According to Sony UK, the upcoming PlayStation 4 launch does not mean the company is dropping the price of the PS3. UK Managing Director Fergal Gara says the aging console will not get a price cut following the holiday launch of the PS4. "There's no plans as yet," Gara says. Not surprised considering that the PS3 graphics/playability are exactly the same as the new PS4. Only "sharing" is new and no one cares about that.

I thought PS3 was a risc/cell processor, where PS4 is more of a main stream one? I exactly forgot which one though.

Both xboxone and ps4 are pc's inside so thats why they are cheaper.
There was a lot more R&D involved for the PS3 so thats why the costs were so high.
