Just use your current battery, you can still use it after.

you just need to backup the eeprom.bin [by pressing triangle]

and after the unbricking, you can recover it by like pressing L+R

or something like that :]

PSP Firmware History:

2.71 -> Got PSP modded (Waste Of Money) 3.40 -> Downloaded DAX's 3.40 OE-A -> 1.5 -> 1.53 -> 1.5 -> 1.53 xD -> 1.5 -> 3.40 OE-A -> 1.5 -> 3.52 m33 -> 3.52 m33-2 -> 3.52 m33-3 -> 3.52 m33-4 -> 1.5 -> 3.52 m33-4 -> 1.5 -> 3.71 m33 -> 3.80 m33 ->3.80 m33-3 -> 3.80 m33-5 -> 1.5 -> 3.71 m33 -> 3.71 m33-4 -> 3.80 m33 -> 3.80 m33-5

I dont know if you did this or not, but did you first format the memory stick using the function from the psp settings menu? You have to format it from there before you can use the mspformat utility.
Ok ill go thru all ive done.. 1. Format Memory Stick Via Psp. 2. Attempt to logically format but displayes "Open error <Write>" im so confuzd. :S
That error would normally mean that you are trying to write to something that is write-protected...Like if you were trying to format or copy files to a 1.44 floppy, and you have the little lock switch up....

Try formatting via your PC-go to My Computer and right click on the removeable drive letter that your PsP is when connected, and click "format" from there...Then try formatting logically...

but it says

Quote:
13. Stop the USB connection and go to the application ?Pandora?s Battery Firm. Installer? ? this only takes a few moments.
14. ONCE COMPLETED DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP ? REMOVE THE MS FROM THE PSP AND POWER THE UNIT DOWN RE-INSERT THE MS AND POWER THE SYSTEM BACK ON
15. Once completed, start the USB connection to the Windows PC.
16. Copy the file msipl.bin from the MS to c:\pandora\msinst
17. from a DOS prompt (referenced above) do the following
18. type ?cd c:\pandora\msinst?
19. type ?msinst W msipl.bin?

doesnt that means that i have to run the Pandora Battery firm. installer BEFORE i put the msipl thingy....?

Whoa, I got this to Work and Downgraded a 3.52 PSP YAY!

only thing is, the Guide at the beginning of this thread didnt seem to explaine it fully, but there is a link on Page9, well 3 links and the one that made most sence to me was the one made by igizmore,

http://igizmore.blogspot.com/2007/08/mak...tery-magic.html

The guide worked great, very easy to follow,
the whole sequence is:
Made MS,
Change Battery,
take both out of the PSP,
Put in the modded Battery,(autopowers on)
then put in the Modded ms, and it just works...

only think is I backed up the Battery data, and afterwards tryed to restore it, and it wouldnt, so I just had to use the make Battry normal option,
It seems to work Fine afterwards, and at the end of the day if it plays up all that is needed is to buy a new battery...

Lost count of my PSP CFW track, also who gives a baboons captains quarters, only info you need is: Ive done over 10 PSPs no bricks and its all thanks to the info in afterdawn (Yippie!)

PS2 (Battered and OLD) SwapMagic3...Its a ChubbyPS2.

Provided you did it correctly, you can hold down X and it might do it :]

Hi, I'm new to the homebrew thing, but I'm sure I'll be changing my PSP themes a lot. I have an extra PSP battery and I'm wondering if I should create a Pandora thing NOW, just to have it around for the inevitable day when I brick my PSP installing themes. I don't know many people who are into the whole PSP/homebrew scene, so I doubt I'd be able to use somebody else's PSP if I brick mine. What do you think?

Also, if I do that, will I also need a backup memory stick?

Thanks a lot. Please answer!! ^^

Sorry to double post, but I couldn't find an 'Edit' option.
I was just wondering if a 32mb stick is sufficient, like the one that came with the PSP?

Thanks!

Yes, i'd say you should make one, it's good to have something to fall back on.

You have to format your mem stick to make it work so if you want any data from the card you will want to save the contents to your PC.

When you create the battery you will want to back up the eeprom (Press triangle in the Battery Making App).

Last thing, the Edit Post button is the letter and pencil icon to the top right of your post.

in making the battery you need at least a 256mb memory stick(if you plan on buying one just go for at least a 2gb)

Ok, thanks for the responses! :)
So the memory stick can only have the Pandora files on it, and nothing else? I mean, after I reformat it and add the Pandora files, can I also keep games on it and use it like normal?

Seemingly the easy installer just says that it will install the files to the memory stick and convert it to a magic memory stick automatically.

Then it says you just run the battery app from the memory card and the battery should become a jigkick battery.

Is this true?

I'm all for the easiest way to get this done, but I want to make sure it is done correctly.

Thanks to everyone for enlightening me!

Seroiusly Guys,

Use the link that I copied from Page9 of this thread,

its got all the instructions line by line, and tells you what to do,

Also, the Memory Stick I made into a Magic Memory stick was a 512 Sandisk Memory Stick Pro Duo,

once I got into the link above, it worked a treat,

Firstly, the "page is not found", second i think there are better guides out there... nd the GUI is nearly impossible to get wrong :)

The tutorial says "Use mspformat.exe from the Pandora's Folder to format the Memory Stick." I downloaded the installer using the link provided and there is no mspformat.exe file. Where do I get this file?

Edit: Ok, I think I ruined my battery. I followed all the directions carefully. After installing the files on my mem stick, I hit X in the Pandora menu to create the battery. It said it was successful and then exited. Now when I place that battery in my PSP, the green power light is permanently on and that's it. The screen remains black and nothing happens. I can't turn it on or off without manually removing the battery. The PSP is not bricked, because I have a backup battery and my PSP works fine, just not on that battery.

I used the standard 1800mAh Sony battery that came with the PSP.

What did I do wrong??
