Someone call 911, Neph has fallen and bumped his head. Remember the glory days of the 70's? When the Album Rock format was the craze? (Don't play the hits, play the obscure stuff from the rest of the album no one remembers or has never heard from a one shot wonder)
A sure sign of getting OLD Neph, when your kids love a "New" song, only to be informed that someone recorded it back in the 70's as a cover of an old 50's song. Ah the young-un's these days,

Boy oh boy is that true. I run into a lot of kids these days that are into music but I rarely see one thats into music. A while back when No Doubt did a marginal cover of Talk Talk's early eighties hit "It's My Life" and Iw ondered how many kids liked that song but had no clue about the wonderful and, in their later years, extremely talented band that wrote it. Their later albums like Color of Spring, Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock are amazing and very original albums but most kiddies will miss out on them.

Another case in point - A couple years ago on some forum music forum I saw some teenage girl go on and on about Marilyn Manson's pioneering originality in creepy satanic shock rock. All I could do is shake my head. Ever heard of Alice Cooper you dummy? Any idea who King Diamond is? How could you have missed Black Sabbath? You think a half-rate putz like Marilyn Manson thought all that up himself? Not a chance. Different colored contacts and dressing like a trashy man-hooker doesn't make him original.

Then the same girl went on about how she was such a goth and how Nickelback was such a total goth band (NOT!) and it almost made me puke. I asked her if she listened to Bauhaus and she had no idea who they were. The band that almost singlehandedly shaped the goth movement and she had never heard of them.

Typically if you take a band you like and trace back their influences you'll find a wealth of phenomenal music you'd have otherwise missed. The reverse holds true too. If you're into an band or artist from a past decade then look at who they've influenced and see what the next generation's done with it.

Oh well, Sunday rant is over :P

Take care all :)

Take away the colored contacts and David Bowie aka Ziggy Stardust had the trashy man-hooker bit down pat long before the rest.

LEARN AND THEN TEACH

Lesson 1:

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her
shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a
towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob,
the next-door neighbor.

Before she says a word, Bob says, "I'll give you $800 to drop that
towel. "

After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked
in front of Bob After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.

The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she
gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, "Who was that?"

"It was Bob the next door neighbor," she replies.

"Great!" the husband says, "did he say anything about the $800 he owes
me?"

Moral of the story :
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with
your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent
avo idable exposure

Lesson 2:

A priest offered a Nun a lift. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing
her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After
controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.

The nun said, "Father, remember Psalm 129?" The priest removed his
hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.

The nun once again said, "Father, remember Psalm 129?"

The priest apologized "Sorry sister but the flesh is weak."

Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.

On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129

It said, "Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory."

Moral of the story:
If you are not well informed in your job, you mig ht miss a great
opportunity

Lesson 3:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to
lunch when they find an a ntique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes
out.

The Genie says, "I'll give each of you just one wish."

"Me first! Me first!" says the admin clerk. "I want to be in the
Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world."

Puff! She's gone.

"Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in Hawaii,
relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of
Pina Coladas and the love of my life."

Puff! He's gone.

"OK, you're up," the Genie says to the manager.

The manager says, "I want those two back in the office after lunch."

Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit
saw the eagle and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing?"

The eagle answered: "Sure , why not."

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a
sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high
up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to
the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the
energy."

"Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull.
They're packed with nutrients."

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him
enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day,
after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally
after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the
tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
BullShit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Lesson 6

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird
froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying
there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to
realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay
there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following
the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and
promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3) And when you 're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

And the young'uns think american idol is the epitomy of entertainment. I'm clearing my head by listening to some Floyd and Zep.

Lol, Fiend, I had to name just one or else I could've gone on all day! Sisters of Mercy have been and are one of my all-time favorite bands. Can't forget Fields of the Nephilim either ;)

Sir Loco,

You're absolutely right about David Bowie. I guess that just leaves Putz Manson's contacts.

Lol, that's too funny Blivet. Hell, I do the same thing all the time. Being oblivious is an art form for me :)

Aside from their outstanding music Fields of the Nephilim sparked my interest in the darker more obscure parts of the bible and of course the actual Nephilim really captured my interest. I'm one of the curious ones when it comes to music and bands so naturally I wanted to know what the heck the Nephilim were so it was off to the library (no internet back then kids!!!) to get the 411 on these nefarious sounding fellas. Turns out they were nine feet tall, no joke on the battlefield and couldn't swim to well when the floods came :P

I really dig all their albums but I'd have to say Dawnrazor is my fave from The Nephilim. "Preacher Man" and "Dust" kick some serious booty. The volume goes way up when either of those two come on :D

My bitch of the day;

I spent a good part of my afternoon (1-3:30) in the car with my family. This might sound cool and good to some but my parents were looking for a house as they want to move into a new house with in the next year or so.

Well, we found some pretty cool houses close to our current area but my parents said they probably can't afford any of them. Well, we kept looking and everyone we looked at they said "We probably can't afford them".

The stupid thing is, why the crap are they looking at these sweet houses they can't afford? The thing that pissed me off was I am working full time and I don't have much free time other then my weekends. So being stuck in a stupid car with my annoying little brother for two hours was crazy.

Thanks to those that read that. :p

Peace and I hope your day goes well for anyone who reads this.

