My first scan so I don't really know what I'm looking for, but I guess 98 is a good score. MIJ Fujifilm Taiyo Yuden T02 burned @ 8x.

nice scan h-k on the TY~ :)

i get very similar scans with 98 scores on my Benq 1640 burned @8x as well~ :0

can't say the same about your CMC MAG scans however...last time i had CMC MAGs was about 2+ years ago...and they will NEVER be fed into any of my burners today~

@ docTY

Well, I got the cmags for free so I figured I'd use them for data and movie backups for friends. I keep the TY discs for myself. :)

Do you have an opinion on Sony D11 discs? Any good? They are made in Taiwan.

hehe :P

with my hesitancy of getting into another flame war with other members on here regarding Sony, i will have to decline a "direct comment" onto Sony's "own coded" media... :)

while in the past, MANY other users have had very good success with them, BUT FOR ME AND ME ONLY, i will take the Taiyo Yuden coded ones ANYDAY over that of Sony~ :)

you can argue that point to death regarding the quality of Sony's media, regardless of WHERE they are made...but, FOR ME, it's simply not worth my time arguing with people that don't even have their facts straight concerning Sony...

i'm NOT directing this point at you h-k, i know and completely understand you simply asked a question of what I personally thought about SonyD11 discs...a very simple answer from ME would be, they might work well for you and many others, BUT, i would get the Taiyo Yudens over Sony ANYDAY of the year...while it is a FACT that Sony uses Taiyo Yuden as their manufacturer on the 8x DVD+R MIJ Sony branded discs, the same DOES NOT HOLD true on their made in taiwans; i got my information directly from my connection with Taiyo Yuden...they are the MANUFACTURERs of media, so i take THEIR word over Sony's and other members' replies as to WHICH SONY media are ACTUALLY TAIYO YUDEN PRODUCED or NOT~ :)

I'm not trying to bait you into a flame war doc. A friend bought some of the Sonys for me to backup some movies for him, so I was wondering what people thought of them. I just scanned one and it looked OK but not as good as my TYs.

Thanks for the reply. :)

no worries h-k, i wasn't implying you were trying to "bait me"...hehe, i just wanted to "clear the air" and make my point KNOWN before the possibility of a flame war~ covering the bases u know?

anyways, the Sony coded media usually scan pretty well, and much like you, i agree that the Taiyo Yuden ones scans are "better" :)

it's difficult for me to get people to understand Taiyo Yuden and all it's aspects...some people just have FALSE/misinformed information and get all pissy when confronted by me on their "claims"

i am glad that you are not one of those people, good luck with your Taiyo Yudens buddy, and your Sony ones too~ :) may you have continued success for both yourself and your friend...

I'm not an expert, no where near you guy's, I'm also new at this afterdawn forum, I', still a computer novice even tough I have used my computer for over 5 years now, mainly I use my computer for burning my store bought movies to make a back-up especially after my kids and friends have ruined so many, I have used HP, Maxell, Memorex, Fuji, and just recently learned about and bought some ty's, I never had a any trouble with any of those brands, believe it or not I did have trouble with the ty's till the people at hese forums told me to update my firmware, it worked, but no matter what I do I cant get my Sony DVD+R 8x to work, I bought them at best buy, now if they were made in tiawan or japan who knows, I cant read that fine print also on the package of 50 it doesnt say where they were made either, I,ve tried at least 10 times with these sony's and everyone failed, that tells me something about sony.
Somewhere in the past couple of years I think Sony's caring about thier customers has gone arry, my older sony dvd players all played all my burned dvd movies no matter what name brand it was, 2 months ago I tried and returned 3 new sony dvd players because they would not play any of my copy collection.
Like I said, I'm not a computer expert but I'm also not stupid, there are no maybes here, oh maybe you should have done this or that, I've eliminated all possibilities, thay have done somthing to thier products, will never buy anything sony again.
Hope this helps a little H-K

That's surprisingly good. That's the exception, not the rule however. I seriously doubt CMC Mag would grade out that well on your burner with any consistency. I'm quite sure I'm not the only one with an opinion on that subject. CMC Mag media scans are like a dog whiste for Doc and Alkohol lol.

It's not that uncommon for a cmc mag to scan out descent right after they are burned, but I seriously doubt it will look anywhere near that good in a few months. Here's a verbatim that is nearly 1 year old.

