@Techniks. Just one suggestion for the original game. If it won't boot it's probably because of the modchip. You need to disable it to play the original. On my Magic chip, you simply hold down the reset button for a couple of seconds until the blue eject light comes on. Newer chips don't have this problem since they can detect the media type automatically, but the old ones were never designed to boot dual layer games.
Hope this helps (And tones down your language a bit lol!!!)

I've finally understanded that my mod chip doesn't work on DL Disc's, but the PS2 not botting the original ones is pretty weird (I think)!
My mod chip only has 2 boot modes:
*Simple RESET for backup games
*Double RESET for DVD-Movies
it doesn't say anything about booting orignal games! :s

Greetings everyone @ afterdawn.
Thanks to Alkohol for figuring out how to boot this from DVD5. To build on what has already been stated : I have a 100% DVD5 backed up on a DVD-R using the "man game guide" and win hex (the man game guide can be found somewhere on this sight-sorry too lazy to find it again). Use alkohols guide to create an original image. Patch with toxics patch. winhex it to an acceptable size using the man guide. Burn as usual.
you will still need a "saved game" file from an "original game" on your memory card to automatically boot you into your garage. I use swap magic and it works perfectly for I so far. All thats needed now is a patch to get to the main menu to allow for a "fully" working DVD5 backup!!!

@zoeychico,
Can you please put in some of your successful "tutorials" on a 100% working DVD5 in here for us? Most of the people in here are pretty much knowledgeable about computers and programs already -- if not a lot, but at least able to comprehend and follow the instructions if provided by you or anyone that has had success on PS2 backing up methods. In addition, I tried to search for the "man game guide" and found nothing in here, which it links me back to this sticky instead. I'm glad to hear that you've finally made a successful of 100% working on a single DVD5.
Again, if you can, please post your basic ?tutorials? on how to back up on a working 100% successful using a single DVD5. This is truly incredible and I?m pretty sure a lot of members in here would like to see your instructions as well.

well I got a fully working dvd5/88% backup it plays through the intro movie and all no prob's.
I use verbatim dvd+R burned at 4x as I do all my backups cause at 1x and 2x I have problems more often.
I did not change the booktpye left it as usally setting.
I used the NTCS version it's the 4.94gig patched it with toxic.
I'm using the new slim line ps2 also which is more friendly with DVD+R'S.
My only question is how far can proceed in the game before the game runs out (lack for a better word but you know what I mean) can I proceed before the 88% game plays to the max and stops? Has anybody played to that point yet where it stop's? what percentage completed were you at when it stopped? if not stopped yet how far are you in the game? is anybody past 50% range yet?

I am not familiar with your chip but can you able/disable it. I would suggest disabling it before booting an original. If that is not the case what version is your Ps2, what year was it made??? or when did you buy it, and or what output, PAL or NTSC??? Need some info so I can help.

Here is the link to the guide, its actually the "GUY" game hence your difficulty in finding it....
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/140584
This is what it says:
The first thing you need are these tools:
DVD Decrypter to build your image file, and could be used to burn your image after you finish. The direct link to get DvdDecrypter is here http://www.dvddecrypter.com/index.php?act=download .
Winhex 11.5 was the version I used.I am sure you can use any other WinHex program though direct link to get WinHex is here http://www.x-ways.net/winhex/index-m.html .
Alright to begin first you need to plug the game into DVD Decrypter.Tell DVD Decrypter to read the game and save the image on your desktop,it should be at the top where it says Mode then click on browse and Name your image that you want to save and then click Decrypt. The actual image size should be 7.55Gig in size.
Now to begin you must have Winhex this is where we will start downsizing the game to fit on a 4.7Gig Dvd so Swap Magic will pick it up.
Open up Winhex and at the top of Winhex click on File and scroll down to where it says Open. You will have to find your image you just created with DVD Decrypter which was 7.55Gig and click on it and press Open once again. It should now desplay alot of code alot of numbers and letters ignore this,we won't be using this at all.
Now go to where it says File Manager at the top right in Winhex.Scroll down to where it says Split and click on it.Name it something like The Guy Game and press Save.It will bring up a prompt that says Desired File Size and below that a Box and then right beside that it has a scroll box that has this listed in it Bytes,KB,MB,and GB.You should type in 4.3 in the clear white box and then to the right of that on the scroll box select GB.It will now create the game at 4.3GB which is safe for Swap Magic. It will also prompt to save another file, but you can pretty much name it whatever you want as long as it doesn't interfere with the downsized Iso file, which means name it something else like Blah or Weee whatever floats yah boat doesn't really matter since you won't use the little file anyways.
Finally it is fixed and you can burn The Guy Game to work with Swap Magic.Just use DVD Decrypter or whatever program you are used to.If the program you are used to pops up and says invalid file, you can change the file to .ISO and have it burn.I hope this helps out people that are trying to burn this game.I was reading up on SwapMagicFix.com there guide for this game, and this is alot different works like a charm.I hope this helps alot of peeps out and cool beans.I know this is a old game, but I wasn't sure if anybody had got this game to work or not.If anybody needs any help I am here to help out.
Thanks should go to L-Burna for the above guide.
STEPS TO BURN TO DVD5:
1.create image with DVD Decrypter using ALKOHOL settings.
2.Patch newly created ISO with Toxic Patch.
3.use the "guy" game guide and winhex to shrink image to DVD5.
4.burn image onto DVD-R or DVD+R no need to change book types etc.
5.use your original game to create saved game file.
6.you should now be able to use your backup DVD5 for simulation mode.
later,
AG

