OK, confirming that it worked first try.
Order of Ops:
Downloaded Wiikey 1.9g, flashed the wiikey
Updated US Wii to 3.1u
Downloaded ISO, burnt to a Verbatim 16x disc at 8x speed on my macbook pro using disk utility
Played

I was very happy that the mac's dvd burner worked! And that game is absolutely great fun, not very far in but I'm already liking it more than Sunshine, and the graphics are just jaw dropping!

Thanks for the help here!

Most likely irrelevant at this point but I had a successful update as well.

3.1U Wii
went from 1.9b to 1.9g
Inserted SMG ( it did not reconize disk untill I clicked the disc icon )
Game update occured
reset Wii
Now enjoying game and Wii still works perfectly fine.

Whats wrong?
I did this:
Updated my Wii via the internet - success
Installed 1.9g - success
Updated Wii via SMG Disk - succes
Tried to play SMG - "The Disk could not be read..."

Edit: *Note: I did get past the Warning screen where it tells you to put on the Wii Remote glove and strap, it gives me the error after this. Maybe it is just a burning problem?

btw, I have a NTSC-U console, how can I fix this?

EDIT 2: Nevermind, I got it to work by reburning it at 2x, I guess it was a burning problem. Yesssssssssss, thanks for all the info in this thread guys!! woot!

Note for all Pal Users.....

I just patched my SMG ISO with Brick Blocker and the game came up ok on the channels screen and then when I clicked on the disk channel it came up perfectly, with out asking for the update. Problem is when you click to start the game I just get a black screen, BUT, I am using Taiyo Yuden TY03 and not the prefered TY02's which work better and I have experenced this excat same problem with other games.

So I have ordered a batch of the correct TY02 and will have them for Monday and if they work the brilliant, if not then I guess its just waiting time on the PAL edition of the game, either way I will post the results.

I dont recoment doing the semi-brick with the non patched game and its update, it can only cause problems in the future.

That is normal when using WiiBrickBlocker nothing new. So it isn't a media issue. The reason it goes black is due to the Wii not having the update that is needed.

I tested both 1 with WiiBrickBlocker and 1 without.

I first tried playing the copy that was Ran through Wii brick Blocker and it did the same as you said above. it started and showed in Disc Channel but when starting the game it goes black and thats it.

I then placed the copy that I didn't use Wii brick blocker on and it updated the Wii and gave me the "unauthorized hardware error".

So I then placed the copy that i used WIiBrickBlocker on again and I got the "unauthorized hardware error" with the 1 this time that i used WiiBrickBlocker on.

I got my working too....Here what i had

NTSC Wii
3.1 Firmware
1.9b wiikey

Here are the steps i did:

1) Update my wii to 3.1U using the internet.
2) Insert Super Mario Galaxy (do the update and click start, should get an error message)
3) Put in 1.9g update and it update 2 things. (First it scans it, second one is the real one that update the wiikey)
4) After that done it should say "reboot Mario", so you take out the 1.9g update and put in Super Mario Galaxy.
5) After u click "A" button on gamecube control, Homer Simpson would say something like "You are all Nuts" and the will wii reboot.
6) After that ENJOY!!!

Thanks Wiikey Team for the Update!

How long should the SMG update take? The bar is displaying that it is almost finished, but it seems to have hanged. Not sure whether I should leave on the system until it finishes, or turn it off and try again. It has been updating for about 30 minutes.

It took me about approximately 15-20 to update to 3.1U.

Wondering if anyone has experienced this issue, and if anyone has gotten around it:

I updated to 1.9g, rebooted, put in SMG, the update starts, the bar gets to the end, and then a message pops up that says Wii Update Failed.

Anyone experienced this?

