I have Wii v3.0U with wiikey upgraded to 1.9g. I am running the update initiated when I put the game in and it's stalled right at the end of the update. It has been running for about 15 minutes - should I reboot my Wii or is it eventually going to finish?

No the Japanese version has the same protection as the North American version does. So you will need to update to the 1.9g update on the Wiikey.

but if it is the original and not a backup why would you need to update to mod chip? i thought back ups don't work without the update original should play fine.

has anyone actually tested an original version of the game on a clone wiikey system that is not updated to 1.9g. Problem is I have a clone that cannot be updated and if the protection is built in even in the real games how would that make sense legally. So im paying $50 for a real version of the game and I am unable to play it on my fully paid for system because of some modification that was done to it?

Yeap thats correct my mistake. My Brain is running slow today. if its an Original Japanese game disc then yes you can play it on a Japanese Wii.

But that does bring up a good point. I wonder if a USA Original version could play on a Japanese Wii since the Modchip would then kick in for region override.

Ok.. So, if i bought the original SMG, i dont need to update the wiikey to 1.9g right? And all duplication problem will be solved too right? Actually i tried burning the wiikey1.9g iso file to a DVD-R and DVD-RW(i wasted 2 DVD-R already) but my wii doesnt read the disc. i used Sonic DigitalMedia burner in my com to burn it as DATA FILE , or should i burn it as video file? If my update works, i will not waste much money to buy original SMG already. Please guide me.. thanks

Burn it with ImgBurn which you can get for free HERE.

If you have a Japanese Wii make sure your using the Wiikey Japanese update image to burn to disc.

The multiplayer mode is virtually nonexistent. It's good if you have a friend come over and instead of saying, "hey, check this game out!" and play by yourself and boring them to death (depending on the friend), you can hand them an extra wiimote and say, "here, help me get these star bits and jump higher." It's more of a social bonding tool rather then a full blown multiplayer. I don't think that it was such a good idea. More of a 2P selling point.

Its a imageburner, so do you mean we have to burn the iso as image? Anyway, i download it from wiikey.cn , and it has jap.iso, us.iso, pal.iso all zipped up. So i only need to burn the jap.iso right?

and, where can i get the "Wiikey Japanese update image"?

I burned the 1.9b update iso out and use it on my wii.. It works! however, during the flashing test process, it says there is connection problem.. How?

An ISO is an image file. So yes use ImgBurn and burn it. This isn't that complicated to figure out.

there are 3 ISO images in the download...

bootdisc.jap.iso
bootdisc.pal.iso
bootdisc.us.iso

You have a Japanese Wii so take a wild guess at what ISO file you need to burn.

Make sure all your soldering joints are done properly and the connection is strong. If this is a wire install you could have a defective wire. I have also read other threads that have said long wires can cause an issue as well.

The error message your getting is pretty much telling you the Wiikey is not installed properly. Which means theres a connection problem between the Wiikey and Wii board itself.

Make sure the soldering joints on the Wiikey/Wii are soldered properly.

If you did a quicksolder then make sure nothing is bridged and make sure the joints are properly connect to the correct spots.

If you did a wire install make sure the soldering joints between the Wiikey/Wii and wires are soldered properly. It also could be a defective wire and in some cases others say to long of a wire could cause an issue as well.

Oh.. sorry.. I bought the modded wii console rather than modding it myself. So i had no idea how the wii was inside. Dont dare me to open up the wii and check it out~ guess if this is the only way to update the wiikey, i got to ask the one i bought the console from to help out.. Thanks anyway~

Hello gents,

It looks like many of you have got SMG running fine on NTSC-U and PAL machines but I've not seen any NTSC-J users, like myself, having much luck.

I've updated my Wiikey successfully to 1.9g, I've let SMG update and the 001 error is no more. Sadly, it now just goes to immediate black screen and the Wiimote cuts off, lights out.

I'm trying to run an NTSC-U 'backup' until I obtain an NTSC-J version. Anybody advise that this may be the problem? That doesn't make much sense to me since I'm playing a variety of backed-up versions of oher games across the regions.

Incidentally, could any UK people here recommend a top-notch games importer? I work in China but I'm on extended vacation for a few months.

Thanks to those who can help.

I am pretty sure I have a wiikey clone which cannot be updated. I constantly get the check connection error and have tried everything on the major forums.

I have tried to run SMG from Prominent and get the illegal device 001 # message and have updated with the patch on it.
Question is I just preordered SMG NTSC US and was wondering if anyone could confirm if the original game would work on a unupdateable wii with a clone wiikey which has already updated with the patch from the SMG prominent release game.

I believe some stores have released the game early so was hoping someone could confirm.

I second this motion. I'm going to buy SMG original, have my Wii at 2.2u with Wiican and was wondering if I'd have any trouble.
Original SMG being same region as the console.

Anyone can confirm with me that NTSC-J Super Mario Galaxy can be played in Jap Wii Modded console without updating the Wiikey to 1.9g and can solve the duplicate channels problem?

Anybody happen to know of any adverse effects of running the 1.9g update on a Wii modded with something other than Wiikey? Mine was premodded in China some time back and I don't have the tool to open and see which chip I have. I guess I could call the local game/mod shop, but my "mod-chip Chinese" ability is a little weak.

gwaymond --

Some games, but not all, work on different region systems. Who knows why? A handful just show a black screen. According to the "Wii region patcher compatibility list" (search for it, I don't know if posting a link violates some kind of forum etiquette), the U.S. SMG just shows a black screen on a JAP console. They talk a lot about patched isos, but I find that the games they say don't work when patched also tend not to work on my modded console. I guess we'll have to suffer through the JAP SMG for now...

alright..so i read through everything and i still have a question:

i am using a NTSC U wii in the UK. am i able to update my wii via wifi to 3.1u? i am on 2.2u right now. i dont have wifi until tomorrow, so i was just wondering if - no matter where you are - the wii gets the right (ntsc) update.
also, does it matter what country i select in the options? atm its still on US.

secondly, i have wiikey 1.2 or 1.3 installed...so am i right in assuming that the order of updates (wiikey / wii) is irrelevant to the outcome?

thanks

d0ud0u --

I just ran the JAP SMG in my JAP modded Wii, and updated the firmware to 3.0J (or whatever). It un-partially-bricked my Wii (yay! finally!), but I still have the dual channels. I haven't run Wiikey 1.9g yet, in fact I can't get it to work. As I wrote above, my console may or may not be modded with a Wiikey.

Question to everyone:

Assuming I have a Wiikey inside, how do I update it to 1.9g? Just pop in the iso-cd and run it like I'd run a game? Or do I have to do some kind of fancy hit-reset-three-times maneuver to communicate with the modchip? I couldn't find any information about this at the Wiikey site...

Thanks

Oh, one more thing: I access the 1.9g cd, then get a black screen with white Japanese letters. They could be an error message, or they could be instructions to follow for the update. Since I don't read Japanese, can somebody tell me what I'm supposed to do once I've loaded the 1.9g cd?

Thanks again, I'll shut up now, I promise...
