Is there a way of tracking the progress of my 360's repair? I sent it out last week, I assume it won't get back to me for another 5 weeks or so, but I just wanted to see its status. Is there a web site or do I have to call?

EDIT: Well I found it but I need to sign up for a Windows Live ID which I feel I shouldn't have to do. So I guess I'll just play the waiting game and be surprised when it arrives.

I rented Ao2 and Dark Sector for the 360 over the weekend (they didn't have any copies of either for the PSTRIPLE).

Spent 6 hours or so on Sunday playing through Ao2 with a friend, about halfway through the game the screen would black out, but we could hear the game still. Tried turning off the TV, then turning it back, on, unplugging the 360 power & audio/video cables from both the TV & 360, and it was hit-or-miss when it would come back on. Decided to take a break and get dinner (Toxic Hell). Came back, booted it up, and it was fine. We chalked it up to starting to overheat. After another hour or so it started doing it again, but would come back usually after a few seconds. Finished the game that night.

Tried playing Dark Sector yesterday and after about 30 mins it would black out again, or would flash colors, or would stay a static magenta or blue color. Stopped playing.

Turn to today, started playing DS again, was fine for about 30 mins. Screen blacked out. Tried unplugging and replugging all the cables again, and tried plugging it into different slots on the system selector. Turned on my other consoles to make sure it wasn't the TV and they all worked fine. switched the cable to TV (it was on HDTV before). Display was OK after that. Booted up the game and as soon as I started playing the game let out a loud digital brrr and froze the game. Next thing I know, the dancing 3 red lights showed up. Yay!

The end?

This is why we can't have nice things.

if its under warranty your best bet is probably sending it out. otherwise do the x-clamp fix and this will almost 100% fix your problem. and it will take you less than an hour to do it. (depending on how mechanically inclined you are)

You want to hear my xbox 360 experience? It's not all about how crappy microsoft made xbox 360's but it's an experience none the less.

Ok so i think it was september or october i got this xbox 360 premium from ubid.com. It was refurbished I had halo 3 preordered and it came the day of the release. Well i played halo 3 at my friends house, he bought the halo 3 edition xbox 360. Then i went home to play on mine and it lasted maybe 3 hours. I plugged in a flash drive into my xbox and it started playing a song. It got to like 13 seconds in the song then a blue screen came up and all the music froze. I was like "oh great" turned it off, then turned it back on and got the RROD. So yeah first xbox 360 lasted maybe 3 hours. So i called up microsoft asked them what the process was. They said it would probably take a month to get a a replacement.

So i called up ubid and got it all shipped out, took something like a month and a half. I got it back and was playin my new games. Finally got all the way through halo 3 and got something like 70 percent completed in saints row.

I came home after work on new years to find my xbox 360 and all the games missing.... Had a police report filed and got a new xbox 360 elite from ebay for 450 shipped. I didnt' have to worry about it overheating now or any of the issues because of the redesigned mb.

I bought a opened xbox 360 off ebay for 112.50 shipped to my door. I opened it up and replaced the fans and the leds on the front with blue ones. Put some as5 on the processor and made sure it was never going to overheat. I replace the rubber belt on the bottom with one from a older cd rom and that fixed the opening issue. So now i had 2 fully functional xbox 360's.

Anyway about 2 weeks ago i came home from a party to find my door has been taken apart and kicked in. And the only thing missing was my xbox 360 elite and power block. Whoever did it didn't take the laptop on the bed, the computers in the corner, the 12 xbox's in a pile in the corner, or the other 360 that was just laying by the other xbox's. It doesnt' make any sense. Anyway i'll be buying another 360 elite probably from sams club in the next couple weeks when i get my check from insurance.

So I have had a pretty horrible xbox 360 experience so far.

It just goes to show you what someone would do for an xbox 360. It's just insane.

Re: Defective X-Box 360 and Microsoft Service Contract # WY01133XXXXXXX

Dear Sir or Madam:

On July 19, 2006 I purchased an Xbox 360. After reviewing the information included in the box with the game console, I purchased the referenced service contract from Microsoft. I was encouraged by Microsoft?s promises of highly trained technicians, immediate access to replacement parts as well as replacement of the console including the latest features if ours could not be repaired. I enjoyed the game play and invested in several additional games and accessories. Unfortunately, on January 14, 2007 our Xbox 360 failed and I began an odyssey of frustration that is still going on 4 months later.

