LOL
No Tokijin, that one is my nemesis...

The fifth DVD was the failed attempt to do NFSMW... I gave up on that one, the result is the same on ALL DVD's...

I still have the ISO on my HDD to burn on a 'Verb TY' when they come in, if it doesn't work on those, then i'll just delete it and might buy the 'pre-owned' original for 25 quid...

Miggs.

If it ain't broken it doesn't need fixing...

I've been keeping a close eye on my batch of Ritek G-03.G-04's and they seem to be holding up quite well so far, but since I've just posted this I expect any minute now they will all delaminate at the same time with a loud pop...

bad thing about my G05's is i have about 40 left. i have not attempted to do anymore, since i still have about 200 MCC004's left, so those are first on my list.

That sucks. Oh well at least you got the other ones working. I'd be happy with that and move on. There's a world of backups that are ripe for the picking.

@gear79

seems like you are worrying a LIL too much in regards to your RitekG05s...while, yes, MY OWN Ridata Ritek 8x DVD-R G05s still hold up terrifically; perhaps the same trend is NOT true with the printables...mine are ALL not printable...

seems like with ALL the comments here regarding the printableRitek G04/G05 dye is not a very good one~ :( i guess i can't comment as i don't have any printable Riteks whatsoever...

anyways, while YOUR printable Riteks MAY deteriorate over time, no need to worry about them now...until YOU experience such failure/playback issues...no need to follow the "new trend" of Ritek bashing~ :)

just my 2 cents...my Riteks are NON-printable and i've had very good success with them, much like MANY others have had good success with the Ritek coded media under the Office Depot 8x (either format)brand and the MIT Maxells~ :)

@ doc...

i am not too worried, after all, i paid 10 bucks for these riteks from newegg, no shipping. i have just been reading the posts from others. either way, i just bought one more tub of the verbs MCC004 from office max, got them free actually.... hehe..

a friend gave me the money for them, when they were on sale for like 30 bucks, but they only had the - format. today, i traded them for the +.
i'm good, i'll check them in a few months to see how they are doing.

A lot of my RitekG05's get good quality scores. Not quite as good as TY's, but they grade out at 95 or better. How about you guys?

@gear79

yeah, give em' some time...to see if they DO in fact degrade within a few months...i checked MY ritekG05s from over 2 year ago and they STILL maintain low 90s/ high 80s in quality scores...while that doesn't compare with my TY scores as of late, that's not TOO bad regarding discs that i've had for over 2 years~ :)

congrats on more of the Verbs MCC004s...good stuff...

I have a Ritek G05 that I have used as a test disc. I've got about 6 scans from it, but I think I'll just post the numbers unless someone really wants to see them. The disc is a Ritek G05 printable recorded Oct 30, 2005 at 4X with a BenQ 1620.
scan 10-30-05
PIE
max 30
avg 9.93
total 125101

avg .08
total 801
POF 0
score 97

PIE
max 38
avg 10.24
total 130614
PIF
max 15
avg .54
total 6083POF 0

Scan 12-03-05

PIE

avg 9.92
total 126544
PIF
max 9
avg .29
total 2228
POF 0
score 95
So far I only had text printed on the disc so I decided to print a label onto the disc.

scan 12-31-05
PIE

avg 10.29
total 131429
PIF
max 6
avg .25

max 49
avg 16.40
total 219043
PIF
max 29
ang 1.14
total 13940
POF 172
score 0

As you can see the scan only became bad after the label was printed on the disc. I believe the discs may hold up better if only text is printed on them. The scan looked considerately different immediately after the picture was printed on it. The errors were spread differently over the disc. I have checked a TY before and after printing and there is a minor difference there also but they don't appear to further degrade with the passage of time like my Riteks have. I would say that the Riteks are probably safe if they are non printable or just aren't printed on. I imagine the minor changes at first are due to the wieght of the ink, but there shouldn't be any further degredation. The last scan has POF and that is not good.

Here is one of my most recent burned on MCC004 "GODZILLA TOKYO SOS", this is freaken awesome. However, I'm wondering though why/how come a few of the scans posted here has more PIF on the BenQ and still has a 98 Quality score??

This is because BenQ and lite-On measure PIF differently. Lite-On measures PIF per each ECC block and BenQ measures PIF per 8 ECC blocks. You would think that a 4 on a lite-On would be equal to a 32 on a BenQ, but Nero CD/DVD Speed considers 16 to be equal to 4 on a Lite-On. 4 on a Lite-On is 90 and 16 on a BenQ is also 90. You can have up to 3 peak on a BenQ and get a score of 99. You can't get 99 on a Lite-On since 1 gives a 98. A disc that gets a 95 score on a Lite-On will get a similar score on a BenQ although the peak PIF will be higher.

Okay so I wanted to post a scan of Drakengard for the PS2. Using a full scan of Nero CD/DVD Speed on TYG02 burned at 4x, it graded out to 100. Admittedly I have little knowledge of digital camera's and mine sucks, so I got tired of trying to get a postable picture. It had a max of 6 P.I. errors, 0 P.I. Failures and it was 4.10GB's. My burner is a Sony DRU 810A, a BenQ rebadge. Is the quality score inflated because of what ForknDave mentioned about how BenQ burners? I close everything running in the background while burning, if that helps.

0 PIF would give a quality score of 100 since peak PIF is what the quality score is based on.. It doesn't matter what kind of burner it is since you can't get any less than 0. You don't need to take a picture with a camera to post a picture. Just hit ALT & print screen at the same time. Go to paint and select edit and paste. Save this picture as a .jpg file. Now you have something that you can post. You will have to have the picture hosted by a site that does that such as http://www.photobucket.com . There are many sites that do this. This is just one of them.

Hi!
Can anyone tell me if TDK DVD-R are any good? The Manufacturer ID is TTH02.Or maybe the fist wise thing to do in the morning would be to return them? I bought them because it was a good deal ,and according to http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm they are 1st class media, but I wonder if the site is outdated...
Thanx.

My TDK's have faded after 2 years, my advice, RETURN! Get some good Taiyo Yuden, or Vebatim disks. I used to swear by Ritek but some of the senior members are reporting problems with the G-04 and G-05 series...

Thanks!!!
It would be a good choice so swap'em for Verbatims DVD +,or-? Both made in Taiwan. I don't think they are Data Life Plus nor I remember anything like "Advanced Metal Azo"-is that on the package when buying in the store?Would still be a decent media?. Well, maybe I should get a credit card and buy on-line! The price was right though :(!. Not many store choices up-north in frozen Wisconsin!
Thanks a bunch!

@cyprusrom

We're neighbor here I can see. I'm from 10 thousand lakes and I can get them Verbatim DVD+R "advanced azo" and Taiyo Yuden (FUJI DVD+R made in Japan) at Best Buy easily. If you want to get it locally, then grab the FUJI 8X DVD+R "made in japan", that's genuine Taiyo Yuden media right there. Sometimes Best Buy has some really good deal on sale on either the DVD+R Verbs or DVD+R FUJIs like 50 disc a pack for $15.99 or $19.99. If you want to go with online, then I highly recommend www.supermediastore.com -- I have ordered from them and so far it has been genuine media only.
