you either need a no solder chip, fliptop, or slide card to use swap magic. Don't get the no solder chip, either buy a fliptop, or make a slide card.
V9 PS2, flip top, SMD, DVDLoader
Pioneer 107, ritek g05
DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, Nero

well I tried to boot Berserk using Swap Magic DVD 2.0 on my Ver 4 PS2 and I got a DRE so I tried a couple of original games Metal Gera Solid 3, Resident Evil Outbreak and Contra Shatered Soldier and they work fine but SM DVD won't, so I tried SM DVD 2.0 on my PSTwo Slim Line and it loads, it gets to the insert disc screen then I Swap for Berserk Original Import press X and it gets a blue border around the screen then the screen turns black and stops, and thats all that happens.

I'd like to tell everyone to NEVER USE THE SLIDE CARD. I used the slide card for around seven months, and unfortunately, it damaged my PS2's DVD drive. I found other posts on forums about the same thing happening to other people. Anyway, I bought a new PStwo (SCPH-70012, NTSC) and did the duct tape mod. I just did it an hour ago (literally) and I've played a retail copy of GTA:SA and backup copies of DDRMAX, DDR Extreme, and DDR Festival (A Japanese import). I'm using Swap Magic DVD 2.0 and Swap Magic CD 3.2. I'll keep everyone updated if I encounter any problems.

I've been playing my backups heavily for the past couple days, and I haven't encountered any problems yet. Everything's working fine.

My PSTwo is still working perfectly on backups and retail games. Check back to my first post to see when I did the mod. I think its been over a month.
EDIT: its been just over 1 month.

Hello there, I'm a newbie at this, I personally do not use ps2 that often but my wife and kid uses it. I recently attempted to mod the PS2 slim with a DMS4, to make the long story short, It was unsuccesful. I removed all the wires and used a 10x eyeloop ensured that there are no solder bridging. The unit now only power up for 1~2 seconds then shuts off ( light turns green for 1~2 sec then turns red). Does anyone have a clue what went wrong -can it be fixed at a reasonble cost ???

well cutting it is better than just pulling it off, did you buy it at Wal-mart or K-Mart or something like that? or was it from a Game store?

well thats not good, make absolute sure that nothing is bridged, try to make look just like it did before you put the DMS4 on it, and it also could be a saftey procaution that sony might have put on it, to make it shut down if something isn't right, or you can find out where the guy bought it from and take it back to the same store but one where you live.

During the disassembly process, there was this lithium battery that I had to take off to remove the upper shielding plate ( same battery on a PC board for time clock) I was wondering if that was meant to hold some boot up memory in a volatile memory ! I have not read anything about that battery, I don't know if former version have the same battery !

u need that battery to boot your ps2 on.
put it back on and check for bridges.
u could also try to install the chip again or take it to a professional solderer

Actually right now I just wanted to be able to start up the unit. I already removed the chip and all the wires. The unit only powers on (green light) for 1~2 seconds then powers off (red light). The disk drive does not spin, and the cpu fan does not even try to start...I already inspected the solder points with a 10X eyeloupe, I am sure that there were no solder bridges...I need some trouble shooting help..

ah there we go!
the problem is the fan not starting.
check if it has any loose connections or isnt connected properly.
if it still doesnt work, try replacing the fan with a different one (serach on google for how to replace the ps2's fan)
