I have recently had a problem with dvd shrink not backing up my movies
it sarts aout just great but when I go to back them up the estimated time is 24-48 hours.I have removed the program the reinstalled it several times but it doesnt help.I also went into the primary and secondary drivers and removed them from the itaa???? {i read about it in one of the other forums in here}it worked all the way up to the last 10 seconds of backup the stopped again.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks

Can you provide us with your system specs. Ram, processor, drive, etc.

If you have already done the DMA check we need more to go on.

Cheers.

Have you defragmented your hard drive lately. Sometimes this will help.

Have you checked DMA status of the drive? You may been running in Pio mode which is a common explanation for this type problem.

Run Virus Scan, Spyware Scan (twice using diferent anti-spyware programs), Adaware scan.
Check Task Manager to see if other processes are running that could use resources and slow you down.
Double check the Pio issue as that is what it sounds like is the problem.

Would next find a utility to check hard drive speed, burner speed, and RAM memory. Something is bogging you down.

Make sure you have checked all IDE controller/channels for DMA, both the primary & secondary of each. It looks like you have check only one.

Go for prior recommendation to find a utility to check hard drive speed, burner speed, and RAM memory. Something is bogging you down.

I too am having a slow down with DVD Shrink ver 3.2. I have an Athlon 64 X2 4400 processor, 1 gig PC3200, two physical SATA drives... and i too am getting a slow down. It all happened around the time I ripped War of the Worlds 2005 that I got from Net****. There was some type of app that loaded onto my computer. When I ran DVD Shrink I suddenly noticed my computer had slowed down to about 2,000 KB/s when before it run up to 9,000 on some disks. CPU usage was 100% on both cores (AMD Power Meter) when before usage was well below 50%. I brought up the Task Manager and it has changed so that you can only see programs running in a small box and nothing else. The only buttons are 'end task' 'switch to' and 'new task'. Also after DVD Shrink has ended a process is still running that is using 50% of both cores and I must restart my computer to end it. I switched back to DVD Shrink ver. 3.1.1 and the burn rates are back up to the 6,500 range and cpu usage is back below 50%. My Task Manager is still effected. What should I do? Do I need to re-install windows? Did this phantom app come imbedded in DVD Shrink that had been hacked and posted by Sony? Did the app come from Net****? I can not find anything with virus scans or spyware scans.

Also I am using Nero 7 that was free when I purchased my AMD processor as my burning program. Also I just found my task manager problem, what ever app was running placed my Task Manager screen in "tiny foot print mode" and I have corrected this problem.

I too have had issues with DVD Shrink after backing up war of the worlds about a week ago. It freezes intermittently now and I have to restart my machine via power off button to get it going again and my notebook is running slower than usual. Any ideas? I haven't noticed a problem with my task manager tho but will go and check this again.

Uninstall Shrink. Then Download Crap Cleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/) and run all the utilities: Analyze and clean crap then analyze looking for "issues". Spy check, Virus check, and eliminate DMA issues as discussed above. Then reinstall Shrink.

I'd give my right arm (kinda) if I had the know how and guts to do that! I've always had to give it to someone who knows far more than me to sort out my computer probs, but I'd love to give it a go!!! Need to find someone to hold my hand tho ;)

Better idea is to use a drive imaging program like Norton Ghost
(there are others). I create a hard drive image back up every 90 days (some do it every month or sooner). That way I can reformat C: drive and restore the imagea, putting computer back to a time when things were going well. Takes much less than four hours. I back My Documents every week.

well newbie is wot I am, but I defo backup my documents every week, I've never used Norton Ghost but wouldn't I need loads of hard drive space to copy the whole drive? I've only got about 25gb left and the drive is partitioned. This is probably in the wrong thread now too! Thanks for all the advice tho.

You copy the image onto blank DVDs, not the hard drive. External or network drives would be other choices, but none of these alternatives results in loss of space on C: drive.
