9mmruger1, Thanks for your reply/info. On average I have about 37 processes running according to my task manager. I guess I need to visit Crucial.com and update my ram in general. I actually have two drives, a dvd combo and a dvd burner, most often though I don't put the blank disc into the burner until prompted. I assume that both are still running however. Is that relevant to my problems with Madagascar, you think?

2oldgeek, Congrats on being pushed up to member... I am running AnyDVD... I tried turning off all the programs in my taskbar as you suggested, security ect.,. No luck, still get out of memory error at 74% encoding completed exactly as before. I've checked to make sure I have the current versions of my programs. DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15, DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 with AnyDVD 5.6.3.1 running in background. And so if my system hd and ram are not the problem, then probably I just need to add Imgburn? Though I do need to add more ram in general, I don't think it's the sole culprit. I have the entire dvd copied to my hd in two different formats as we speak. DVD Shrink just cannot shrink it to fit a 4.7gb disc. The movie Iso. file is 7,822,272kb, I can get only to 1,691,462kb there of with DVD Shrink before the error pops up. Most movies are about half that size, I think.
I just hope that Madagascar is the only movie I have this problem with. Just DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter was all I needed before... Should I get Imgburn as well? If so where? Thank you so much for your patients as well as your clear instructions, as sometimes understanding instructions can be far more difficult than figuring it out on ones on... Thanks

What media discs do you guys prefer? I was reading some other threads that totally diss Memorex. Can using this brand damage my drives or are there just too many duds? My burner supports dual layer burning but the discs are outrageously expensive here, I'd do better to buy a second copy of the movie.

Memorex is frowned on as the quality generally produced by CMC-Mag is subpar.

Highly recommended is Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxells.

RainLvr, sounds like your using Decrypter and AnyDVD to rip the disk. This may be your downfall if you don?t have Decrypter set for use with AnyDVD. In DVDDecrypter go to: Tools -> Settings -> I/O tab under Interface set to: ElbyCDIO ? Elaborate Bytes then under General tab: uncheck the Check for structure Protection and try again.

Or like I did, with no problems what-so-ever, turn on AnyDVD, start DVDShrink open the disk and re-author for movie only and set to burn with DVDDecrypter.

If you want to Rip first, then use my first suggestion about setting up Decrypter to work with AnyDVD.

Try that and for the Love of anything but Crap, DON?T USE MEMOREX!

Let us know???

For those interested, here is a little addendum to my feelings on burning discs.

Never Shrink or Compress a disk.. Always keep 100% so the quality remains. Use Movie only for a DVD-5 and if you just Have to have the whole thing, use a DL DVD-9.
It?s a misnomer to think that you are shrinking or compressing a movie to fit a smaller disc. Bytes are 1?s and 0?s they have no space between them and therefore cannot be compressed. You are able to compress a 10lb marshmallow to fit in a 5lb bag cause it has a lot of air, but you cannot stuff a 10lb bowling ball in a 5lb bag without chipping or cutting a lot of the quality from it thereby loosing quality that cannot be replaced no matter how much analysis is done on it?.

IMHO,
Not That Old

@2oldgeek

So are you saying that you never backup a movie that you cannot get 100% compression on? How is your eyesight anyway...LOL

My eyesight is so damned good that anything less than 100% is shitty to me!!!!
If you can watch those fuzzy movies and think the're OK then, What's wrong with your eyesight?????

Respectfully.

@ Too Old Geek
Hey Old Guy, I've got a question... Earlier in this thread we discussed adding ram/memory. I doubled mine as suggested, to the max. that my pc will hold 1024gb, two 512 cards, but when I right click my computer and go to properties, it shows only 0.99gb Is this normal?

RainLvr,
Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner but, my puter been in the hospital....

Most of the time 1024Mb will show up a little smaller. Just depends on the puter and how it uses the RAM. Mine has 1024 and shows as 998.

No big deal...

Thanks for your reply. Sorry to hear about your puter... Hope it wasn't too serious. It's wierd, nothing is what it says when it comes to a computer. You have 1024 ram, it says 0.99, you have a 80GB hard drive it says 68.9Gb... (laughing) I just wanted to check with someone else as I installed it myself. I'm trying to learn to do things for myself these days... Again, much thanks.

Not too serious, just cost me $70 to get it straightened out?

One thing I wrote on the wall in Red Crayon ?Never clone a Hard Drive with Norton Goback running. Cause it will screw up your Bios and then Nothing will work right!? LOL

Anyway, I have been working with computers since the mid 1960?s and I learn something new each day?..

Just remember, all programs and people don?t figure the same way. One thousand Bytes is 1000 bytes and one Kilobyte is 1024 Bytes. The two methods are mixed and confused.. LOL

@ Too Old Geek Mid 1960's? WOW! I wasn't even born.... (Laughing) No wonder you know so much.
So, tell me, why would one need Nortons Goback, when there is Windows restore? Goback came with my Nortons internet security system and system works but I disabled it thinking I wouldn't need it, having system restore and all. Also, thats that much more space and ram added to what system restore is already utilizing. Or am I totally wrong again?
Always Learning...

@ RainLvr, It?s just a matter of preference. I like the way Goback handles things better than I do with Restore.
The main reason that I use it is for the Safe Try Mode.
Also, you can turn Restore off and not use the extra space?

It has it?s faults, but so does Restore.. LOL

@ Too Old Geek
One can't argue with that!
There are so many different like products on the market today it gets confusing... Everytime you think you've got the best of something, you read about something ten times better the next day. Thats the whole story when it comes to a computer, once you buy, it becomes obsolete, and no matter how much you spend upgrading, there is always something more out there.... Progress in technology, you gotta love it! I just try to stay with the basic needs for the most part. Guess thats why you know how to clone your hard drive, and i'm still learning to install ram... Have a great day OLD guy!
