Just an update on the DVD43 and Nero combo...backed up with no probs. Still waiting on the AnyDVD disco to kick back up. My new one, two, three punch will probably be AnyDVD/Nero/Imgburn.

DVD43 with Any Combo of Shrink , Nero Recode2 or Clonedvd2

I also tried ripping it to the HD with DVD Fab Decrypter and got it to work with Shrink Recode2 & Clonedvd2

AnyDVD & Any Combo of the programs above

or DVD Decrypter to a Dir and then use VOB Blanker to fix the protection problems then Shrink or others to compress

2OldGeek: Thanx for the heads up for doing the same stupid thing twice when using decrypter and Nero recode. Since I have AnyDVD I can't imagine why I was using decrypter and recode together. I will also have a new external dvd burner for Xmas. Will I be able to burn directly on the fly?

Hi, after reading much praise about AnyDVD throughout the threads, I downloaded it to copy Madagascar. However I get an error stating: DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Out of memory, not enough storage is available to process this command. It always occurs at 74% encoding. I am using DVD Shrink to compress and rip and DVD Decrypter to burn with AnyDVD running in the back ground. I have an 80Gb hard drive with 83% of resources free. I have 512mb ram. An average of 37 processes running in background. I'm using AnyDVD version 5.6.3.1, DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15 and DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 I have ripped the movie with DVD Decrypter to my hard drive as an Iso, but cannot compress with DVD Shrink as the file is invisible, shrink does not recognize Iso's. I also ripped it as a file and shrink does recognize it, but I get yet another error stating: DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. " Invalid data in file C:madagascar\video_ts\vts_08_1.vob" Both rips are still saved on my hard drive. What am I doing wrong? I don't understand why I wouldn't have sufficient storage, as I have the movie saved on my hard drive in two different formats right now. 2oldgeek spoke as though he has no problems when using DVD Shrink with AnyDVD running in background. Can someone help me?, Please...

Save up and purchase AnyDVD & CloneDVD. They work perfect. I've burned 300+ DVD's w/ this combo. I prefer shelling out a few extra bucks for such problem-free performance.

@garmoon,
Yes, you can burn on-the-fly if you have 2 drives, one to read and one to burn. But don?t get carried away, keep the burning speed very low 4x or less to insure you don?t over run your buffer. That is, writing faster than you can read and running out of data..

@RainLvr,
I use Nero to burn the files but, you can use DVDDecrypter to burn if you tell DVDShrink to use ISO and burn with DVDDecrypter. Just remember to use AnyDVD in the background when using Shrink??

Hey! I got a raise! Looks like I'm a "MEMBER" of AD now......

P.S. RainLvr,
You are able to open ISO files made with DVDDecrypter in Shrink by going to File -> Open Disc Image..... Don't use Open File or Open Disk..

Thanks so much for your replies.
2oldgeek, I have tried your suggestions but without luck. I get the out of memory error at 74% encoding just as when I tried using DVD Shrink directly... Were you able to copy Madagascar complete disc, including menus and extra's? I think Madagascar is longer than other movies or something. This one movie just refuses to copy.

DVD Shrink hasn't been updated since August 2004. You will likely need to use AnyDVD in conjunction w/ DVD Shrink. Haven't actually copied that DVD, just a educated (somewhat) guess.

@RainLvr,

Sounds like maybe you don?t have enough RAM to process the whole movie before running out.. How much RAM you got?
Try turning off all the running programs on your tool bar, IE. Virus scan, Firewall, Spyware Blockers, etc. and see what happens..

And yes, My Baby can process anything I through at her. She's got a GB of RAM and 390GB HD space....

@2oldgeek OK, Thanks, I will try turning everything off. I have 512 ram, 80gb hard drive, it says that 83% of my resources are free. Should I add more ram? If one Gb ram is sufficient for 390gb hard drive wouldn't 512 be for 80gb hard drive?

