I've been using DVD shrink with good results. But I have a couple movies I want to back up 100%, keeping all the extras. I know it won't all fit on one DVD. With DVD shrink, can I burn the movie on to two DVDs?

(not sure of the terminology, but would end up with two disks for my backup collection)

thanks, Steve

hi stevelk11

There's many ways to do it, with many different softwares, most of them not free.If you dont care about menu functions.Heres a free and easy way to do it:http://www.dvdshrink.info/splitting-v2-3.php

this is an outdated version of shrink but it'll work the same way.

good luck and welcome to the forum
jim

Starting with DVD Shrink 3.2 there's a new compression level called Still Image. It replaces the video with a single still image and saves a lot of space. Depending on the size of the movie (which would have to be all on the same disc if you want to use this method) and whatever menus you want on the disc containing the movie, you could simply do 2 backups, setting the titles and menus that are on a different disc to Still Image and keeping the rest uncompressed.

Since that probably sounds a little complicated I'll give you an example. Let's say I want to back up a disc where the movie and all the menus that relate directly to that movie (title menu, scene selections, language selection, etc,...) will be on 1 disc and the extras and all appropriate menus will be on another. I'd set all the menus that don't relate directly to the movie and all extras to Still Image. Then I'd click the backup button and save that disc. To get the second disc I'd then set the main movie to Still Image and then set the extras, as well as all menus for the extras (title menu, extras menu, etc,...) to Automatic and click the backup button again to get the second disc (saving it in a different folder of course).

There are other programs that can do similar things. Some are freeware and some will cost you a little. VobBlanker and TitleSetBlanker can blank titles, but not menus, and both are free. DVD Stripper can blank titles and menus, as well as removing menu buttons, and it's free as well. The downside to Stripper is that it relies on IFOEdit to do most of the actual work, and IFOEdit doesn't always do things exactly right, so some things just can't be removed if you want the DVD to play. DVD Remake can blank titles or menus, but it costs $25. DVD Remake Pro can do all of that plus allowing you to edit menus and many other parts of the DVD's structure, but it costs $45. The advantage to either version of Remake is the excellent support and bugfixes. That's really what you're paying for more than anything else.

Personally, I'd recommend seeing if you can do what you want with just Shrink. You can always try other programs later if Shrink isn't doing exactly what you want.
