Ok,, I said this somewhere else in the forums as well, but I will put it here too... We put firwall in our mediacenter PC, Just love the fact that my DVD's fit on into the media center system.. lol.. but anyways, Nero 6.6.0.17 and DVD Shrink 3.2 do not get along.. If you have upgraded your Nero lately, due to lets say a DVD burner upgrade esp w/ the lightscriber system.. you may find you will have problems w/ DVD Shrink shutting down when you click on the backup button.. to fix this problem, goto your preferences, uncheck the burn w/ Nero, and at this point your will have to save it as files on your hard drive instead of doing the quick burn.. Once on your hard drive then open up Nero and burn DVD.. Or you can upgrade your Nero to the 6.6.1.4 ver don't know if this really works w/ shrink 3.2, (haven't tested it yet, but like I said my DVD's just goto into my Media Center system)

Keep tinkering with Recode. It's faster than Shrink for me hands down.I do most of my backups with recode. I use Shrink when recode won't work with some movies. As always AnyDVD is running in back ground.You may have advanced analysis checked and slow encoding. But it is still faster than shrink with it's analysis checked on my system. Normal time for recode in AA and SE is about 30-35 mins.

@garmoon.............
I saw a box checked, that said "Analyze Files While Importing", and saw nothing about slow encoding. Where are these you're talking about?
Is there a guide for Recode somewhere? I didn't see one at bbmayo's site. Thanks.

You have to open Recode with a disc in drive. Select option like recode movie only and window will open. Import DVD button for it to scan the movie after that click next and Burn Setings window opens. Here's where advanced analysis and high quality mode(slow encoding) are checked along with speed and # of copies. After setting then click burn and you should have a movie only to play in 30 mins. You don't really need a guide.

Thanks garmoon.......
I'll give it a try sometime. I'm one of the few people that likes the extras, so I burn the whole disc, except for french and spanish soundtracks. But I'll try one, just to learn Recode better. :o)

JVC,
If you like all of the extras then use DVD-Rebuilder( free edition-Use the HC encoder). It will take longer but it will give you better quality.

Canes up 2-0 w/ 1 minute left in 2nd period

For what it's worth..........
CloneDVD2 w/anyDVD 6.0.0.4 w/+css free 5.9.7.6 did:
Firewall, The Big White, Underworld Evolution, Running Scared, Straight into Darkness, and 3 Burials w/ no problems whatsoever, each in less than 1/2 hour. Comp ratio's varied, some left out DTS, some did with just movie and menu, some did w/everything depending on what was included, ie if it was woth the loss in compression to have it there. Movie + Menu and have it jump straight to menu is usually good enuff for me.

Pretty easy movie, did Firewall with only DVD Decrypter and Shrink. No need for AnyDVD at all.

Garmoon..........
Got to playing around with Recode again. The movies are encoding in real time. That's why it's so slow. I found where I can change the encoding time, but it affects the quality. What speed do you use, and still have good quality? Thanks.

Hey mcmenace...........
Wassup? Haven't seen you in awhile.

Something's wrong with your set up. I run recode in advanced analysis and slow encoding. In the preview window, as the pc works, it's not moving in real time but fast forward. I don't know what speed the recoding and analysis are taking place cause I've never really concentrated on the figures. I think it gives them as it works. With a P4 2.26 and 512 Rambus RAM it never takes more that 40 minutes start to finish nothing else running. I burn Sony 8X TY T02s at 8X with BenQ 1650. No issues.

Edit: After rereading where you said you got free version of Recode, that might explain why the thing is runnng slow. It's made that way to get you to invest in the 6.6 or7.0 Ultra Suite program that most of us are using.

wuzzup??
Things been going sooo smoothe lately haven't stopped by.
Only problems I've been having is with the freaking blanks. For example, trouble with Imation (+), none with Imation (-), trouble with Phillips etc. Figure people here know what to use by now, see you're still experimenting, good idea. I'm pretty satisfied with results I'm getting with fox/sheep, got a new MP4 receiver and DVI Interface to go with HDTV, everything looks good =)). See the new DVD's take DVI cables, not enough plugs on TV though, have to use composite/progressive scan for now. Take Care

@garmoon............
When you have files in the Content window, and click on Next, the window that opens, with the Burn button at bottom right, there is a column on the left with Burn Options and below it is Nero Digital Settings. Click on Nero Digital Settings. To the right, there's a Profile box. In that, click on Quality/Speed. To the right again, there's a drop down box that has Custom........, Fastest Encoding, Fast Encoding, Normal Quality, Good Quality, Best Quality, and Extra Quality.

Under Encoding Method, there's a drop down box that has Real Time Encoding (1 Pass), High Quality Encoding (2 Pass).

I think if I change any of these, it will affect the speed, from even slower, to faster. But I want to keep enough quality to the picture.
Does your Recode not have these settings?
Thanks.

@JVC

My Recode is not the same version I guess as yours. The actual version of my Recode is 2.2.6.17 my NeroSuite version is 6.6.0.18 last good stable version of Nero 6.6. To get anything about 2 passes I have to click on the More button on left bottom of the window. which gives some more options like booktype settings and configure which opens a new window with 6 tabs one being about the passes Mine is set to default setting "do not ask me and never do a second pass." But in the window before the configure window there is the option which allows you to check the advanced analysis which will encode your DVD in two passes will take longer and ensure better quality. and also check high quality mode (slow encoding) From what i can tell I'm using the slowest way to get to a burned DVD and it's taking less than 40 minutes. Whatever, the DVD I'm gettng is very good quality. Just as soon as one gets use to a version they come aong and change the way you interact with it. A good example is AnyDVD they changed it with latest version.

My Recode 2 is version 2.2.6.17 also.
Oh well....... I'll play around with it once in awhile.
Shrink still works, and is pretty quick. Plus I have CloneDVD that works even better than Shrink. So, I'm not hurting for software that works.
Thanks anyway.
