I got some of the Verbatim 16x at Best Buy today also. They are a great deal, even if they are made in Taiwan. Curcuit City has Sony 8x + or dash Yuden 002 tag. Made in Japan for 17.99 for 50. They burn at 12x with Nec or BenQ or LG to name a few writers.

How do these 16x DVD+R discs compare with the Verbatim 8x DVD+R (booktype DVD-ROM) which I have had good results with on my old Toshiba player?

The Verbatim 16x MCC code is pretty good. Don't listen to Movie27. He is a fool if he thinks its no good just because it is made in Taiwan. If you don't believe me then check out other posting!

Wow...you got me Movies27. Actually aren't you the one that use Memorex? I believe you one of your previous post that you use Memorex.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/161130
and that is well documented on Afterdawn.com that that is one of the worst DVD-R media out there. As always you seem to amaze me with your witty comeback and media knowledge.
REMEBER ALL VERBATIM IS NOT GOOD IF IT IS MADE IN TAIWAN!!!

im not even going to start adding fuel to the fire here, movies27, to state it lightly, please don't go ripping on media made in taiwan when you have NO experience at all with these verbatims. i am surprised you did not come back with another "fuji kicks ass" comment~
verbatims are almost ALL made in taiwan (few from singapore i have seen sold here in the U.S., which are btw, older stock) and they are VERY good media as i have had close to 1,000 burns on them already, the 8x dvd+r MCC003s that i booktype to dvd-rom every last one flawless. if you ever find a MADE IN JAPAN pack of verbatims (with proof), then i will forever shut my trap and not give ANY more advice to the DOZENS of members i've helped here with media~ :P
while i am not the one to judge on here, i can safely say that a LOT of people come to AD's dvd-media forum to find out and do some research before they go out and buy media at the stores, comments like "media made in taiwan isn't any good" is definitely WRONG and competely biased with NO evidence supporting it and i know at least 1/2 dozen senior and addict members on here that will jump down your throat on that comment~ many of the very wise and intelligent members on here use Ritek media with very good success, those are ALL made in Taiwan. every single of my verbatim spindles have been MADE IN TAIWAN as well, and MANY members agree i know what im talking about here in this forum because of my extensive trials and error on thousands of pieces of media~
just be careful what you say movies27, while personally i never really take the time to comment on your off-based opinions, don't lead newbies in the wrong direction by saying anything MADE IN TAIWAN sucks. you are doing a disfavor to the AD community and not helping anyone on here, which is MY only intent on here, to help others learn about media before they go and spend their hard earned money on it~
good day to you all~ these verbatim 16x are VERY good media, i have only used about 50 of these, but, they compare equally to my MCC003 dvd+r 8x media kprobe scans in quality and low errors~ good luck.

Havent you learnt anything yet, this is a forum where people come together to share there views and hopefully we are all better for it.
BUT
these little spats of yours when you dont get your own way or you think some ones had a go at you is getting quite tiresome.Cant you grow up and get along with us all.People this is a community ,a virtual home away from home, and yes it does have some minor rules
@ramada and Bezerker: you guys are only encouraging him
@kivory666: Thought you were leaving doc is this one of the last posts we will see from you big guy.
@ the others: have a nice day and sorry for my off topic remarks

I thought i heard Verbatim mentioned!..
..so thought i'd pop by and drop in a couple of comments.
I've not used any 16x as i'm a tad overstocked with blank 8x at the moment. However i have used many, many Datalifeplus 8x disks from Singapore, India (which i think are older stock - fine by me!) and a helluva lot from Taiwan. It has been common practice in the UK for many years for ppl to knock anything & everything 'made in Taiwan'; however i've certainly come to find that the Verbatim's are top notch, regardless of where they're made.
I don't use other media (yet) as i'm happy to stick with Verb's, and (boringly and predictably maybe) i will try out the 16x when i next need media and no doubt they'll be very good also. Saying that i will also be trying out other brands as i keep reading such good stuff from some of the Senior guys around here.
There's other media made in Taiwan that ppl say are very good but i'll leave them to comment if they so wish. As i say i'll be taking heed of their comments and buying accordingly.
I have started my own thread that includes some PI/PIF scans of Taiwanese Verbatim, but won't plug it here; the scans are very good indeed. Plus as Kivory666 says, there are quite a few ppl around here who have very good things to say about Taiwanese media.

nice deal but I'm weary of burning at 16x. I've read some issues about burns at 16x so I try to stay between 4-8x and have never had any issues personally so figure if it ain't broke it don't fix it.

i hear you; i would still only burn at 8x on 16x media, maybe even 4x for a while longer, just to be sure..

took me a while to find this, knew i'd seen it around here recently -
Quote: a response from Verbatim. Well here it is from the office in the US:
Dear Ron -
Sorry for the late reply. Somehow your correspondence was submitted to our Australian office.
To answer your question, there is no quality difference between our discs made in Singapore and the ones made in Taiwan. In fact, our Singapore facility is only making double layer media at this time, so any "made in Singapore" stock that you find must be fairly old.
We follow some of the Internet chat room stuff. Some true, some not. What you find are large assumptions based on very little data. We take DVD quality very serious at Verbatim - our name and reputation are very important to us, and key to our leadership position.
Thank you for being a loyal Verbatim customer.
Best regards,
Tim Clatterbuck

I think we should all give Kivory ( the post above ) a round of applause. That was a great post. Some people on this forum do not have the knowledge or the brains to give good advice. I agree some of the media made in Taiwan is not top notch, but it all depends on how the program you use and your burners read the media. I know some people who have used CMC without any problems. They have burned hundreds of discs without a coaster and some who have problems with top quality media. Its all about the burner and the program.

"Can't we all get along?" - Rodney King
No need for personal attacks. Just state your opinion and personal experience and let the rest of us judge for ourselves. But Verbatim is quality media. ;) As for Verbatim that is "Made in Japan", maybe the DVD+RWs which are made by the parent company and stamped "MKM". Other than that, almost all media (except authentic TYs) are "Made in Taiwan" now - quality media (TDK, Ritek, Sony) AS WELL AS CRAP (Infodisc, CMC Mag). If it's made in Hong Kong or China, it's probably crap. I can't judge Moser Baer (Made in India) because they have no history, but I'd guess it's 3rd rate.
