I have only used my pc for the dvd archiving and quicken. I do have INCD and incd is a third cd drive run seperately from the main IDE slots on the MB, it is on an add on IDE card and I run 2 HD one for basic and the other for dvd. I had no problems and hadnt updated INCD for over a year, the problem started as soon as I ran the update for DVD decrypter. after that it was all down hill. I have also tried by removing the INCD disk and shutting down the program from the background, no changes.. I ran a syst restor on home xp and it found no changes. the only downloads I get are windows updates and dvd updates. The only suspicious thing now is that this seems strange is that around that same time the decrypter quit and dvd issue started was after windows updated itself with an update for malicious content removal, there is always the slight chance that that could have a part of this. I formated my syst 2 months ago and might have to do it again. I think the problem is embeded in the registry, I manualy clean it for known viruses and addware, but I wont go huniting for something I might realy screw up.

First I will uninstall shrink, decrypter and incd, reload and see if this helps.

Robert

I posted a reply in detail but it seems to get lost when I edited some spelling, In short, PC for dvd and quicken, 2HD 2DVD and 1 cdrom drives. CDROM drive for INCD and on an add on IDE card. Problem started around the time I made the last decrypter update, problems started. then next day windows auto update installed a malicious content removal update and then that is when the sh*& hit the can and was THE problem.

In short, Part 2. my syst is for 2 things with very little if no changes and updates, no excessive apps to keep syst running clean.
I have a laptop for any thing else.

shhiit they found us every body ruunn!!!!

ok now that that is out of the way

this is quite the intriguing problem seems to be wide spread I'm still kinda set on different circumstances and problem's being catagorized as one!

to settle this everybody having this problem tell what version they have and where they got it from!(dl source) nothing else just where the update came from and what version this will help!

The update came from the auto update settings in DVD decrypter. The home page is no longer available and so I ca not tell from where the update came from but there was one dowloaded and installed but it did not change the version number. I am not trying to take a paranoid possition on this. The only thing that makes me think is that there are no more updates for ShrinkDVD but you can still download it, DVD dcrypter is currently being removed from prior mirror sites and Lightning UK made a statement on his situation. The odd thing is that if the plantif has the app they are in a position to make some kind of move to block the trend. Getting rid of the app from other downloads sites is practicaly impossible but the chances of creating an update that could make life a little harder is possible. Yes, there is always the good chance that it may be a unrelated issue causing the problem, the only answere is wether or not it is starting to affect more people in relativly the same way. Us users with no programing skills need the help of those that do and or have some skills to help weed out the root of the problem. I am very thankful of any help that improves my situation, Copy protection is the odd point since I buy the old DVDs on sale and back those up. And I mean old ones that go years back in time before copy protection realy set foot.

Thanks for your time.

Robert

@TitaniumK this claim is in all reality a possible theaory and I was willing to prove it true or otherwise. I think that I read two users that need a firmware update and others that might have different issues.
I don't think this will be a postive thread no longer unless we validate this theory otherwise it just spreads rumors and starts panic in a crowd that is lacking in one way or another in knowledge about these issues or else they wouldn't be here!
there is a great deal of knowledge available here if one can access it.
personally I send ppl to betanews for dl here is the link> http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/DVD_Decrypter/1011845169/1

I know ppl who have gotten perfectly stable and fully functional versions here as recently as three weeks ago!
the functionality ie... update firmware, media i.d. and drive capabilities makes this an awesome tool.
I would definatly try uninstall re-install since you got the dl through the program

the author did tell of not updating through these means but I will try it out!

btw please remove your version of incd as this(as well as most packet writing software) causes conflicts w/several if not all burn engines! see if this helps the situatio at all!

I appologies if it seems like I might have taken an excessive stance on view, I will keep my mouth closed, I will try the link you posted and hope it helps. Best thing I can do is simply sit and watch and see waht others report on the web.

Thanks for your help.

Hello all. I tried one thing, simple thing I never thaught of. It doesnt fix the problem but sort of goes around it. In the settings of Decrypter under the device tab I selected the auto insert notification. Then reboot the syst and windows pop up window asked what to do every time this drive is loaded with this type of media and selected Decrypter. Now each time I stick a DVD in either dvd drives decrypter opens on its own and disk is recognized all be it that if I go to my computer and check each drive it is still not there. Maybe this is a way of getting around this problem for those that have a similar one.

Hello Rotary,
No, I did not uninstalled the DVDs drives. Do you think this is a good idea to do it? I'll will give it a try. I still wonder whether it's the operating system that caused this problem? Thanks.

TitaniumK, what's the CSS program you use to kill the protections? Is it AnyDVD? I meant when you set on the device auto detection. Thanks.

I was using DVD Decrypter with DVD Shrink, with the problems I then tried ANY DVD and clone dvd2. nothing worked. Just last night I found a sort of back door to the problem. In DVD Decrypter settings select auto insert notification. then when I load a DVD, windows asks me what program to use when I insert a dvd, I select DVD Decrypter and decrypter starts and the dvd is there and decodes good, this might be an easy way for some others with this kind of issue.

Hi,
Really bad. The "auto insert notification" in DVD Decrypter doesn't help. Yes, I have installed Interactual Player & uninstalled it too. Does this program caused this? Is there a tread in the registry that block the auto detection of DVDs? I have tried many other ways, including registry cleanup, install & uninstall of softwares and all came to no vail. I need help. Thank you very much for your kind thus far... I hope some one will come up with a solution soon.
Cheers...

elcarim, I am sorry that method did not help. There are lots of problems for lots of apps that can look very close to being the same but can be caused a by a root error that is differnt on an idavidual bases.

some times a problem can be fixed with a simple fix, but sometimes you have to wait and watch for a while till someone pops up with an identical instance. patience is the key. worst case option is a format a HD and reload windows and apps and they will run clean again but that takes time and patience as well. Personaly I format and reload once a year and it keeps the syst running very clean and smooth, but that is not always the answere for every one. the problem is that registry cleaners do not clean at 100%, only that that can be seen as 150% unrelated reg entries. Manualy cleaning takes a LOT of time but is very risky and you might cause more harm than good.

Bottom line is that you should continue the research on more than one site, all sites will have the same answere when the problem is either wide spread or very frequent. Each differnt site will have a unique answere that can be close to a particular problem.

The core problem in a case as this is that some where along the line a registry file was edited, alterd or corupted with out you knowing it. unistall reinstall ect. 10-20% of the time will not fix it. Sometimes you can find an alternate fix or back door to go around the problem, I found one and have been back up and running, in your case maybe not.

When you put a check mark in the settings in dvd decrypter for auto insert notification and rebooted and then put a dvd in did windows have a pop up window that asked you what to do by selecting and app to continue, if it did , did you select dvd decrypter, if it did not do you have the settings in windows settings set. double click my computer, right mouse click the dvd drive select properties, go to the auto play tab and select the drop down menue and select dvd then select fom the apps the dvd decrypter and select actions, select and action to perform. reboot and see if this helps.

@elcarim:

Have you tried a system restore?

It's a last ditch effort, but this situation seems to call for it.

Good Luck!

hello elcarim do not panic if you haven't already solved the problem let us know what you have tried it looked by your first post to be your drive does not recognize the media these have been copied to! have you done the update to your firmware via DVD Decrypter or by other means!!!

just open decrypter in file mode and right click on your drive towards the bottom of the drop down box there will be an option that say's check for firmware updates!
try this and report back only want to try one thing at a time as I think konfused1 is just one of many!lol
