No. As I said before the battery is useless without the MS.
And no the battery will not work as normal once converted. Well not completely you would have to turn on the PSP with the AC adapter then insert the battery then unplug the AC adapter and the battery would function as normal untill turned off.

No prob ddh and as I said if you need help PM me. But let me suggest a site that has easy installers for downgrade and install of CFW. I have used many of his files and all work 100% and can be trusted 100%.
http://www.calo-hacks.com/index.html
No matter what you do just read all the instructions. Although with Calo's installers it's pretty much idiot proof.

Actually, the battery would still work, you have to backup your eeprom.bin by pressing TRIANGLE before converting your battery. If you dont do this, you can always fix it by pressing square. All this is accessable by the battery creator.

Thats right-you need both the battery and the memory stick to unbrick your psp-once you are done unbricking/downgrading-whatever..You can convert the battery and memnory stick back to normal (provided you made a backup of the battery's eeprom)-and to use the memory stick as normal again, you would just need to format it via your psp-in the system setting menu..

Actually, I don't anymore. You see, when I realised that no more updates for Devhook were coming, I tried to create the Pandora's battery to downgrade. It failed and now that battery doesn't work. So I said screw it, I might as well downgrade and hope for the best. So I downgraded to 1.50 and it worked, then I went up to custom firmware. Although I do miss Devhook, games (like Metal Slug Anthology) run faster because the PSP no longer has to run the original firmware as well as emulate firmware as well as run a game.
My PSP Firmware History: 2.60 had to return the PSP because it had a dead pixel > new PSP had firmware 2.71 > 1.5 > 3.52 M33 > 3.52 M33-4 > 3.71 M33 > 3.71 M33 with 1.50 kernel

Use touran22's 2.71 TA-082 easy installer downgrader, that's what I used and it worked.

hey after using the easy installer, when the menu comes up on your bricked psp is it necessary to back up the nand before flashing it to 1.5? If it is bricked, would it matter?

Make sure your PSP is not plugged in to the AC adaptor...
You should insert the memory stick, then the battery-and your wifi and memstick lights will come on solid for a few seconds, then a menu should appear...

Lol, yeah. I had problems before when i got to the unbricking stage. If it doesn't work, try holding down X when it asks you to press it. That helped me :]

freakin nice..
ive been reading that there is now no risk or bricking and that even bricked psp's can be brought back to life...just like a shock to the heart..
so would it be possible now to write a completely different custom firmware for the psp?something like on the xbox360?

You should copy the mspformat utility to the root of your hard drive, and run the command from there...When you bring up the command window-it will probably start at "documents and settings\your name here\: so use the "cd" command to change the directory like so:
X:\documents and settings\your name here\:"cd.."(dont type the quotes-but DO type the dots)
That will bring you up to the documents and settings folder-repeat the "cd.." command again so it will bring you to the root of your hard drive like this:
X:/
Then after the command prompt, type mspformat X (X represents what drive your psp is) dont seperate with a colon (mspformat x:) or type the '.exe' after the mspformat command...It should work for you now....

I dont know if you did this or not, but did you first format the memory stick using the function from the psp settings menu? You have to format it from there before you can use the mspformat utility.
