Store bought stuff still works fine, but these boot discs just dont. The CD one loads for a second, then i just get the PS2 browser screen, when i try to run the disc in it it just refreshes the browser. And when i run the DVD disc i just get that red "Insert a Playstation" blah blah blah screen. Please guys, what can i do? Or what am i doing wrong?

to be honest .......... no. There is something fishy about these 2 internal switches, im 100% sure that leaving them in the closed position for a long time tells the memory that something is not right. And to be honest, if it was this easy to foil Sony, why would they bother ....... At present im sure the only way around it is to chip. There are 3 chips out there as I know. These are the Matrix Infinity, the DMS4, AND the Crystal(I think!!). There is a new Infinity coming on the market this week.Im not to sure where you are in the world, but they are not being sold in the UK as the law has changed with reference to selling chips, now if you were in France or Germany you are allowed.... so much for being in the Common Market. The piece of metal comes out of the end where the stand screws into the body, the end with the 3 holes in.

I FIGURED IT OUT! I was getting pissed off and i started to experiment with the discs a little. Turns out if a controller is in the port, the disc wont load. Unfortunately it only works like 30% of the time. Better than nothing though. Give it a shot. However, im still just gonna get V3.3

Just been checking out this thread, as I've just bought a mini PS2 at the weekend and I fully intend to MOD the console. I'm waiting for my copy of Swap Magic 3 to come in the post before I start to get to work on it. Has anyone looked at the tutorial on www.ps2nfo.com yet? Their tutorial suggested taping over also one of the sensors or completely removing from it from the console entirely, but the other sensor had a toggle switch soldered to it to enable/disable it.

Has anyone tried this yet? Obviously I can attmept to blag returning the console if I've just glued or taped over the sensors and ended up rendering the console FUBAR. But somehow I dont think I'd get away with returning it to Toys R Us with a 1/4" hole drilled into the side of it to accomodate a toggle switch which I soldered to an internal sensor!

Anyone had any success with the PS2NFO method yet?

Just thought I'd add this in, it's from the PS2NFO website:

"We often are asked why wiring a Switch is necessary, and the answer to that is because in order to use the CD/DVD Loaders with your Swap Magic Discs for the 'problem' titles, you need to be able to perform both detected and undetected swaps... so simply taping both of the tray sensors will NOT work alone unfortunately. ;)"

So there you have it

It would appear that Sony may just have included a "booby trap" for those would be pioneer hackers that experimented with taping both sensors down. It appears as though you need to be able to toggle the sensor on the control board on/off to allow detected and undetected swaps to get around the problem and avoid knackering up your console.

Currently, their tutorial on how to use Swap Magic with different combinations of switch positions is still in progress. So keep an eye out for their updates. But if this makes it safe to adventure, I'm sure it'll be possible to figure it out via Trial and Error..... so it's out with the drill bit and soldering iron tonight to try it out.

Be warned though, some people have been lucky enough to be able to return their PS2's as faulty after taping down sensors and being ever so careful with their warranty sticker. The toggle switch workaround requires a 1/4" hole to be drilled in the case of your console to accomodate the toggle swtich. So there's no way in hell, unless Stevie Wonder is working the returns counter, that you'll be able to return your console as faulty if this goes wrong.

I'm proceeding at my own risk and I'll let you all know how it goes.

Okay, so it looks like you need to be able to do legit swaps and undetected to get Swap Magic working for the PSTwo, right?

So, instead of taping down the drive-detector switches or soldering new ones to the motherboard, why not remove the drive lid from the PSTwo and cut a hole out of the center of it? That way, you can pop it open when you need to do legit swaps, or just reach through the hole cut in the lid to do undetected swaps. And me, I'm more comfortable taking a hacksaw to a piece of plastic than playing around with solder.

If this does work, some industrious young Turk should get about to designing and selling E-Z swap replacement lids for the PSTwo.

NOTE: I have not tried this. I'm just asking if there's an obvious pitfall to this method.

hello, im new to this mod thing but i think i have a solution to all your problems. I used clear sticky tape on top of the white switch on the actual pstwo and for the cover sensor i cut out a small piece of paper which i then put clear sticky tape over, then i covered it over the cover sensor, my pstwo now play bought ps2 games and also backup games with the swap magic disc, give it a try.

I removed the lid without opening the PStwo... It kind of hard to do without scratching since you need to use a bit of force.
First remove the spring. There's a metal left of it which is quite troublesome.
Open the lid halfways and push it to the right very hard.
I heard Swap Magic 3.3 (?) doesn't need all this, which sounds odd. Anyone knows?
Can I use a regular swaptrick to do some PlayStation Driver exploit on a memory card? (something like the Independece exploit)
Aren't regular swaptricks very very bad?

hey,

i just want to say THANK YOU to miah, i read through this entire thread and all i foun dwas confusion, yes the tutorial with the pics is great, but you can get lost as it starts on with glue, BUT DO NOT USE IT. use clear sticky tape and paper, i done exactly what miah said, and its worked first time with all my copies and originals. Im very glad too, cuz i bought mine off eBay, and its not like i could of taken it back.

