I recently started burning DVD's and my only problem is the length of time it takes. I have tried DVDClone and and few other trial versions and they all take hours and hours (5+) to read and burn. My DMA settings are

Primary Channel:
Device 0
Device Type Auto Detection
Transfer Mode DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode Ultra DMA Mode 5

Device 1
Device Type Auto Detection
Transfer Mode DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode Not Applicable

Secondary Channel
Device 0
Device Type Auto Detection
Transfer Mode DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode Ultra DMA Mode 2

Device 1
Device Type Auto Detection
Transfer Mode DMA if Available
Current Transfer Mode PIO Mode

My computer is
HP xt948
Pentium 4 1.60 GHZ
256 MB Ram
Windows XP

My burner is a HP dvd740 16X External

If anyone can please let me know what I can do to speed up the process that would be great! Thank You

Ammy

This is a very simple/basic guide showing "how to enable DMA back On by uninstalling the driver(s)". This will solve your DMA issues nearly 99% most of the times, unless you're the few that has a Nvidia driver, then I can't help you. You'll need to google on the net for an answer on that.

Enjoy it!!

WARNING: Do not "update/upgrade" your SAMSUNG BD-D5XXX series (Bluray Player), or else you cant enjoy any of your movie files.

Thats an excellent Guide Alkohol - thnxs alot for it :)

Just two things you forgot to mention

1. If your operating system is contained on the primary IDE Controller then don't uninstall it!!

2. When you uninstall an IDE channel the advanced settings tab may disappear(though this doesn't mean that the DMA problem hasn't been corrected) - you can use an app like Intel Application accelerator to check the DMA settings for your drives. And I presume(though I haven't tested this) that if you Re-install SP2 it will update this tab again.

3. Using 40 Cable connectors on your drives you won't be able to go past UDMA mode 2, with 80 Conductor cables my drives go upto UDMA 5