I just want to confirm that this 100% method is working just like the 88%. However, I still can't get to the "main menu" though, which I'm pretty much satisfy with that. Overall, it's all good for now. I have to do some hard homeworks and was able to find the "split" on the new "WinHex 12.25" finally. I did set my GB to 4.3GB as stated by the instruction above, however, I did not use the "TOXIC PATCH" at all -- and here's what I did.
** ALKOHOL & ZOEYCHICO COMBO METHOD TO SUCCESSFULLY BACK UP "GT4" WITH 100% ON A DVD5 **
01) Using DVD Decrypter to "decrypt" iso file into HD using "ALKOHOL's " Settings on DVD Decrypter.<---- as posted earlier in this thread.
A) put original game into dvd-rom drive
B) put blank DVD-R/+R (use good media such as FUJI, MAXELL & VERBATIM) in dvd burner
C) choose MODE, ISO, READ R (note: again, make sure to check your "settings" in DVD Decrypter)
D) choose your "source" and "destination" <-- make a folder in C: drive or HD in prior to this: example (NEW GT4BACKUP) and browse to this folder.
E) click on "Decrypt" on DVD Decrypter, now wait 20 - 25 minutes until it finished.
02) Open up WinHex 12.25 or go here http://www.x-ways.net/winhex/index-m.html and down load it.
A) click on FILE, OPEN and browse to the folder or "NEW GT4BACKUP" you created earlier with DVD Decrypter, then OPEN it. (NOTE: GT4BACKUP has 4.9GB)
B) now WinHex will display tons of numbers & codes, but don't do anything and the name should say something like "GranTurismo4.ISO"
C) click on "TOOLs" on WinHex, File Tools, then "Split" and browse to your NEW GT4BACKUP or folder you created, then hit SPLIT.
D) make your split file equal 4.3GB when a small box appear and hit OK, then save it under a new name like "REBUILD GT4" so you won't get confuse with the previous one.
E) click on "SAVE" and WinHex should automatically compress the original GT4.ISO 4.9GB to a new 4.3GB REBUILD GT4 (you created) <--- this takes about 8 - 9 minutes.
F) when it gets to 90% or something it will ask you to save or name it again with a very samll file: just name it "small or junk" you won't need this anyway
G) sit and wait until it gets to 100% and completed, EXIT out.
H) now go to your newly 4.3 REBUILD GT4 file and rename it "REBUILD GT4.ISO" hit [ENTER]
3) Open up DVD Decrypter again, MODE, ISO, WRITE
A) choose your "source" <--- browse the your newly REBUILD GT4.ISO which you renamed it on step (H)
B) choose your "destination" <--- your dvd burner (make sure you have a good blank media in drive)
C) and now choose your burn speed at no higher than 4X, and just back it up or burn it.... sit and wait until its finished. Presto.... you're done.
3A)
D) put Swap Magic 3.6 into PS2, let it loads to Main Menu page
E) open up Flip Top and take out Swap Magic 3.6
F) put DVD5 backed up of 100% GT4 in, and close Flip Top
G) hit [X] to boot.......and now it should load
Hope this help some of yall.

been offline for a few days, but surely that method is just doing the 88% burn, but you've taken off the 12% before hand so whenit burns its 100%. With the movie extractor available it shouldnt be too long before you can remove the movies and relink the files. because you seem to be able to chop large chunks off the iso without too many problems, relinking after removing the movie files shouldnt be too much hassle - obviously after a method has been found for the movie deletion.