Once again thanks man.

zee2000uk,

If you've read through this and other forums, you'll have seen the problems that people are having after they have stuck down their sensors. Whether it's with Glue, electral tape, duct tape, clear sticky tape, sticky tape with paper.... whatever!!.... reports that have said that when both sensors are "tampered with" (i.e. covered or stuck down by what ever means), the PS2 will detect this. It will play a few times and then suddenly it wont read anything, o riginals or backups. The problem has nothing to do with your choice of adhesive used to stick the sensors down... the problem is that the playstation detects the discs being swap with the lid closed.

You PS2 will probably work and play everything with Swap Magic at first, but you may find in a couple of days that you wont be able to play your backups or your originals.

If you have bought it off EBAY you certainy wont be able to return it if this happens. I'm certainly not trying to put the frighteners on anyone. Just sharing the experience of people from other forums. I was about to attmept this, but decided to buy a DMS4 instead.

Please let us all know if this method is still working in a few days.

you have scared me there, i was wondering if the pstwo shuts down, which it hasn't yet and you then remove the sticky tape and paper will the ps2 works fine again, if not i might retuen the pstwo and buy a ps2 with a flips lid. Or do you think its worth keeping the pstwo hoping something will be made to overide the 'boobytrap?'.

Hi there, PLEASE listen to me, and all the other gamers out there, who are trying to give you advise. It is not possible AS YET to just tape up these dummy internal switches, after hours of research all over the WWW, the only way, AT PRESENT, is to chip your units.I have been intouch with The Team at Matrix Infinity, they have just developed a new chip, the present chip has a YELLOW DOT on it, the NEW CHIP will have a BLUE DOT on it, this new chip, will be compatable with the new V12 fireware. AS far as I know, the only people that will be selling it soon here in the UK, is www.gameworlddirect.co.uk go to them, but remember make sure you get the Matrix Infinity with the BLUE CHIP ........... IF I LEAD ANYONE ASTRAY IM SORRY, I HAVE RELATED TO YOU WHAT I HAVE FOUND OUT, AND I CAN PROMISE YOU THAT I WILL BE GOING THIS WAY WITH MINE.
Good luck ......... let me know!!

Hey,

that prevous post seemed a little bit like "Promotion", anyways thanks MOJ0J0JO for the info and everything, and i know i cant take it back, but i have now spent 2-3 hours with ALOT of different copies playing diferent ones, to make sure it works. And it is still running fine, Ive read that you cant have both switches down, because after a certain amount of time it tells the memory something is up and it stops you from playing ANY type of media.

Answer me this, what happens if a mega RPG gamer (which i am aswell), just sat there and played that one game for weeks, the lid would not open, and the switch would always be down, and the this "Booby Trap" kicked inn, what then???. I just cant imagine that sony could get away with it, everyone pays alot of money for these consoles, which gives them the right to play around with the inside if they wish. That does not give them the right to render people consoles useless, we will just have to wait and see, and i will post back in a few days with whats happened, i will be guted if my PStwo does stop working, but i still have my old PS2 that has been fine for me. (So i can still play my GTA:SA)

:-D

Dear Zee ........ Promotion, what ever. If you take a look who started this off you will see it was me.If you feel that you have done right, then good for you.But as you stated, you will be gutted, if yours goes wrong. With reference to Sony, of course they dont care if you mess yours up, after all ....... its your money not theirs.Im sorry if you feel that way.All I was trying to do is pass on my findings.Take it, or leave it !!Good luck with yours, I hope it keeps on working. Take care.

hi guy. i've a solution for all your problems. there is a simple way to not fall in the sony's boobytrap... haven't you ever tryed to stuck ONLY the switch near to on/off button. this can be easily made by a little piece of tape without opening the consolle and voiding the warranty. the internal sensor doesn't detect the tray opening if you don't lift it up over 1,5 - 2 cm. try it out! i know that if you have "big hands" the operation became hard but with a little pratice you can do it without problem... i'm playing my backup games without problem and when i need to play original games i remove the tape from the first sensor and turns on my pstwo with the tray opened resetting the time of the boobytrap!
Sorry for my english... i'm not a british boy ;)
tell me if you get it!

Bye!

Hey,

Well, its now been 2 days since i used the paper and tape, and it is working fine, i actually had to take the tape off the switch cuz it came off, and put a little piece on bluetac on it instead which keeps it down no problems, i havent had one single crash, error or malfunction, so all looks well :-D

I am even playing the new Smackdown Vs Raw on it, which is american (i live in the UK) and thats running great.

hello zee2000uk i am also from the UK and my ps2 is working fine with both backup and purchsed games, do you think it is posible that some pstwo's haven't got a 'boobytrap' and some have.

If anyone's got the answer please reply.

Thanks.

Hey,

To be honest i havent got a clue, maybe people have got confused with so many people having different problems, not to mention the amount of people who use glue etc.

Or maybe this has just been blown out of proportion, or maybe UK PStwo's are ok with it, i havent a clue, but i will keep posting back on weather my PStwo fucks up or not :-D
