Windows Blue will include boot to desktop option

According to the Verge, the upcoming Windows Blue update (Windows 8.1) will include the option to boot to desktop, bypassing the current "Modern" UI.
The boot option will send users directly to the traditional desktop they've been accustomed to, skipping over the Modern UI which includes tiles that are better suited to touchscreen environments.

Windows 8 is complete crap. I was actually one of the few that liked Vista but this is just a complete fail. What idiot came up with the idea of nixing the Start button?? The whole interface adds about 10-20 seconds per task and that really adds up if you think of all the people using it for 1 day. This is a total letdown by Microsoft and it shows with their sales figures. They are really going to have to pull a hail mary to save this one, but I doubt it.....on to Windows 9

The modern UI is still less then half the problem? The app store model introduced adds more fail than just the UI. As a developer why must i be forced to share 30% of my revenue to MS? I could understand 2% or 3%, then I think most people could live with. Windows 8 fails in my mind because the change takes a HUGE bite out of anything I would desire to build or release that uses the modern interface, as much of a piece of crap it really is.

As an MS.Net developer it doesnt tick me off as much as I expected though the Start button replacement does cause some frustration because the amount of mouse navigation on a non touch screen PC is huge.

I mean, that's how you articulate the problem...
"I hate the start screen." or "Where's my start button?"
But the actual problem is neither of those. It's the way you can only run full screen or docked to the side. It's the full screen configuration screens. It's the entire UI, not just the stupid start screen.
If the start screen was the only issue I wouldn't care.

Well I think we can all agree MS keeps with tradition that you don't want every other version of the OS. Unfortunately for me, I believe the path taken will remain and not go back to the older way, even as much as all of us might like it to. My reasoning is it seems MS is trying to develop one single OS and/or operating environment that works seamlessly and consistently across all devices. A nice goal that I think is unobtainable, or as i'd say "When you try to become all things to everyone, you quickly become nothing for everyone." MS is demonstrating this very well.

And ThePastor you would be very surprised by how much that extra navigating you have to do really affects you. That extra 10-20 seconds made me completely dump the OS. It's basically Windows 7 with a tiled start screen, so with that little magic button I would have kept it. I don't use those other features you guys are discussing so it really was just the aggravation

And ThePastor you would be very surprised by how much that extra navigating you have to do really affects you. That extra 10-20 seconds made me completely dump the OS. It's basically Windows 7 with a tiled start screen, so with that little magic button I would have kept it. I don't use those other features you guys are discussing so it really was just the aggravation
You weren't intelligent enough to download one of the many FREE programs (like Classic Shell) that bring back the Start Button and Start Menu to Windows 8?

People have personal preferences, since they liked Vista that is his choice, i personally hated it too, while know many that did like it. Just seems rather rude, arrogant and narrow minded to judge others for what they say they like or dislike. It seems hard to take anything you say hearme0 as something meaningful and objective, well at least if they differ from you. Who put you in the seat of authority to say other people can't like or dislike something you don't. So self centered.

Personally, I really like Windows 8. I use the windows key to go from regular desktop to the apps desktop. I just don't see what the gripe is. I didn't have a problem with Vista, either. But, I do like things that are different and techy, too.

I might suggest you're too kind :) Assuming these guys have a brain to use, or at least one that can engage in a meaningful articulated position. Before being a developer I did tech support for developers. I found the people that knew the least in support to cover over the fact they didn't know anything would argue in a manor exactly as these clueless idiots do.

I have to admit. Dissing Vista is not that uncommon. I can't say I've ever liked it. Just the other day I was using my brother's desktop and was wondering what was wrong with it.... checked the OS... yep, it's Fista. Slow as a wet weekend.

I think the appeal of Vista came with the look of it. You had to have a ridiculously fast computer to run it but it sure looked good. That's why Windows 7 is so popular, it has the look of Vista and the speed of XP.
