they are non-hubs and they print better than the Maxell. The surface is smoother and shinier.

jasper44: How'd you get the weekly ads this quick? LOL
Where'd you get the Office max sale info?
What about Office Depot?

I will be needing some more media sunday. Looks like a tossup between those Office Max verbs and Best Buy Yuden000-T02.

Playo 50-Pack DVD+R/-R-$4.94 --HAHA, what the hell is this crap?
Was that with a rebate?
If so,anybody wanting that rebate better look away. I purchased those same Playo +r 8x at staples the day after thanksgiving and still waiting for that rebate. If next weeks sale is like that,then it's not an easy rebate,but a rebate going straight through the playo corporation.
The MID code from those playo +8x was: AML-002. They burned and played ok,but had some horendous PI/PO scans.All 3 of my benqs will burn anything.

I get them early because my dad works for The Sacramento Bee. I should have Office Depot and Circuit City by tomorrow. Also the Playo is an instant rebate.

hub and non-hub are refering to printable media. If it is hub printable that means it goes all the way to the center circle. Non-hub goes about 45mm from the center of the disc (a bigger circle in the middle).

I believe the Maxell made in Japan are excellent. Not sure about the shiny/non-shiny surface other than they are non-printable.

BTW: this seems to be a pretty good deal on 16X Verbatim Non-Hub Printables:

http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_i...

.36 cents (.40 cents with shipping for 100). Hard to find good +R's printables for under .50 cents. Especially hub printables.

Catfreak and others convinced me to switch to +R and booktype. So I bought the BenQ DW1655 (which I've been very happy with), and now I'm going to try the booktyping thing. Really wanting to see what my first +R scan on Verb's is going to produce.

"Playo" is Made in China. Playo to Me will be No Buyo for sure o! I don't think they would be worth a dime Myself. I'll stick with Verbs and MIJ Sony & Fuji. Ask docTY~ if He would use Chinese Media. Not!

Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

my answer to that is MOST DEFINITELY NOT~! it's one thing to use media "made in taiwan" (which MOST single layer Verbatims are and they are VERY good quality media), however, when you start using media made in more obscure countries where the quality control is "not quite up to par" if even existent at all, that is where you will be running into trouble~ :) (ie. made in china, made in hong kong, made on mars :P)

Hi everyone, I'm a forum newbie that has been backing my own personal movies up for over a year and have never seen a bad Sony 8x -R made anywhere MIT, MIJ or otherwise. These I find are the most reliable disc on the market 2nd is Verb's 8x which are also made in Taiwen or Singapore. Now +R's SONY is a whole different story. I've read here and identified them as Tayo but it the 3 spindles I have owned, it has been coaster city, fried frisbie, etc. I've never used actual per name brand Tayo, but they don't make good SONY +R disc? I dodge Memorex, TDK, Princo, +R anything if I can. (not always compatible even when book-typed?)Except DL and All house brands. I'll be over to BB for them SONY -R though:b

Those non-hub printable Verbatims from Sam's differ from other brands on the center hole diameter it's 36mm.So they print a little closer to the hub than other non-hub printables.

Hope that helps.

paiger651 - thanks! Thats good to know. I'm going to check the ones I get tomorrow and see how far out they are. If they're 45mm out, than I'll probably pick up some at SAM's also and try them.

Hi buck, the instant rebate is on the website but I called my local officemax a few mins ago and the guy told me there were no instant rebates on the verbatim 16x's and that they were listed at 39.99. More than likely they'll go on sale this sunday when the ads are released. I'm going to call another officemax to find out more.

I just read the ads for Sunday (get them on Saturday via Washington Post), OD has the 100-pk (+/-), regular $59.99 for $34.99. Doesn't say anything about it being a mail-in rebate. Best Buy has the Sony +/- 50-pk for $14.99. They also have Verbatim +R 30-pk LightScribe discs for $24.99.

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned the 1GB flash drive. Best Buy has the 1GB USB 2.0 drive (made by PNY) regular price of $109.99, minus $60.00 instant rebate and $10.00 mail-in rebate for a net price of $39.99. Noticed a 1GB one in Costco the other day for $46.00. OD has a 2GB Cruzer brand for $69.99 after $34.00 instant rebate and $12.00 mail-in rebate.

Hi guys, I know that some of the Sony 8x DVD+R's are MIJ and MID Yuden. But apparently the the 16x's that will be going on sale tomorrow via BB aren't MIDed Yuden but instead SONY16D1....(videohelp.com).

What class of media is SONY16D1? I'm certain that the 50pk Sony 16x DVD+R spindle going on sale at BB tomorrow are MIJ, but I don't think they are Yuden's. Do you guys have any info on the SONY16D1 MID?

Okay I think I've figured this out a bit. Correcting me if I'm wrong.

1ST CLASS MEDIA
Almost flawless burns with 95-100% reliable results:
PVC = Pioneer (Japan) = (-R)(-RW) ... media is no longer made
MXLRG0x = Maxell (Japan) = (-R)(-RW)
YUDENT, TYG0x = Taiyo Yuden (Japan) = (-R)(+R)
MCC, MKM = Mitsubishi Chemicals (Singapore/Taiwan) = (-R)(-RW)(+R)(+RW)
TDK, TTG0x, TTH0x = TDK Corp (Taiwan/Japan) = (-R)(-RW)
SONY0xD = Sony (Japan/Taiwan) = (-R)(-RW)

SONY16D1 <--- Is this the same as the Sony (Japan/Taiwan) listed in bold. If so, then tomorrow's BB sale of the 16x 50 pk spindle should be 1st class media. Right? Hmmm...now that I think about it the bold letters doesn't list (+R) media, so maybe this may not be right.
