From my experience, Verbatim + (MCC) is an excellent media. I have fantastic results with this media in my Benq burner. Even better than Ricohjpn (TDK), most of the times. If they are in fact CMC, i don't know (i also have good results with CMC media).
I don't know about non-plus Verbatim, as i only burn +.

I have pretty bad experiences with Benq and have thus vowed not to buy anything from them again. I stick to that. I bought a 40x20x10 cd writer from them a while back which broke 2 weeks after buying it. It was replaced with another, which also broke 2 weeks after being installed. Thus i gave up, and in my old pc sits a waste of (then) £80. Hooray for me.

16 pages on bad media in the UK. The UK must be the bad media center of the world. Probably too many unknown Taiwan manufacturers. Unfortunately, most discussions drift to compatibility and not quality. Nowadays, most of the name brands are compatible with most drives. Quality is good components assembled to stay intact and readily record and store files over a long period. Most often the "readily record" part is all that is used in discussing quality. Even the latest batch of CMC media I accidentally acquired does a good job of recording. Since I store the backups in an air conditioned environment and in cases, I may never find out in my lifetime which of the various media I use will last the longest. So, far nothing is coming apart and nothing seems to be fading in the short term. They may go on to a different media type sometime in the next few years. How many floppies would it take to store "LOTR: Return of the King"?

"So, far nothing is coming apart and nothing seems to be fading in the short term"
The few AN31 media I managed to successfully burn a few months ago is now starting to look like a bad investment. One film I backed up from the original that my kids watch constantly is now doing the jig in their grans DVD player - a crappy Goodmans make - but works fine in my Sony player. Her player works fine with everything else except the AN31 burnt film....

Mr yang, I used Infiniti brand once I bought 10 discs just to try and every burn came out with some errors.
Also as you are the MD of dvd media, I Bought 100 Traxdata disc from you with the Id of ricoh 01 and a serial number of k3**** which you stated in this thread of being very poor quality. But you also say you only sell grade A products. you also didn't respond to this when directed to ealier in this thread. What do you have to say????

Infiniti seems medium to good quality to me.
I have burned some, and have some scanning results. Although until the half of the disc they seem quite good, when approaching the end of the disc they will produce some AVERAGE (not very good) results.
So I dont think they are consistent.

Good quality. Not very good results. Inconsistent. All that for the same product review. Reminds me of some politicians. "I voted for it before I voted against it."
Now I want to hear Mr Yang respond to how his bad disks are better than the competitions bad media. I've always wondered how one person can say, "My crap is better than your crap"; especially when it's the same crap. Not saying Ricoh is crap. They're one of the good discs I've used. Guess they all put out some bad media at times. Otherwise, why need a guarantee. Since what we're doing with movie files is making a backup copy, we can always make another copy; we just don't want to do it too often.
As for fading media; I was referring to name brands being decent quality. Quote: Nowadays, most of the name brands are compatible with most drives.
There are probably some no name brands (a lot of no names from Taiwan) that will start fading as soon as you burn. I've run across more media that I've never heard of in these media threads than I knew existed. Must be a Taiwanese pastime of making media in the back room.

If the movie plays good on your sony and not on grans player, you're looking at a compatibility issue. A sony player may do a better job of reading than the Goodman, but it can't make a bad disc good. It is commonly known that some media just doesn't perform well in some equipment. So, it isn't strange to run across it on occasion. Just don't burn any AN31 to play in grans player.

I researched into the origin of the current Infiniti discs. Note that, as with many brands, you can't really conclude anything about the quality of the current discs based on past experiences; they change manufacturers so often.
The current ones are Sony04D1. These are manufactured for Sony originally by Daxon Taiwan (AKA Benq/Acer), using a Sony formulated dye.
I have found these to be excellent in terms of compatibility, they seem to be holding up quite well (200 burned 6 months ago, all still OK), and tests with KProbe have shown an above-average, Ritek-like error rate. Typically hovering around the 10-20PI mark, maxing at 50 around 2/3 of the way through the disc.
Given that these are currently being sold for 16p each, even if they are B/C/worse grade they're no worse than other budget media at higher prices, like the el-cheapo Riteks doing the rounds.

The link is for a site with a search engine on DVD brands and manufacturers. The search is in the lower right of the window. The brand and manufacturer names are in English so they are easily followed. The 3 words above are the only translation you will need. Now you can see a lot of what manufacturers make for certain brands and what manufacturers certain brands use; good cross reference. This is only slightly dated and may give some idea of what you're buying before you make the purchase. As said before, many brands change manufacturers frequently. Some of the major brands manufacture for themselves and retain the same manufacturers long term.
I've found a few brands that reliably stick to the same manufacturers. When possible I stick to these. So far they have not given me too many bad surprises. Once I see a shift to inferior merchandise, I take my business elsewhere.
The best advice anyone can give is to be a smart consumer. Paying attention to the market and what's happening can save a lot of headaches. Just deal with reputable vendors with a guaranteed product. At least if you get some bad media, with a reliable vendor and a good guarantee, you can get replacements for the occasional substandard media.