Here is a Prodisc S03 that is nearly a year and a half old. Unlike my old Ritek printables this one still has a reasonable scan and plays fine. I just watched it. Admitedly, it's not as good a scan as I usually get with a Verbatim or TY but it is serviceable. I wish I could still buy these. The printing surface was almost as good as a Ritek and coasters weren't that common. And they were cheap. This was burned at 6X on a Pioneer 107D. For some reason I used to get better scans on discs burned at 6X than I did at 4X with this burner.

Here is a scan of the label side of the disc in the above scan. They do print nicely. The TYs are better discs, but pictures printed on them never look quite this good. Colors are sort of drab in comparison.

When you guys do those disc quality scans using Nero, does it mean that if an error occurs when trying to initially spin up the drive, the dvd disc is complete garbage?

Well, I am having lots of fun now. I get to burn all my 100's of RitekG04's over again as they are all failing. I don't mean in just quality tests. I mean I am getting CRC errors and disks that are not playing back. Disks that used to read fine are not fine anymore. RitekG04's degrade over time reallly bad. Not as bad as say Laser or DGM but yeah they are allll, every single one of them going bad. Pity I didn't know that TY + Verbatim and even TDK would all hold up way longer than Ritek. Oh well, off to get a hundred Verbatims :P

Are these printable G04s? All of my printable G04 and G05 are failing. I wrote a letter to Ritek a while back, but it looks like they're not going to answer it. I have very few non printable Riteks, but they don't seem to be as bad. I have had this problem with all printable BeAll and Lead Data discs. I have had a few Prodisc MCC 01RG20 and MCC 02RG20 that have done this also but to a lesser degree. The Prodisc S03 and S04 seem to hold up well, though. I don't have any genuine Verbatims with the above MCC codes, but I don't see why they would hold up any better than the Prodisc ones. I have only been aware of this problem for a few months myself. I am slowly replacing my Riteks with TY or Verbatims as I run accross them.

I quit using G04's long ago due to similiar problems and also because I now use only the +r format for bitsetting purposes. The TY's I have used have been good but the 100's of verbatim's I've used have been outstanding. All MCC003 inkjet printables.

We're in the same bandwagon here buddy. Yep, I'm a DVD+R person here (Taiyo Yuden DVD+R, Verbatim DVD+R and Maxell DVD+R book typing into DVD-ROM). Now that's what you called it "sweet".

@Forkndave

Yeah, they are the printable ones. I forgot to add that in :P

What I am doing right now is just replacing all the important ones with my Verbatims +R (MCC 003) + TY's (TYGO1), will switch to NON-printable +R's when these run out and slowly will get to the rest. I am definitely liking the burns I am getting with the Verbatims and might stick with those for a bit as I can get them here for same price as on the net if you consider the shipping in with the price. I know a computer place in where I live ,in Bundaberg, who was putting people's family videos on RitekG04's Printables and saying how they were never going to go bad. Boy do I feel sorry for them people.

I always sort of wondered with the Ritek printables because they didn't look to have such a great build quantity with glue all around the edges that stuck out. I have printable TY's and they do not have nearly the excess glue the Riteks had. Then again everyone back then was saying how good they were. I quit Ritek when G05 came out because everyone started saying how bad they were and how TY + Verbatim were excellent. Thank goodness I listened to that at that time.

Hello guys.

I'm starting to believe that those +R's are a better choice than the others. Last week i bought 5 Verbatim DVD+R's (ID= YUDEN000 T02) from Maplin's, and managed to burn 4 PS2 games onto them no problems... I wanna try to buy a big bunch of them, i think that for that purpose, they are the way to go.

@permiggs -
were maplins cheap then as that's a first, i looked at their prices once and their prices were disgusting, far too expensive :)

whilst i have a PS2 i don't bother with it apart from the odd game of Simpsons Hit 'n Run , and my standalones play -R discs flawlessly everytime, as do anyone else's standalones i use.

but i still have some +R around here somewhere and i booktype them whenever i burn 'em so that's cool.

Don't forget about the 'Verb TY' they just can't be beaten

Hi Creaky.

I know they are a rip off, but during the Christmas hols they were the only ones that i found open close enough (lol). I'm still waiting for SVP to send me my 'Verbs TY'. I'm so excited, i can't wait.

I done my RAM upgrade by the way, got 1Gb now (2x PC3200 512 MB @400 MHz). The difference is quite good when i'm burning, especially PS2 games. My next thing is a new M/Board and a new processor (watch this space).

Miggs.
