what do you think fergus they can't make one v4.5 for the Starview but they can make v4.5 and v4.51 for the box.

also those firmwares are for the box only

Sometimes it will not work with laptop do you have access to a pc if so it would be better also you need a null modem cable it is like the 232 but a little different should say null modem on it where did you get the cable from

The RS232 I got with The Box which worked ok when uploading 4.0 using a pc.

I got the RS232(MALE)via USB Cable from ebay, and all I do is plug male and female together but sadly it didn't work!

JTAG GUIDE

Build the JTAG as below.

JTAG is in the corner of the PCB and is a 20pin connector (no pins, just pads) layed out in a 2 x 10 array.

Pin1 is the square pin.

Connections are as follows:

PIN9 = TMS
PIN11 = TCK
PIN13 = TDI
PIN15 = TDO
PIN19 = TRST

Ground is all even number pins.

VCC is the end of capacitor C40 nearest the processor.

The box must be powered up to be flashed (don't worry about the lack of display or picture)

Flashing with JKEYS
-------------------

Run JKEYS and Detect. Should come up as:

Device ID: 0x1D405041
Device: STi5518MVB-X

Choose the IRD model as 4900

Flash would be 29LV160
Start : 7FE00000
Bytes 20000

Go into flash programmer.

Erase chip first by clicking on Erase in the top right

Flash chip with a working TSOP image by clicking on the top-right Program button.

Flashing with S*YMax UP (Easier!)
--------------------------------

If you are having problems flashing with JKEYS you can also use S*YUP. This is much easier to use.

Click on 2mb (0x7FE00000)
Click Start
Click Erase
Click Write

Choose your flash image .. sit back and wait

Please can someone help me.
I have read this a number of times and still cannot understand where the "VCC" lead is connected. I know 1 end is connected to cap 40. Where is the other end connected. It is not mentioned on the simple jtag diagram.

Sorry I had to dash eaarlier on, I had visitors , I was just reading over the last pages of replies and to clarify any confusions lol ..

I didn't download the v4 for SV off the bottom links in Ryans post , but I did download the v4 for "The Box" on another thread Ryan posted to someone else . I doubled and tripled checked before updating my friends "The Box" that I had the right firmware. I will try find the original post and link :)

Sooo I have updated my friends "The Box" with V4 for "The Box" and not the Starv**w :-)