Brobear, probably you didnt give some time to SEE what I write...
I say it was very good almost up to the end, but very close to the end it produced some average results. Isnt that reasonable to say?
It gave me Max PI errors of 20, which is a very good value, but very close close to the end I got a solid PI errors of 80-100. Do you see anything strange here? Me not...
You might know that things in life are black or white only... THATS WHY I said i rate it medium to good!
Afterall, it might be some inconsistent batch. I just posted this info as a reply to Mr Yang and for others info, for feedback purposes.

I don't mean to argue, but i'd say even a rating of 20 errors is pretty bad. I wouldn't really say any media was good unless it was lower than 5 myself, is that so much to ask?

Well, up to 50PI error rates can be explained away by media compatibility with the writer and/or reader you're running Kprobe with.
I'm not 100% convinced by KProbe scans anyway. Would you believe that my 851s consistently gives average PI error rates of 0.6-0.8 on Infosmart media?

I'm fully capable of reading what you wrote. The word you used for the media is applicable to your analysis; inconsistent. Proofread what you wrote and you can see it is ambiguous. Other members reading the statement saw the same. You could have said the overall quality appears to be medium to poor after giving your findings. You would do well to model your analysis posts after those of jase. Good quality, poor results, and inconsistent for the same product doesn't give a very clear view.

Totos,
By the way, posting into Mr Yang's promotions can be something of a dubious honor. He doesn't seem very anxious to answer the direct questions posed to him by members over the last few days. I'm a bit leery of a vendor trying to save prospective customers from the problematic media sold by his competitors; especially when he appears to be selling the same media. On that, I am just going by what is posted on this thread.

Hi brobear. As I can see you are very chatty! Most of the page is covered by your posts. ;)
Ok now I will explain myself regarding my Sony feedback post.
These were my results made by Plextools v2.16. I dont know if Jase obtained different ones compared to mine, but at least thats what I got.
The results ranged from 20 max errors (GOOD) and at the end of the disc (about 100MB) there was a solid 80-100 erros max (AVERAGE, NOT VERY GOOD, MEDIUM OR JUST CALL IT WHATEVER YOU LIKE IT!). I dont see how this is ambiguous. Anyway , if it was ambiguous Brobear may I ask forginess?
I think what you said for me " posting into Mr Yang's promotions can be something of a dubious honor" is quite venomous...
What I did was just to leave some feedback to Mr Yang's (who is a respectable member as anyone)question about Sony discs quality. I dont see where you find something dishonest in it. If Mr Yang didnt answer to you, that doesnt mean he is dishonest. So please do me a favour: Just use your mind before you accuse someone, otherwise you are becoming funny. (dont mean to offend you, just answer to your unfair statements).
Hi Sammoris. I would like to let you know that these are MAX values. That means there might be some peaks. If 20 was about the avg PI errors, yes it should be a bad quality disc. But 20 for max PI erros is very close to excellent (actually excellent is below 20). Thats why you ask much for 5 as max PI errors (bear in mind that I had many TY discs -which are the BEST- to give me max PI errors of 12) :)

Totos,
You have my 'forginess'. Putting in test figures according to segments makes a bit more sense. I sort of like what jase said as well. Those tests can be misleading. You have to look at usage as well (their track record). You yourself said the media seemed inconsistent. By the way, my statements were about media in general, not a particular one.
If I appeared chatty, then it was in response to statements being made. Also, there was a good bit of common sense in what I said, which sometimes goes missing. I noticed you proofed your statement and added the material that made some sense of your analysis.
If you followed the supplied links, you would see they tend to reinforce what I said. Possibly you were more worried about protecting your honor than what was being said. You should have paid more attention to jase's post than comtemplating an attack on me for commenting about your post. Jase's statement: Quote: I researched into the origin of the current Infiniti discs.
Your Sony post was about Daxon manufactured discs using a Sony dye formula. Daxon, if you haven't noticed, doesn't have one of the better track records. That goes back to what I was saying. Appears I was agreeing with jase. I guess people with a bit of experience can tend to be funny to those with a vendetta on their mind.
I had no intent of being venomous in Mr Yang's case. If you go back and look through this thread though, you will find that Mr Yang has a tendency to put down other suppliers media. He sells the same media he sometimes puts down. I didn't ask him any direct questions. I just said I would like to see him answer some of the direct questions that were being directed toward him by the other members. What was venomous about that? The venom appears to be from you due to my just questioning a strange set of circumstances. The gist of what is often said by Mr Yang is that you can't trust other vendors, but you can trust him. If that isn't a plug for his business, I don't know what is.
I know there are some scams going on and possibly Mr Yang is pointing some of those out. But in the process he is advertising for himself. In your youth, you may be overlooking the fact that people in business often have ulterior motives when it comes to business. He even supplies the URL for his business in his signature.
If I appear to be verbose, it is only in response to your accusations. I interjected a bit of common sense and suggested the members sharpen their consumer skills. Because it somehow angered you, you place an attack and call me funny. I don't appreciate being attacked for making a post that was not being offensive. You can pursue what you think necessary to protect whatever claim you wish to support in defending whatever wrong you perceived was done you. In your case I only asked that you word your posts so they didn't seem ambiguous. You proofed and restated your findings. So, obviously you found I was correct.
Stooping to calling people funny because they don't post to your liking doesn't say much for you totos.

Nothing personal? Are you kidding us?
Your quote "By the way, posting into Mr Yang's promotions can be something of a dubious honor."
Is this nothing personal? Stop exposing yourself anymore, and stop answering questions that you set by yourself.
