV shows, I meant large content DVD's, the TV series DVD's, they put 5- 6 episodes on one DVD. The TV is only 68cm.
I use various disks, including Verbatim.
there isn't really much extra content to cut out.
I would use two disks to backup these DVD's if I knew how while still retaining the menus with the titles.
Regular movie backups I do with DVDXcopy Platinum are perfect, but they are usually a little smaller, hence less compression. It seems to highly compress the extras which are quite poor quality but I don't worry about them anyway. I haven't been able to use the split option in DVDXcopy wiht any success, i can't get it to work proerly at all. By the way, I don't know why many people in these forums "bag" DVDXcopy, I think it is a fantastic programme for doing straight movie backups and retaining the menus etc. It really is only a couple of clicks and messing around.

nosmarbad, you could try making two backups using DVD Shrink.
One where some episodes are compressed to "Still Pictures" and have their audio/subpicture streams removed, another where the other episodes are compressed to" Still Pictures" and have their audio/subpicture streams removed.
That would enable you to keep the menus on both discs and get much better quality. ;)

Are you using deep analysis when using Shrink?

If using only one drive:
1) Insert disk, check all titles, uncheck use compression
2) Will take you to the split disc screen. Manually select where you want to split(get each disc as even as possible)
3) It will read and burn your first disc, when it's done burning the first disc, you'll need to put the source back in and it will read the source a second time. Then put your second blank in to be burned.

Flip218, I have two drives, but trying to do a split with dvd xcopy Platinum i have had no success with the 2nd disk. I split the disk, the first disk was fine, but the 2nd disk ended up with only one episode instead of 3, and no menu. The no menu on the 2nd disk would have been ok, but it didn't burn the episodes I left off the first disk. I have tried that split function with other dvd's as well and had some horrific results, I would be interested in hearing from someone who has used it successfully. I was reading in one of these forums a while ago that the split function never works properly.

Well if you have two drives that's better. XCopy will read and burn the first disc, make sure you leave the source in a dvd-rom, XCopy will read the source disc a second time, then it will prompt you to insert the second disc ... then burn.

Ok, I read the threads, nothing there I haven't been doing. Previously I tried manual splitting but as i said, it didn't burn the 2nd disk properly. I don't understand what the cell numbers are.
I will give the splitting another try.

From memory yes, coz it coped part of 2nd disk.
However, when I was going to try again now, i noticed this dvd is only 6.32gb, which is only an average length. I don't understand why movies longer than this are no problem, but i also seem to have trouble with TV Show programmes. Mostly the backup copy is ok, it just pixellates partly on faces at varying points in the show.
Could it be that dvdxcopy platinum just has trouble copying TV shows? Is there something different about them by an chance? A while ago I coped an English TV programme called "Linda Green" which kept freezing after a few seconds. The original disk was brand new and played fine. I tried several attempts at copying with dvdxcopy platinum with the same result each time. Makes me wonder if there is something unique about TV shows.

What are you using to play your burned dvd's? Your pc or a standalone player(and what brand)?
And as far as splitting with XCopy, be positive the source disc is being read twice.

ok tried again.
This tme i split, read twice and prompted for two disks to burn, all looked ok, went thru, no errors, but when I play the disks all I get is the 321 sign on screen. Usually I get at least the first disk, this time, got neither, sign on screen only.
i am using a pc 2.4ghz, winxp pro sp1, Hp dc3000 burner, external thru usb2 port, pioneer dvd rom to read disks. But you asked the specs before which I did post.

Well at least your using RW's :-)
And I didn't ask for your specs again, I asked what are you using to play your burned dvd's? Are you playing them on your pc? Or a standalone dvd player(and what brand)?
Also, your probably the sixth person or so I've seen have problems with XCopy and an external burner. I know one solved his by going back to usb 1.1

Ok, sorry, I play them on a top of line SONY dvd player and have a cheaper AKAI too, same resluts on both. Have burnt over 100 disks with xcopy, no problems with movies at all, as I said, so I am a big fan of the software. Doubt if the splitting would be due to the burner. The HP has an inbuilt analogue to digital converter enabling transfers from VHS, BETA, etc to DVD. USB 1.1 isn't fast enough for this burner to work at all. I can't seem to get dvdshrink to get to the burn stage at all.

Have you tried burning with DVD Decrypter? When using Shrink, instead of burning to your drive or saving to your hard disk, you'll have to create an ISO image.

Actually DVD Shrink was the original topic!!
I mentioned that again as I wasn't able to burn with it, I had tried it as an alternative. I used Shrink to save to hard disk and do the compression, but still got the pixellation. Decrypter won't compress will it?

No Decrypter won't compress, but it will rip and burn. Shrink will rip and compress. I mentioned Shrink cause you said you can't get Shrink to burn.
