HaiTac, I'm with Neph on this one. Tho I have never personally used Piodata, I have read too many horror stories and bad reviews. Not to mention a 50% success (or failure) rate.
Ritek G04 is known for quality at an affordable price with the same manufacturer from one batch to the next.
Besides, why switch when you have a proven commodity? Over 300 burns with G04's and one bad disc, it had a bad spot I didn't notice before I burned, it still played with a stutter in that one spot which is a bad burn to me. At .50 cents, no biggie.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. ;)

these riteks seem to skip for me, would updating firmware help, or maybe try different burning software?

Hi ChuckD
Those Riteks are the new +R 8x media.
What type of burner do you have.
Does it support bitsetting for bitsetting information see http://www.bobhudson.com/bitsetting/
If it does then have it set to DVD-Rom.
I have used the 4x discs with excellent results.
I hope this helps

I had the same problem using Ritek go4's + DVDShrink and DVD decryptor. (occasional skipping) Then I changed the quality settings on shrink to "smooth". Haven't had a coaster since.

I have found overall when using the new shrink 3.2, max smoothness seems to deliver the best results. This isn't 100% of course, just a rule of thumb. Some movies are gonna be different.

Hi Guys.
What's wrong with Piodata? I've been using Piodata 8X from http://www.blankmedia.ca and have found no probs with them. The Piodata that I'm using is just a branded G05. Use DVD Identifer and if will show that it is a G05. I also used DVDInfo Pro and found no errors in my burns. I have played them on numerous set-tops as well as dvd roms and all have played to the end flawlessly. Just my 2 cents.
Peace.

I can't find anywhere that sells Piodata discs for a better price than Ritek discs. I see absolutely no reason whatsoever to buy Piodata for more money than the tried and very true Ritek media!!

After some snooping around I've found that PIODATA has put their name on a range of media such as Lead Data, Ritek and Taiyo Yuden. They've also been known to pass off the crappy Lead Data media as Pioneer OEM so I'm very suspicious of the Riteks being genuine or even Grade A if they are and I'd bet my left you-know-what that the Taiyo Yudens are as fake a Pamela Anderson's you-know whats.
In other words it's the "Memorex Syndrome" - you don't know what you're going to get.
I could very well be wrong but until I see a compelling reason to change my views they aren't changing.

Neph-you're looking a little wobbly on that unicycle ;)
Thanx for the info, I suspected as much. To bad of a success rate not to.
Not that I was going to change from my beloved branded G04's anyway.