Wiinja Deluxe update steps for NTSC Wii

1) Burn Wiinja Update 3 using CloneCD (this update contains previous updates within it)
2) Burn Wiinja Update 4 using CloneCD (unknown if this contains previous updates within it...yet)
3) Turn on Wii & insert Wiinja Update 3 DVD Disc
4) Go to DISC CHANNEL , insert the upgrade disc and wait for REBOOT to Wii Menu (if the pin3 is soldered to RESET) or for DISC NOT RECOGNIZED (if pin3 is not soldered to RESET)
5) Remove Disc and Restart
6) Insert Wiinja Update 4 DVD Disc when at main screen
7) Go to DISC CHANNEL , insert the upgrade disc and wait for REBOOT to Wii Menu (if the pin3 is soldered to RESET) or for DISC NOT RECOGNIZED (if pin3 is not soldered to RESET)
8) Remove Disc and Restart
9) Manually do an internet Update for Wii Console itself to 3.1u
10) Insert GAME* and do update it asks to do
11) Play GAME*

Key = *You know what game

I myself am going to wait to play this one when it comes out...call me paranoid but I would rather make a backup of my original and not take the chance of Nintendo possibly tracking who has played the game prior to release. Although I am currently at step 9 & all ready to go, well almost ready ;).

Well then, after 12 hours, my SMG decided that it wanted to fail out on me. Yeah, so basically I updated my Wiikey to 1.9g, and this went off without a hitch... homer said his bit and everything. I restarted the system, and inserted SMG... and immediately went to launch the game. Unfortunately, the Wii demanded that I update via the disc. After confirming that it was safe to do so, I accepted the SMG update. Well, 12 hours later, the update had still not completed itself. There was no DVD drive action, so I ejected the disc. I got an immediate "failed update" memo on my t.v. and then tried to reset the Wii. After going into the Wii/GC channel again, nothing happens anymore. No more prompt for an update with SMG in the drive. Just a "can't read disc error" or whatever the heck Nintendo puts up when a disc can't be read.

So to recap, I HAVE updated to 1.9g beta for the Wiikey. I do have a burned copy of SMG, which failed to update my Wii, and does NOT show a preview in the channels. In other words, if I didn't know that the disc contained SMG, then you wouldn't be able to tell what it was. My system still plays backups, but SMG won't run for crap.

Oh, and I tried updating from 3.0U (which is what I'm at now, and was at through this whole process) to whatever the newest version is, and it failed. Not sure why, could have been a bad wireless connection... though with the crap that I have experienced today, I doubt this to be the case.

Any help? This crap is really starting to tick me off. I haven't done anything different from the directions posted on the site. The ONLY thing that I can imagine is that I somehow burned a bad copy of SMG... which is highly unlikely since I use Taiyo Yudens at 2x and have never had a problem before.

Did you pad the iso, with filechop.exe, before you burned it?

I thiink that you may have the same problem as i did, does any other backup works on your wii? if not get the recovery disc, burn it, insert it in your wii and leave it alone for 3 minutes, then POWER OFF AND ON your wii (do not reset) and you will have your wii working again.

yeah, the 1.9g file is padded so its a 1.35gig file. After i do the recovery disc, what should I do? I've tried a few backup games and they seem to be working. Any ideas? I really want to get SMG running but i can't get 1.8g disc to work..the GC logo comes up so the wii is reading it. It's just everytime i click on it..it resets. Any other ideas. I appreciate all the help i can get..

This sounds to me personally like a bad burn of the update. The same happened to me when I initially burnt 1.9b to a HP DVD-R so I decided to use a different writable type and it finally worked.

Thanks guys for the messages. This time I waited an hour or so, switched the wii back on and have now managed to update the wiikey firmware to 1.9g i believe. But does anyone know which SMG torrent works? I don't think Super_Mario_Galaxy_ReadNFO_Wii-PROMiNENT works, so does anyone know which one is a guarantee to work with the 1.9g update?

Does anyone know if the English (NTSC-U) Super Mario Galaxy works with the Wiikey 1.9g update on a Japanese (NTSC-J) Wii Console with 3.1J?

Forgive me if I'm misreading your post. Have you tried simply clicking the disk icon when SMG is in ? In my first attempt to play the game I put the disk in and appeared as though nothing was gonna happen as the the little preview screen showed nothing. However when I clicked it I was asked to do the update from the SMG game and after though I was off to the races sort of speak. Maybe this absolutely no help I know but it truthfully I put disk in 3 times thinking I had a dud before I just decided to try and click the disk preview square.
