Quote: I just saw a 2-day President's Day sale on CompUSA for 100 DVD+/-R's for $20. Should I go for it?
what brand is it? compusa's own house brand...? if that's the case, then NO, save your $20 and get some GOOD media...so many 50-packs of GOOD MEDIA is available for $14.99 as this thread implies...in THIS particular case, 100 spindle for 20 bucks IS NOT A GOOD BUY if it's the compusa house brand dvds...
just lettin ya know, before it's too late...
docTY~
p.s. @thelox, right on there...TDK does NOT belong in 1st class media IN MY OPINION, i just had to laugh when i saw someone actually POST that up...

my bad..lol hahahaha
yeah, i truly despise TDK's own manufactured media, but, hey, that's just ME...not like i've ever helped ANYONE get back to burning successfully again once they got rid of the "crap media" that i suggest... :)
docTY~~
btw, for 16x rated media, updated FIRMWARE for your drive is of the UTMOST importance, without it, you'll be up the creek without a paddle~ :)

A friend of mines bought some of those Compusa disc and I think the media code was princo and they weren't that good at all. The backups he made all skipped. He's actually going buy the officemax brand disc over the verbatims tomarrow.
Anyway I'll pick up another spindle of verbs. My lightscribe drive will be here this week so I'll probably pick up that 30 pack too.

tmfloria:
Great link on those playos. All those remarks were around the thanksgiving day after sale. I wander if those yahoos got their $15 rebate, LOL
Gins:
I agree with the rest about those Comp USA discs. $20 a hundred pack-risky? That's why I keep an eye out on Office Depots brand media sale. They have been as low as 20 cents each in a special buy1/get 2 free promos. The 8x speed are riteks-g-05 and R-03. The plus 16x are Ricohjpn-r03. My benqs love those OD R-03's!

A few years back I had a spindle of CompUSA CD-RW's. Those lasted a few months. I'll never buy ANYTHING with CompUSA's name on it!

Well folks, I just came home from Best Buy/Circuit City. I was able to find 2-50 pack DVD-R sonys MIJ and I had 2 10% off coupons. Therefore, I was able to pick up the 2 for 28.33(includes tax). Then I thought to myself, why not try Circuit City. I drive across the street and find 3 50 pack spindles of DVD-R sony's MIJ. Well they were not on sale but they do match Best Buy prices. So I was able to get 3 more MIJ spindles for 12.49 each or a total of $39.33(includes tax). Not a bad deal when they do the price match! I got the price match plus 10% of the difference in price. I saved a little over $80 by doing the price match!
Circuit City price $39.99... Match Best Buy of $14.99... Difference of $25.00... so I got an additional $2.50 off! If you have the time to do this, I recommend it. If they had more spindles, I would have picked them up!!
I will see what they code out as when I have a little time! Just thought I would share my good luck!

well, went to best buy, they had NO Sony MIJ DVD's, went to office max which is right next store to Best Buy, haha they didnt have any verbatim that was on sale. I complained to the manager that they should have more in the back. He said they ran out, they will get another shipment soon. He gave me two 25 packs for 14.99. Sweet!! I think alot of people are looking at this website and listening to all the experts here at AD. Awesome work guys!!

Just back from Best Buy. 50 pack of Sony DVD+R (MIJ) for 14.99, not bad. Less than $0.32 a disc.
Also when I was there, I could not pass up a 1 GB flash drive for $40.00.
Next thing is a new hard drive. this 40 GB is getting way to small. Any thoughts on a decent brand for a 120 or 160 gig?
Any thoughts on this one? http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?product_code=309...

I picked up (2) 50 pack Verbatim spindels at Office Max.
I think people in my area like CMC-Mags better, because Office Max always has plenty of Verbs left even on the last day of the sale.

If anybody lives near a Staples & a Best Buy that are near each other, do this: Grab a Sales Flyer from Best Buy that has the Sony DVD 50 packs for $14.99. Go over to Staples & show em the ad. Staples WILL "Price Match" Best Buy 110%. You'll get those Sony DVDs for $12.49! Note: It has to be the same Sony DVD+R 8x 50 pack.
Use The Best Media for The Best Burns! TYs, Verbs,(Made in Taiwan) Sony MIJs (YUDEN000 T02), Sony Made in Taiwan DVD+R 16x, Maxell MIJ, RITEK G05.

those are BOTH made by Taiyo Yuden and are some of the very best media you can buy locally~ HOWEVER, you got the 2 mixed up...LOL
TYG02 = 8x DVD-R media
YUDEN000T02 = 8x DVD+R media
you have the media ID reversed...simple mistake, but, just wanted to make sure you understand it clearly...

Picked up some of the Sony's at BB today. Just wondering...they had both the 8X and the 16X, but I stuck with the 8X because I believe the 16X will code out as Sony made and not Yudens. I picked up some Sony 16X at Comp USA a few weeks back (MIJ) and they coded out as Sony made discs. Does anyone know if all the Sony 16X MIJ code out as Sony made? Come to think of it I don't think the local BB had any Sony 16X MIJ's...not totally sure of that but the ones I looked at were all MIT's. Only the 8X's were MIJ. Just curious about the 8X and the 16X. Oh, and the 8X +R's I picked up indeed ID out as Yudens.
