Guess the wii or ps3 is the obvious choice for a system after reading so many problems with the Xbox 360. Not a big fan of M$ anyways, but windows vista was a big disappointment too. I hate broken systems. I never have bought an xbox, i have had wii,ps2,ps3,nintendo 64,psone,super nes,and genesis and never had a broken system until i heard about the xbox. I was given an xbox 1 and I used it as a doorstop most of the time, while i used my ps2 as my main system back in the day. Good 'ole xbox, was such a good doorstop. Thanks microsoft :P

Wow seriously you used your xbox as a door stop? Sucks to be you. Never having enjoyed Halo and all that jazz.
Get an Xbox 360 it's the best system for GAMES there is. Trust me I have all three, and the PS3 comes in second because of Resistance online.
The Wii? Well what can I say. It was an impulse buy.

I don't play Unreal Tournament, but if I had to my PC would run it better anyway.
Viva Pinata is for the Xbox 360.

So today I was playing Rock Band and my unit froze. I restarted and it froze again. I put in Gears to make sure it wasn't the game, and to my surprise the game loaded and about 5 minutes later the ROD.
This unit was a falcon unit, I am wondering if anyone else here has had a falcon go bad???

Geez Dom, you've got really bad luck with those RRoDs. =(
I've heard only a handful of reports about the falcon units suffering the RRoD.

My xbox 360 just crapped out on me today( got it a year and a half ago). I was playing halo 3 for about 10 minutes on xbox live and my console frooze. I though Maybe live went down. turned my console off and then back on after about 3 minutes. It now wont boot any disc (dvd, xbox, xbox 360 , audio). it acts like it is reading the disc, then the disc stops spinning and the screen stays black. It also won't detect my hd dvd drive. Along with that, it won't shutdown currectly( the screen turns black, and the console still runs). I called Xbox help and they told me that the 3 year warrenty only covers the rrod and that it will cost me $99 to repair. This is plain bull #&$!. I have spent close to $800 on the unit(the unit its self, Games, 120GB HDD, memory card, live points, live subscription) just to get told that I have to pay close to another $100 on it. I am really #$^@(&! off here. I have sent the Better Business Bureau a email stating what has happened and how I am being treated by MS. I hope they make/pursway them in to repairing/ exchanging my unit for a new one. This is just plain bull. I have had my dreamcast and PS2 since they came out, and have had not one problem with them at all. They work great. Here I spend $400 some dollars on a machine to have it crap out on me after only a year and a half. that is not right.
(NEW) Now it freezes at the 360 logo on startup.

I would simply like to know out of these two fixes which one is better, meaning more successful than the other if one is in fact better.
1. The arctic silver thermal paste method (or)
2. The washer xclamp replacement method.
Thanks very much in advance.

combine both methods. they work well together. besides, if you were to do the xclamp mod, you would have to remove the old paste, because reusing old thermal paste is bad.

My 360 just recently got the ROD, and I sent it in. At first it wasn't a big deal because I had just purchased a PS3 (before the 360 broke). But now I've beaten all the games I care about playing for PS3, and I'm ready to have my 360 back. I checked the status online and it said it had shipped about a week ago, how long does it normally take to get a 360 back once it has been shipped?

Then it sounds like I might get it back today, its been about that long. Maybe I'll get lucky. I also wondered, when they send you a new 360, are they now sending the ones with the newer chipset in them that don't overheat?
Edit: I just received mine and after about an hour of playing, it seemed to get just as hot as my last 360 did, so apparently they aren't replacing the chipsets. However it did run alot quieter.
