What readout? You mean those scans? It's from Nero CD-DVD Speed, it tests your backups for quality scores (for errors or high quality).

Okay more pretty scans. Not really adding anything to the thread, but I like pretty pictures lol. A back up of God of War, which even you geezers should know is a PS2 game. The Geezer comment was a j/k.

93. Q. How can I tell if my burned disc is of good quality?
A. Well besides you using quality media like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim's, you can use a program called Nero CD/DVD Speed to measure the quality of your scans. It measures POF, PIF and gives your disc a quality score based largely on it's precoreded Media ID. In my experience that's the key component to getting a good quality score. A crap manufacturer like CMC Mag won't maintain a great quality score over time, even if you follow all the advice given on AD for successful burning. You don't need to know exactly what PIF's and POF's are, just know the more of them, the more likely your disc will skip, lag, freeze, or not boot at all. When people say CMC Mag or Memorex media is crap, that info is based largely on many Nero CD/DVD Speeds scans by burn enthusiaists on CMC Mag media that have yielded terrible quality scores. Try it yourself and see. You can find Nero CD/DVD Speed here: http://www.cdspeed2000.com/go.php3?link=download.html Plextor DVD Burners aren't compatible with Nero CD/DVD Speed. For their DVD Burners you need to use a program called Plextools, which does about the same thing as Nero CD/DVD Speed minus the quality score. You can find Plextools here: http://www.plextools.com/download/download.asp

Just to add to your question; "can anyone share how alkohol got those readout to come up on Nero?"

The answer is simple, use high quality media and DON'T BURN at 16X. I've found that my DRU710A likes to burn 4X and some 8X with great results.

Incidentally, I am a geezer. I turned 65 last month. Being a geezer is a whole lot better than not getting to be one. The only advantage I've seen so far, other than getting to be one, is I get senior discounts at the movie theater. Otrherwise, it sort of sucks.

That sounds like an external burner. I don't believe Nero CD/DVD Speed supports external burners. At least the old Sony external burner I used wasn't supported by it.

Nero CD/DVD Speed Test Disc Quality test does not support my Pioneer or LG burners. DVD Info Pro can do a scan with the Pioneer, but it can't really be compared with anything else. Here is a scan that was burned on a Pioneer 109 at 8X. Although, technically, it falls into the specs for good, I consider it rather piss poor for a TY. This was scanned with a BenQ 1620. I'm sure it will play OK, but the PIF are over half as much as the PIE (total). I have had much worse discs that played fine.

I would agree that's piss poor for TY's. I learned respect for my elder's ForknDave don't worry lol. Hell you guys decide every election and yet the media and advertiser's totally ignore you, that's sheer stupidity. Hopefully I get to live that long. It's good that there are some older people on this site. Sometimes it seems like it's all kiddies in between their middle school classes, at least in the PS2 forums. Maybe the other forums aren't like that. Anyways you may only be a member, but you seem to be able to hold your own with anyone on this site when it comes to DVD Burning. Keep the good work.

I've been on this forum for 2 1/2 years so far. I go for long periods without posting anything. Another year and maybe I'll be a senior member. This will be my 438th post I try and not comment unless I'm pretty sure about what I'm talking about. I don't need any help to look like an idiot. If you don't believe me just ask my wife.

Thanks. I'm going to borrow your upload of IML2ISO v.4 and send it to SKS apps, if that's okay with you Alkohol. That's one of the few PS2 related tools they don't host. Again that's up to you. Cheers!

alkohol,

This is off subject but I'll bet you can provide an answer for me. I don't mess much with avi's but I have some I rescently dl'ed and have been useing the trial vs of dvxtodvd (it has the watermark) to convert them to dvd format. Is there any other freeware proggy you know of that will do this or do you recommend DivXtoDVD. If you think dvdxtodvd is the way to go I will most likely go ahead and purchase a key for it. BTW I'm right in the middle at a ripe old age of 42.

Do you have Nero 7? If you do, then you can just use Nero Vision 4 or Nero Vision Express (NVE 3 for Nero 6 Ultra). Yes, I've used both VSO DivXtoDVD and Nero Vision in the past. Now I'm currently using Nero Vision 4 to convert and transcode nearly all of my AVI projects, which seems to produce great quality pictures in results. I still use VSO DivXtoDVD once in a while, so far I think they're both very easy to use. I think if you have CopyToDVD, then it will burn using CopyToDVD once DivXtoDVD is completed. I would say, both DivXtoDVD and Nero Vision are on par, but Nero is my preference, that's my opinion only.

Hey Alkohol, this is kind of a noobish question, but is Nero Vision 3 supposed to be selectable from the start menu? I "acquired" a copy of Nero 6 Ultra Edition and NV3 doesn't seem to be listed under Nero Ultra Edition.

Well it is older. Ricoh media is anything special, but it's not terrible. It's certainly better than CMC Mag media. Is your burner in DMA mode? Do you have a ton of stuff running while burning, i.e MSN Messenger or the Internet?

kool, we got a new member in our "gang" now? welcome tokijin~ :)

as with my elder brothers on here, gotta agree w/ forkndave with the "wife bit"... :) married here as well...can be great, can be not so great...depends on the "speed of the burn" LOL j/k...

anyways, since everyone is shouting their ages out, i'm 31...i agree with my buddy alkohol that some of the "lil kiddies" really do get on my nerves sometimes, but, i don't even have a PS2, so i never venture into the other forums here on AfterDawn~ :) i find my annoyances just READING in the safety valve~ LOL..i don't even bother posting cuz i would probably make some of them lil kids cry...

anyways, arniebear is my senior as well, i have learned QUITE A BIT from HIM personally...for the most part, at least from what i've noticed on here since i joined the family; the "older" gentlemen here really know what they are talkin about..they are precise, wise, and have a lot to offer in terms of advice and knowledge...

off the top of my head, 4 guys that immediately come to mind are arniebear, mort81, catfreak and forkndave...you guys are only a little older than me, very well respected in MY book :)

well, cheers to everyone that is actively participating in this very informative thread...alkohol, u are GOOD in MY BOOK too~ thanks for all the shoutouts here and there...i've learned from you as well~

Once you click on Nero StartSmart at Desktop, Nero should launched all of it's applications. If you have Nero package #2 installed on your system, then you should have Nero Vision on the list/tab on the left. You can follow my simple/basic guide on "How to convert AVI files into DVD using Nero Vision" at the Nero forum, here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/272946

Look at picture for reference:

Good luck and enjoy it!!

@Doc

Thanks and you're welcome. I've learned a lot from you, creaky, Mort81 and arniebear (especially for DVD Rebuilder & CCE for the setup, but I'm lazy and I never have the times to finish where I started, LOL).

In my eyes, you guys are some of the few respected members here at AD that I never want to mess with, sad but true, hehehe. Well, since everyone is shouting out their 2 cents on their ages, here I am, the big 30.

Again, Tokijin, welcome to the "gang" at AD, and trust me, you won't be dissapointed. Cool... now we're one of the biggest gang here at AD, especially at this forum (DVD-R/+R Media).

Doc. you forgot to say; "Taiyo Yuden ROCK!!"
