I insert the DVD, Ice Princess, and the computer does nothing. When I open my computer, it appears that there is nothing in my D drive (DVD drive). Also, DVD Decrytper & DVD Shrink do not recognize a DVD in the DVD Drive. My drive is the Lite-On DVD-RW, Im running XP home.
thanks

first I would try cleaning the disk. making sure there are no smudges or fingerprints...... or scratches! if you computer doesn't acknowledge the disk after that then try a re boot! Oh, by the way, is this a store bought DVD or is this a copy of the movie? If it is a copy it's possible that your drive won't recognize the disk cause of the disk itself! Or it was burned improperly (not closed) or you drive needs a firmware update. These are the possiblities!

This is a store bought DVD. What is the most effective way of cleaning a disc with limited supplies? Windex has been recommended.

I use Jewlery cleaner!~ you know...... it cleans jewlery and also you can clean windows with it and it won't fog up in humidity! Works wonders on DVDs! I never tried windex but I'm sure that could work! Just don't use anything with a solvent in it ...... that could start to deteriorate the plastic!

I am having the same problem but i seriously suspect that i did not close the DVD. is it trash now or can i still closit and make it work?
I burned it in a diffrent machine since i do not have a burner, my machine does not even see it. thinks that it is blank. when i put it in the machine i burned it in, all is well.
Ihoe suggested not closed properly is there a way to close it?

I clean my discs by putting under tap water cold and then a drop of dishwashing liquid gently clean by just rubbing the fingers, rinse and dry with paper towel. works freat all the time.

about cleaning--don't rub with fingers! take a terri towel (or something that is very soft and won't leave scratchs) and gently wipe from inner rim to outer rim in a straight line (do not rub or wipe vigorously in a circle!).

about closing the disk..... it all depends on your software! Some software allows you to add more files to the disk and then you can close at anytime! what software are you using? I'm not an expert at that cause I use software the finalizes the disk right away after the movie is backed up. I know that Sonic Record Now has a utility that finalizes the disk! Maybe Nero has that, too? I don't know! but you should use the program that you recorded it with and check to see if it has that command! FINALIZE DISK. Worth a try.

Hi Guys,
I was searching the net ecause of a similar problem. I bought lots of DVD's whil on holiday (OK not exactly store bought!), anyway several of them have this effect.
Are you sure it's not a software prevention thing?

hi guys.. have the same problem. my laptop combo drive cannot play dvd's anymore though it can play VCD and audio. The dvd i used previously worked in it, now it cant. no scratches on the dvd, after inserting the dvd, light flashes from the drive, flashes then no autoplay is executed. when exploring the drive, sometime you can see the files of the dvd, sometimes you cannot. tried several dvd's which worked but now nothing works. please disregard any software problems coz ive installed a fresh copy of the software. need help. thanks

This is most unusual.
Could it be that there is a problem with the installation?
Or maybe the software drive have to be upgraded?

well it sounds more like bad media to me! Just because it worked previously doesn't mean it will work forever!!!! Bad media does that! Works.... then it goes to crap! What manufacturer ID are your disks? If they are store bought disk then I would send it back for a replacement..... and also try to update your firmware!!! Just my 2 cents!

Least but not last...
Try it on another player and see what happens.
If it plays than there´s a serious problem with the brand of your player.
Another thing...check if your player is good to play + or - or only + or -
Sometimes we buy things and forget to rad the label. 8>)

Hey IHoe
These are copy disks I bought Thailand, most are fine, but there's a couple that will only work on an ordinary DVD linked to the TV, but refuse to be seen by any computer I've tried.
Tried all the normal things like AnyDVD to no avail, Nero just reports them as having a media error, however if this was true they wouldn't play on a normal dvd player would they?

Ihoe:
It seems to me that there´s a REGION problem.
Would DECRYPTER remove the REGION and than re-compile it to his correct region?

I think that you need something that read that regions code.
I don´t know where U R located, but look in the yellow pages for some rental equipment, and go from there.

Similar problems. It's not DVDs from stores & they are from Thailand. The DVD drives (PC) just cannot detect them - either it's BLANK or INSERT A DISK. In normal stand alone home DVD player, they are OK, fine & playable. Believe these DVDs have a new protection encodings to prevent copying. Does anyone out there knows how to crack it? Thanks heaps.

Hello All,

I have been tracking this issue for 2 weeks. Store Baught DVD's will no longer be read and are not recognized on my Plextor and Sony drives. DVDDecrypter and DVD shrink are now inop. I went as far as to get AnyDVD and my sittuation improved by a chance of 1 out of 5 tries now. I found an article written by LightningUK, DVDDecrypter's creator, who is now out of the game due to legal issues, the plantif is now in control of that program, UK made one small note at the end of his message, It was a tip to not update the DVDDecrypter program. I have this uneasy feeling that that update was not created by himself and that It places a code change on a PC's core files that changes the game in thier favor. the clue is that a DVD does not exist unless a DVD program such as Intervideo is opened then it will open the Movie with no glitches.

I could be mistaken, but I think that the Movie companies have found a new means of so called protection other than kown copy protection installed on the DVD, It might be one that Is now installed any PC.

If I am inccorect, please inform my to change my current view on this strange new problem.

P.S I also tried to fix the problem by upgrading the firmware, No improvements.

Robert

hi

@ TitaniumK

interesting story there, i have a firewall and if anything wishes to phone home from my pc it asks me if i want to let it out. you never know there could be something in it re dvd decrypter? but yours is the first thread i have read saying you have this problem...

have you checked your DMA in device manager (all set to on?)

uninstall and then reboot your pc, then try a dvd, as for 2 drives not to play a dvd seems mighty odd...and leads me to think its the pc.

you may have to many apps trying to access the cd drives all at once or even the dvd itself... to hinder play back. things like region free apps like anydvd etc or dvd43...

just a thought but do you have incd from nero loaded or packet writing software

Nothing here to see, move along folks.

Hi Rotary & TitaniumK,
I have upgraded the LG writer's firmware, "on" the Device Manager & rebooted, etc... and they all don't help. I think it's not DVDdecrypter or DVDshrink. I have tried on a friend's PC running on Window2k with a SONY writer... all went well... every single DVD. All the ripped DVDs run fine on my PC running on WindowXPpro. Now, the question is, is there any thing to do with these two O/Ss??? Can you try and check them out, please? Thanks.
