Hey everyone. i've been using DVD Shrink to get most of my dvds but for the hairy ones i usually use decrypter. I'm trying to burn Punch drunk love, and i'm getting a cyclic redundancy error with shrink and and i/o error with dvd decrypter. DVD doesn't look too scratched up or anything. I also downloaded dvd43 in hopes that it would crack the movie for shrink, with no such luck. any ideas what i'm doing wrong? Burner is and HP 200j and i'm running windows XP. This happens occasionally with other movies. Any ideas?

shrink doesnt burn, but can use Nero or DVD Decrypter to burn. I learned this today, shrink only compresses files, its not a burner, so it wont work. I've been getting erros for DVD Decrypter also, so i cant help you there.

You probably have a bad source DVD. D/L DVD InfoPro and do a check for read errors. The icon for this is near the top.

Hey guys, decrypter can only burn ISO files, what files are you using in shrink when you choose decrypter as your destination burner?
When you choose decrypter in backup target, make sure you choose ISO files.

Hi, thanks for responsing so quickly, i appreciate it. I try and rip the files with decrypter in file mode. When i can't get the movies to rip with shrink i try decrypter instead, but there is no information carried over from shrink to decrypter. Essentially i use them as stand alone programs, and i use the files decrypter makes to burn the movies with shrink. I don't know if this is even what you were looking for, but hopefully this answers the question bigorange. Doc, thanks for your post as well, i got that program, and i ended up finding a bunch of errors. Is this to say that there is somethign fundamentally wrong with the dvd, or this program just can't get past the same problems that shrink and decrypter have. Also, if it is the dvd itself, is this something would would be specific to this particular copy i have, or all the Punch Drunk Love DVDs put out by the studio?

Let's start getting some more info from you. We need for you to answer these questions to be able to help.
Shrink doesn't have a burner. It only has a settings to use DVD Decrypter or Nero. So, what are you burning with?
I don't know what errors you found with DVD InfoPro. You will have to be specific to get a specific answer. What errors did you find?
No, I'm sure not all the Punch Drunk Love DVD's put out are bad. It is common to get DVD's that have read errors. Did DVD InfoPro tell you there were read errors?

Doc, sorry for any ambiguity. I use Nero to burn once my shrink has ripped my dvds. It does all the work and spits out the dvd once it's ripped, then i put in a blank and it uses Nero and goes from there. I got literally about a thousand errors at about 53% through reading the movie with DVDinfopro. For the sake of brevity i won't paste them all, but here are some. The errors come up in the read errors section in the bottom right portion of the program screen.
Drive - HP DVD WRITER 200J
Media ID Code -
Media Type - DVD-ROM
Read Error list
1. Error - LBA = 001a450ch
2. Error - LBA = 001a450dh
3. Error - LBA = 001a450eh
4. Error - LBA = 001a4546h
5. Error - LBA = 001a4547h
6. Error - LBA = 001a4548h
7. Error - LBA = 001a4549h
8. Error - LBA = 001a45f9h
9. Error - LBA = 001a45fah
10. Error - LBA = 001a45fbh
11. Error - LBA = 001a4634h
12. Error - LBA = 001a4635h
13. Error - LBA = 001a4636h
14. Error - LBA = 001a4670h
15. Error - LBA = 001a4671h
16. Error - LBA = 001a4672h
17. Error - LBA = 001a46abh
18. Error - LBA = 001a46ach
19. Error - LBA = 001a46adh
20. Error - LBA = 001a46e6h
This is all it gives me. There are too many to even finish the scan.

silvav,
1-you can rip, edit and/or compress in shrink, then burn with Nero by enabling Nero to burn in edit>preferences>fileI/O>enable Nero.
2-You can rip with shrink, edit and/or compress in shrink, disable Nero and choose decrypter in your backup option using ISO files.
3- You can rip with decrypter in file mode(or ISO) edit and/or compress in shrink and again, choose decrypter or Nero to burn.
Is that what you've been doing? If not, explain please.

Good job!!! Bad DVD. These errors are for the source DVD, right?
These are all the same kind of read errors. Nothing is wrong with your system. So, take this one back for a refund, and get another one.
EDIT: It occurred to me that this is a used DVD that can't be returned. Let me suggest you try a small amount of liquid -type furniture polish to clean and fill in the small scratches. If this doesn't work, you will need a buffing tool.

Ummm. Bigorange, do the servers seem a little slow to you today? They do to me. BTW, dark_in slipped in an irrelevant comment that sort of derailed the fix process here.

Thanks a lot for the help doc. Just one last quick question for my own edification. When this problem happens which is does from time to time, is it possible that the dvd will not have errors on dvdinfopro? If so, is there anything else i should be doing. Also, to confirm dark in, that's exactly what i do, rip the files using decrypter in file mode and then burn them in shrink with Nero box checked off. Thanks again guys, i appreciate it.

LOL, they have been bad for the last 2 days for me doc. I typed my answer almost immediately and took about 7 or 8 tries with about a 60 minute wait total before it went thru. Kept getting server error message. Then I saw your little tete a tete. Same with you?

@silvav...I think dark_in was referring to burning with Decrypter, but i may be mistaken. I haven't used InfoPro enough to have caught it making errors, but a lot of people use it. One tool I like to use is SmartRipper. If you choose the Backup tab, and then start, it will graphically display any read errors. I have never had a bad burn when it read all the files. The SmartRipper files can then be loaded into Shrink.
@Big-O...yeah. It was even a little embarrassing yesterday. I had answered a post from Sophocles, and then a visitor's question got squeezed in between because of the time stamp, and it looked like I had completely ignored him and his question.