My Bitch of last year!

If anyone has ever heard of SunRiver Oregon, you would know that the Property values have sky rocketed. Well, we where shopping for a Vacation home over their, and found a Great home with 3 Master Bedrooms, and 3 Master Bathrooms for $340,000, We were going to buy it, but decided to wait to see if the price would drop during the winter. It sold, and we weren't aware of it. WE went back looking again, and came across the same house and looked at the price tag, and it was valued at $982,000, that was only two years later. We could have made half a mill in 2 years. Oh well.

Yeah, just wanted to tell the story, as I was reminded by it from the last post.

Confirmed: EMI and Apple will sell DRM-free music
Published April 2nd, 2007 in News, Web 2.0, Web Tags: Apple, DRM, DRM free music, EMI, News, online music, web, web 2.0.

Several months of rumors and speculations are confirmed: music giant EMI will start selling DRM-free music, offering its repertoire first on Apple?s iTunes. Here?s an excerpt from the official press release:

?EMI Music today announced that it is launching new premium downloads for retail on a global basis, making all of its digital repertoire available at a much higher sound quality than existing downloads and free of digital rights management (DRM) restrictions?.

The important point to note here is the ?much higher sound quality? part. This means that EMI isn?t just going to offer DRM-free MP3?s, they?re going to add value to their content by offering music with much better sound quality than your average MP3 (and the difference is definitely audible, especially on decent audio systems - contrary to what some parts of the music industry are trying to convince you).

The retailers will be able to choose formats as they please: AAC, WMA, MP3 are all go. The pricing will be as follows:

?Apple?s iTunes Store (www.itunes.com) is the first online music store to receive EMI?s new premium downloads. Apple has announced that iTunes will make individual AAC format tracks available from EMI artists at twice the sound quality of existing downloads, with their DRM removed, at a price of $1.29/?1.29/£0.99. iTunes will continue to offer consumers the ability to pay $0.99/?0.99/£0.79 for standard sound quality tracks with DRM still applied?.

Here?s another snippet from the press release worth looking at:

?EMI Music will continue to employ DRM as appropriate to enable innovative digital models such as subscription services (where users pay a monthly fee for unlimited access to music), super-distribution (allowing fans to share music with their friends) and time-limited downloads (such as those offered by ad-supported services)?.

So, EMI is not ditching DRM altogether. I?d say that the real reason is all this being somewhat of a test to see whether selling DRM-free music works or not (and by works I mean bring huge amounts of money to the music industry). I reckon that, if all goes well, after a while they will simply switch to DRM-free music completely.

As I?ve said in the post below, this is a very important step forward that will give an entirely new shape to the digital music market - and it?s definitely a step in the right direction.

Microsoft to issue cursor flaw patch early

Microsoft said Sunday night that it is planning to make available this week a patch for a Windows flaw that has already been used in an attack.

Microsoft issued an advisory on the animated cursor flaw on Thursday. By Friday, malicious code was circulating that took advantage of the hole. (For more details, see the CNET Security Center, "Windows animated cursor attack.")

In an e-mail, Microsoft said it had originally planned to patch the flaw on April 10 as part of its regular monthly security update, but now it plans to release the patch Tuesday because of the public exploit.

"Since testing has been completed earlier than anticipated, Microsoft has released the update ahead of schedule to help protect customers," a Microsoft representative said in an e-mail.

The software maker said its analysis of the data suggests that "the attacks and customer impact is limited," but the company said that it encourages customers to download the patch when it is made available. Consumers that have Windows' automatic update feature turned on will get the patch automatically. The patch can also be downloaded manually.

Microsoft said it is working with law enforcement to track down the attackers.

Make XP secure.. they need to educate the users somewhat first.. Might as well try to plait fog!!

A serious bitch!
I'm sick to death of all the flamewars in the news comments.. Does every news story have to have it's own thread full of "^^what he said" "you know nothing" and worse posts?
At any mention in an article of the words HD-DVD.. Blu-ray, PS3, 360, there begins the same old flaming and slagging off.. always by the same old crew. I call them the "usual suspects".. we have bobby-blu and his cronies, and the gang of tossers who attacked me for one line "I think it's too expensive" I got so narked with that bunch of whining children that Neph had to step in and warn me about it.. Just as well I'm not a mod or I would have banned about 20 of em instantly.. kept a list and banned them again as soon as they came back..
It's well known what I like and dislike..
For the record.... I LIKE

Free software
free films
free anime pr0n
free wallpapers
dark windy winter nights
getting to bed before 7 am
people with brains (their own..not bought from "brains for zombies" site)
A nice meal
watching people fall over and hurt themselves
rain
swearing at my PC when I'm being stupid and failing to do something easy
shooting the crap out of some covenant on halo
throwing the odd sickie from work and being well enough to enjoy it
and some other stuff...

What I don't like

Manky smells emanating from the depths of the fridge
dog piss in the kitchen
stepping in same while wearing socks
fanboys
uneducated morons who try to sound clever
same who pick on members who have obvious difficulties
working when I want a day off sick
linux dvd applications
not being able to watch what i want on the TV
sunshine
school holidays
both the above together
tiny ps1 controllers
laddering my tights while out
nasty cheap lager in Wetherspoons
and some other stuff..

I hope that clears things up