This isn't the first time I've said it and won't be the last but AnyDVD is probably the best investment you can make. Can use in background with Shrink and burn disc or create ISO and burn. Also can use with Decrypter if want to save decrypted movie to HD and then shrink, reauthor or whatever. I got CloneDVD2 as well but still playing with it regarding options it has over shrink. Of course I'm not in a position where I have to watch my pennies and can't speak for those for whom $29 to $36 (US) would mean a big investment. Been there in my younger days and resisted buying a program as long as Shrink and Decrypter worked. No one can gaurentee anything forever today so have to have some faith that Slysoft will be around for awhile. Still if you think about it those of us that do this as a hobby (?) or whatever are shelling out a significant amount of legal tender for our originals, burners, blank DVDs so unless you are doing something else that is not quite ethical then you don't belong here. This includes giving out activation codes for software. Just my 2 cents.

To err is human, to really screw up.....use a computer.

@RainLvr,
Your system Should be able to handle any movie with no problems..
Are you running AnyDVD or DVD43 in the background??
Try that, but just one of them they don?t like each other very well?.

Decrypter to HD/anydvd in background/vobBlanker to take out whatever i don't want/shrink to compress and IMGburn to burn is my way to go. it does take a little long, but it works 100% of the time.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

The size of the hard drive is not what predicates the amount of ram. It is the processes that you are running. Windows XP operating system will gobble up to 128mb to run. Your DVD drive will eat up ram to run (my LG minimum requirements are 512mb), so you could be using that much as well, probably more like 128mb, depending on your drive. So there is 256mb gone of your 512 without running any programs at all.

All this to say that while yes 512mb will be enough to make a backup DVD you would be better off in the long run to upgrade to a gig or more. With the price of ram coming down all the time, it is a wise investment.

Cheers.

Just a few comments on my feelings about burning a disc:

I only use the DVDShrink/AnyDVD combo to Decrypt/Shrink/Rip and either Nero or DVDDecrypter/ImgBurn for the burn..

Shrink is a Ripper and Shrinker so no need to rip first..
AnyDVD is a decrypter so no need for DVDDecrypter with it.
ImgBurm will tie its new Burn engine to Decrypter so you can tell Shrink to burn with Decrypter and it will use the New engine from ImgBurn.
With the start/end function in Shrink you can trim any blanks that show up and there?s no need for VobBlanker.

If you can?t afford or just don?t Want to pay for AnyDVD then use DVD43 it?s Free and will work on all the new movies that are out right now..

I try to cut as many corners as I can without jeopardizing the outcome and this method has worked for me. Not to say it will work for you or that there is No other combo that won?t work as well.. A Man?s gotta Do what A Man?s gotta Do! LOL

Have a Happy!

to answer 2oldgeek.
1)anydvd for those movies that shrink cant handle(ARccoSS, ripgard)otherwise, decrypter only.
2)why decrypting first, leave the ripping to the rippers, decrypter is the best at it. this way all shrink has to do is to compress. less effor for shrink= better resolts.
3)start/end on shrink is for main movie-only, i'm speaking of entire movie. vobBlanker is much better than shrink when it comes to reathoring.
4)i know shrink is a decrypter and a ripper, i just let the true ripper(decrypter) do what it does best, the best decrypter there is (anydvd)do what it does best and the compressor(shrink)do what it does best.
i try to avoid using FabDecrypter.

Nero Recode2 or Shrink using deep analysis and AEC/ fabdecrypter or anydvd running in the background/ IMGBurn to burn/main movie only mode= perfect.

@elizerroj,
Respectfully, this OldGeek wasn?t seeking an answer because he has been around long enough to remember that DVDShrink was originally written to be a Ripper/Decrypter/Shrinker without the need for a separate Ripper/Decrypter. Only until the newer protections came out and it became outdated was it necessary to use DVDDecrypter, which is a Ripper/Decrypter without the ability to Shrink. Now that AnyDVD, just a Decrypter, has came on the scene, there is no longer the need for a separate Ripper. Unless you are a masochist LOL

P.S. I haven?t had a coaster in so long that I?ve thought about buying some MemoSux just so I can remember why I don?t use them anymore????

Have a Happy.