I called the referenced toll free number and was connected to a call center somewhere outside of the US (India?). I jumped through the hoops and tried the steps that they requested. They then tried to dispatch a shipping box so we could send our console to the repair center. However, the ?order? would get stuck in your system and the box would never ship. I would then call back again, work through the phone tree, speak with a representative and another order would be entered. This order would get stuck as well, and no shipping box would ship. I repeated this process for a couple of weeks. I finally asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that one was not available. I then repeated my request, this time demanding to speak with the supervisor, and was finally connected to one. This supervisor assigned our case to Mike, a MS Customer Service Representative. I?m sorry but I do not know Mike?s last name but he has been the only positive aspect of this experience. Mike has repeatedly attempted to resolve my situation but has ultimately been unsuccessful through no fault of his own.

Mike was able to finally get a shipping box sent to me. I sent my Xbox 360 off for service. It was returned weeks later. Unfortunately, my console was not repaired and behaved just like it did before being serviced. Mike dispatched another shipping box and our original Xbox was returned again. The service center determined that our console could not be repaired and we were sent a refurbished unit. This console was dead on arrival and would not power up. Mike was as disappointed as I was and assured me that my problem would be resolved. He told me that he had instructed the repair center to send me a new console, not a refurbished one. We then received a console in an original Xbox carton that has previously been opened. The contents were not complete and indicated that it had been previously removed. This console was also dead and would not power up. We spoke with Mike again. He checked the serial number and indicated that the unit we had received was a store return due to the same problem I observed. Sadly, this problem has continued and last Friday, 11-May-07, we received our 4th ?refurbished? unit. Counting our original repair, this represented the 5th console sent to us by the repair center. This latest unit is the first that has been at all functional. It loads games very slowly, the display has ghosts and then the console will lock up and be unplayable after as little as 15 minutes of game play. Mike has told me that he will dispatch another shipping box to return the console yet again. I asked Mike if they could send me a ?new? unit as we have absolutely no confidence that any unit coming from the repair center will be in fact repaired. Mike said that there was nothing he could do but send another box to return our unit again to the repair center.

Enough is enough. I have endured 4 months of frustration and I am no closer to resolution than we started. I have spent hours on the phone trying to get this problem corrected, received repeated assurances of resolution, but Microsoft has failed to live up to their end of the bargain. I am extremely dissatisfied with this experience and the Microsoft Repair Center?s abilities. I no longer subscribe to the illusion that they can, at the present time at least, suitably repair an Xbox 360 console. I respectfully request that Microsoft fulfill their responsibility and honor the promises made in the service contract sales information by providing us with a new, sealed in the carton, functioning Xbox360 console. Refurbished units are not acceptable as they have proven to be not suitable for their intended purpose.

For your information, I have provided the reference numbers for this continuing issue. The most recent one is listed first. There are a few others that we have probably over looked.

103XXXXXXX 103XXXXXXX 103XXXXXXX 103XXXXXXX
103XXXXXXX 103XXXXXXX 103XXXXXXX 103XXXXXXX
103XXXXXXX 103XXXXXXX

Thank you for your assistance. I look forward to hearing that you will finally be able to satisfactorily bring this issue to a resolution.

Very Truly Yours,

Domreis

but what I would of done, well actually i did do it,like you say ...enough is enough...I'm on to console #4,i sent mine off for the 3 RROD in jan of 08,I was sent back another console, same serial #,I asked what was wrong with it,I was told motherboard and dvd drive was replaced, well just over a month I get the 3 RROD again,i phoned support, they just said send it in and we will repair it,I said look 3 times is enough don't you think...their reply was "we will replace it with a new console if it fails again" my response was....why wait till it fails again, why not just replace the damn thing now.....had no luck,I asked for my money back...still no go,so very annoyed,i got off the phone to them and talked to the retailer that i purchased the game from, they agreed. 3 consoles is not good enough and was pushing for what they call an RA# so that i could be given a new console,2 days later the retailer got back to me and said sorry we had no luck in getting you a new console, even more irritated,i phoned the head office of the retailers, spoke to a fella in the consoles department,he said this is not good enough, took my details, told me that i would have a brand new console by the end of the day.....he was true to his word,he had told his subsiduary buisness in my state to replace my console...:) whether they are any better i don't know yet but i recieved an elite out of all of this,*touch wood* all is well at the moment

