Couple of quick questions. I use Shrink to copy the movie to my HD, then Shrink uses nero to copy to the dvd.
1.) In Shrink, what does the compression ratio mean? 2.) When I click backup in Shrink and try to change the burn speed in options, I only get a choice of 2x. How can I get higher speeds, since I have a NEC 2500 drive which is capable of 8x?
3.) What is the lowest compression ratio you would use to backup a movie in full backup or reauthor mode. For example, Pearl Harbor movie portion alone is 6+GB, so in reauthor mode I had to compress it (auto) about 80%. I just want to know what the lowest acceptable (for a 36 in or larger tv) percentage without noticable errors.
4.) What does unspecified audio/subtitles mean? I noticed that in BadBoysII I removed all subtitles including unspecified and when characters talk to each other in russian, there wasnt a subtitle for what they said... was there supposed to be one.

1) The compression ratio shows how much DVDshrink is compressing the video. So, if it says 80%... That means that the program has compressed your video by 20%.

2) Are you using 2x media? Have you updated the firmware of your DVD burner. Some firmware updates will let you burn slower speed media (say 2x) at higher speeds (like 4x).

3) Preferences differ. Just keep in mind that the quality of the video will drop the more that you compress it. I really try to never compress the main movie by more than a 70% compression ratio. Menus I usually compress at 60% or so. Extras I compress as much as shrink will let me. Of course, strip out all the subtitles and languages you never plan on needing... even before compressing to try to get the movie to fit on a blank DVD-R.

4) It means it's unspecified! LOL! (just joking)... If you want to know what an unspecified audio stream contains, play the video in shrink and right click on the movie while it's playing.. You should be able to jump around to different audio streams from there.
