Do these to software work the same? can you copy copyright protected dvds with shrink like you can with xcopy plat?

What else do you need for shrink to work? dvdclone?

Thanks,
md

DVD shrink 3.2 is far superior to the fickle xcopy
You are best prepared by having Nero installed before you use shrink. in the preferences section you can click burn with Nero as shrink itself cannot burn. You'll switch to shrink!

I've never had any problems with XCopy, but I can't say the same for others. Also if you don't have or want to buy Nero ($49), you can use DVD Decrypter with Shrink ... but you need a pc using NTFS file system.

I have been a long time user of XCopy and find it an excellent program. I find it useful and in many cases of equal or better quality than Shrink. Remember, we are talking freeware in comparison to a good retail program. The problem with XCopy has mostly been with software interference. It is less likely to work with some programs on the PC. Shrink is the more forgiving program in comparison to that problem.

Shrink is a good program and can not be beat as freeware. In fact it is comparable to or better than some retail products. However money can buy a better product. I am not doing a commercial, so just check around the forum.

Speed setting is automatic with XCopy. I have an older 4X, so can't say anything about 8X burns.

have tried dvdxcopy express& copy DVD from 321 studios- express cost 50.00 dollars @ walmart -did,nt work brought back to wally-world would not refund purchase price but told me that I could replace it wih ame program! which they did'nt have so they let me swap it for copy dvd which was 20.00 dollars and refunded me $30.00 copy dvd did not work either and walmart will not refund price once you open the software. I understand that computers are intricate and sometimes very individual devices so it may work on yours but not mine. that being said I downloaded DVD Shrink & DVD Decrypter for free and both work -every time they are a little more complicateed vs. dvdx copy but if you read the guides on the net they soon become easy to use so the extra effort is worth it in my book. plus you can't beat the price = free so try it you'll like it ! hope this helps bigtoxy69

I have had excellent luck with Platinum for a long time. Only fault is it won't record some Disney animation and that is a fault in the program. Feed another disc and all is well.

Anyone who is going to install 321 software should check out the 321 Problem Checklist posted here on the Forum. There are a number of programs to be avoided and steps to take care of the system on it.

Platinum ripper and RF versions both come with a guide and there were some on the net. One should read the user guide for XCopy if at all possible. It's in PDF format and takes Adobe Reader (free) to open it. If one is going to use DVD Shrink, they should at least go over a quick guide before attempting to use it.

I know people that have some success with it, but I personally limit my burn speed to either 2 or 4x (depending mostly on what mood I'm in :) ). I used to have a 2x burner back when I was using xcopy plat, but when I upgraded burners I started getting a lot of errors when writting to the disc. I then began using Nero and Shrink (after coming to this site for help!). The combination of those has worked great for me!

At this point in time it is difficult to get the better of the Platinum programs. Even without the ripper the RF version was better. The nag windows were gone, the browse function worked and there was less trouble from the Patin Couffin driver.

Another fault I found with the program was not recording some of the Disney movies. It had to be the program. New discs and other programs would record them. I still use the program quite a bit. Just use something else for the Disneys.

Had they included the ripper, the RF would have been the upgrade to improve the 4.0.3.8. It took care of the problems, but no ripper.

On burning 8X. Some of the members with 8X report no problems. Some people report problems at 2X. It has a lot to do with the system and the particular drive and even media. The best thing to do is try the higher setting. If it works good. You can always slow it down. The majority of people are burning at 4x. I'd say more because of the number of 4X burners than anything. Of the many backups I've made, I have never had to burn less than 4X. Since it's a 4X burner I'm not going any faster.