So I got my three red light ring. It happened playing GTA after about 5 minutes of playing yesterday after a good solid 2 days playing. There was a beep and then it froze. Rebooted and it booted up to Xbox screen beeped and froze again and went to three lights. I shut it down disconnected everything gave it another shot, game loaded and froze after a minute. After this wont turn on or anything, three lights, error is 0102. So after research I came to the conclusion the towel trick is BS that is gonna make it worst. The heat gun seems too broad over the board for me and seems like it good cause the start of damage in the future. The eraser trick is pretty cool, although after reading much on this the best thing I saw was using the washer for the heat pipes in faucets. But what intrigues me the most is re-balling the GPU. Seen here: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=579364. I would like to know from some of the experienced people here if it's a professional job do you think it could be a permanent fix? How much would this job cost? Anyone know any skilled technicians in the New York area?

Why don't you just RMA it? Those methods are for people who already broke their warranties.

King Koor i'm sorry to hear that man. I just bought another 360 elite on gta release and it's been working flawlessly....well till someone steals it (there's no way they're getting through 2 deadbolts and a 1/2 inch think outside wall.

Anyway these guys are right, If you still have a warranty on the console have MS try to fix it. If you know what you're doing with computers and electronics the 360 is really easy to fix. The Fan and the X clamp replacement should be a permanent solution.

Let us know what you decide to do and let us know if you need help.

The warranty is not valid I dont think, I bought it off a person in BK for a 100 bucks and a Ipod Nano back in 06 and it was already flashed. I don't know how to open and reflash back to factory settings. I would like to do something that isn't just a temp fix. What should roughly be the cost of reballing, changing the clamps and the fan through a third party? Does anyone know anyone in NY offering these services? I will also def keep you guys updated on my success or lack thereof.

Hi Champs,

I feel disgraceful and disappointed in the hackers community.

I did not backup my BenQ-OFW.BIN file and feel like lost the sky's from the heavens. I have used i-prep on the USB Flash Drive and did not copy the Original Firmware File.

Can someone help how to retrieve my original firmware. If any xbox 360 repair services can help me in this. I m based in Dubai. Much appreciating your help in Advance Champs & Guru's.

Thanks

look in the backup folders that iprep makes, there should be two copies of it in there. its the folder entitled, 'backups' of all things i do believe.

hi, thankyou for responding, there is nothing in the folder as i re-worked on the iprep usb drive due to 0X71F error in flashing the first time.

Just thought I'd throw it out there, but I got a Hitachi 78FK drive thats completely destroyed, inopperatable, catching fire whatever...... Anyways I find it to be a real pain in the ass that in order to extract the key from this drive you need it to read a dvd disc, but hows that supposed to work if you're drive is messed? Isn't that why you wanted to replace it anyways? Hope somebody comes up with a better method soon :S

So I bought myself a broken xbox 360 off ebay for 60 bucks. The warranty sticker is still intact and it has the flashing lights. I will get this replaced by microsoft and flash it because it has the Samsung drive.

Chances are very high that you will not get the same one back. You will get a refurb.

If you're lucky, you'll get a benq in the refurb.

Depending what ever was wrong with it,I had the same response as you, what I had found is that they had put in a new motherboard and a benq drive, but used a secondhand chassis and put my same serial number back onto the other secondhand chassis, they talk about tampering with stickers huh.lol they do it themselves, yes I know what some people may say to that statement, but I was only poking a bit of fun at M$

haha, yeah that's exactly what I figured they did, and what I was hoping they did. But like you said I wasn't too sure if they would do that because I never really looked at the motherboard but thought that the serial number was on there too. Oh well I couldn't complain, it runs way better than it did before I sent if back.

Thanks for the response though
