Thats great it has worked out for you. I am surprised it doesn't tell the version number on the disc though.
Datel support says "To check the version of your Action Replay Max, look on the underside of the disc, you will see a dark blue ring towards the center; this is where you will find the version number."

would you look at that! I just went to go look again and there it was. I completely missed it since the numbering blended in so well. Only at certain angles was I able to see it. Mine says its a 3.70. Weird that the numbers dont match up to the 3.30- 3.36.

I was gonna suggest the same thing ie. "look on the underside of the disc, you will see a dark blue ring towards the center" for the version number, but smokyrain beat me to it, lol.

Mine says version 3.35. Your 3.70 must be real new.

i was just wondering why my action replay disc doesn't have the max media player. it is the one in the silver tin, but on the main menu, all i have is: Expert Mode (pic of a lightbulb), Max Memory (pics of memory cards 1 & 2), DVD Region X (pic of world with a DVD behind it), and then all the way on the right side, Settings (pic of a computer). The weird thing is that between DVD Region X and Settings there are two empty spaces that should have something in them..... kinda weird, but if anyone can help me with getting max media player, i would be eternally grateful!!!!

Thanks,
- David.

Not all Ar Max discs come with max media player. Yours didn't then if it is not there. That is why the blank spaces
You would have to purchase a new Ar Max disc that does come with the media player.

this might be a stupid question. i understand the whole process but i am confused on if this only works if you have the orignal copy of the game you are trying to boot or any backed up ps2 game you have?

Ok , if you don't have the media player on your Ar Max how are you able to use the pen drive and see it.
The reason you need the media player is to be able to put it in your usb pen drive with cdloader on it to boot backup games.

Ok i am able to see the pen drive and copy files from it to mem card, but how im going to run cdloader(bye the way i fought that i hav to put in cogswaploader.elf in pen drive) if in my ar max home menu theres only 4 options:
1)expert mode
2)max memory manager
3)dvd region x
4)settings

and when iv tried to put in pen drive with cogswap and try to copy the file to mem card ar max comes up with an error that there are no files to copy.

Ok I am probably not explaining this right.
Firstly the Ar Max memory manager can only handle save files. It won't transfer elf files.

You have a FAT PS2 and so without the media player in Ar Max, you only have this option. You will need a PS1 original disc.

1. To make an exploit using PS2 exploit Utility 5.1 and export it to a memory card save(XPS format). Then use PS2 Savebuilder to open that save file, and then save it as a new file with .max extension.
You can have cdloader.elf, uLaunch 4.12 etc on the mc exploit.
Then transfer it to your usb pen drive. There is a readme.txt included and a great help file in the Exploit program. Also here is a PS2 Exploit Utility Guide that can explain a bit more.
You would then use your save manager in Ar Max to transfer it from your usb pen drive to the memory card.

Then everytime you put in your PS1 original game it should boot up to either uLaunch 4.12 or cdloader.elf depending how you set it up in the Exploit utility.

To use Cdloader.elf
Just launch cdloader
Once it loads up, press EJECT on your PS2 and put in an original High TOC PS2 DVD
Then u have to press (X) when message is displayed.
Another message will appear saying (USE THE EA METHOD), you will notice the disc will stop spinning.
Swap the TOC original game with the backup game using your fliptop or slide tool, then press (X), it takes a while to load, but it will load up.

Otherwise you could return your AR MAX and make sure to get the one with Media Player.
Then you would be able to just have the cdloader.elf on your usb pen drive and be able to launch it through the media player to play your backups.

I hope that explains a bit better for you.

If your ARMAX does not have media player you cannot install the exploit.
You need to find an older version of ARMAX that has it.Just make sure when you buy it it says "includes max media player, play homebrew on your unmodded ps2" on the front cover

You can try using the method I posted here, but you will need a PS1 disk and a FAT PS2,and once the IsCentral.md file is transferred to your ar max, you would uncrush to the mc.
You would need cogswap.elf, cdloader.elf and ulaunch4.12 which you can get from sksapps.com.

Oops my bad, replying to too many posts.
Open the IsCentral.xps file in Ps2 Savebuilder then save it as a IsCentral.max file.

I gave you the wrong extension, sorry.

If you did that and it still can't see it. Is your usb flash formatted to FAT16 or FAT32.

Yeah, I did what the guide said, i saved into a .max file and i put it on the flash drive and inserted into my ps2 while armax was running. Nothing happened.

Where in the menu is the flash drive supposed to show up? I think i have version 3.02 (im sure that's what it said).

The flash drive is formatted to FAT32.