The problem is not relinking but the extraction and rebuilding itself. The extractors we have either only remove the movies, or the other files but not both. The other problem is where the movie files actually go. RipPSS which I used before to extract the movies also gives you the lba addresses of the movies but that's no good in a directory sense. What we need is an extractor that removes everything and in the right order, plus a rebuilder for the same. I'm wondering how long it'll be before someone makes a breakthrough on this.

V5 console
A) To play PS2 games, simply insert the game and play (all formats)
B) To play PSX backups, imports & silvers, power-on the console, then press reset button twice quickly (double press), this will then set the console to play back these titles.
C) To play DVD films, press the reset button twice (double press) after power-on to set the console to play back DVD titles.
There is no option to disable your chip.

@zoeychico/ trying to get that 100% dvd5
Well I did what your guide said I put the orginal game in opened decrypter I clicked on decrypt then it made a single ISO.
Then I winhex it when it was done what winhex created was file not a ISO but a image and that image file type type was file type.
and according to info it was suppose to be rebuildt ISO but that's not what I got and it can't be burned because decrypter does not reconize that type of file. Don't see what went wrong?

@Davv111,
If you followed my guide carefully, you shouldn't have any problem. However, I think you could have missed these steps. Here, try to "rename it" into an .ISO file so DVD Decrypter will recognize it and be able to back it up.
You need to repeat these steps, if you can't get DVD Decrypter to burn it:
G) sit and wait until it gets to 100% and completed, EXIT out.
H) now go to your newly 4.3 REBUILD GT4 file and rename it "REBUILD GT4.ISO" hit [ENTER]
3) Open up DVD Decrypter again, MODE, ISO, WRITE
A) choose your "source" <--- browse the your newly "REBUILD GT4.ISO" which you renamed it on step (H)
B) choose your "destination" <--- your dvd burner (make sure you have a good blank media in drive)
C) and now choose your burn speed at no higher than 4X, and just back it up or burn it.... sit and wait until its finished. Presto.... you're done.

Try using a Global Image for the Burning. Thenbirn in a dual layer it will work. I use the program Record Now Max Ver4.5 (veritas)..This program works well for backups

@Alkohol it's fine I just forgot to rename, thanks
Once again burning at 4x instead 2.4 which 2.4 is the lowest speed I can burn proved better. My backup burned at 2.4 made more noise from the laser head than the 4x. I'm using PS2V12/verbatim

Quote: @Alkohol. You definately need to patch the iso with toxic in order to get past the copyright screen. You sure you're not using a backup dual layer to copy DVD-5 from?
@simpsim1,
I thought that the "patch" is a tool to enable a DVD+R DL back up to boot/load/play only. If I remembered it correctly, when I first backed up GT4 using a Verbatim DVD+R DL blank, I reckon I didn't use any "patch" either. I think if you have the right "tools & settings" on DVD Decrypter, then you wouldn't need the "patch" to bypass any protection codes in addendum to backing up GT4 into a single DVD5 disc. I'm pretty sure if you have the latest version from DVD Decrypter, then you shouldn't have to worry much about any copyrights. However, please do correct me if I'm wrong though, with that being said; I'm not a computer geek on rebuilding or patching any games. In addition, I basically just combine the experienced I've acquired from backing up movies using DVD Decrypter with what I've recently learned through various methods on backing up PS2 games to handle the task. Therefore, I used the same settings to bypass encryption codes. However, I could be wrong and I could have misunderstood the "patch" if not totally, but by mistake.
Again, I may be wrong so don't take my words for it, and it is obvious that I'm still fairly new to the backing up and rebuilding an PS2 game.
