I don't think Sony will reduce the price for Europe and Australia next year. When the PS2 launched in the US (October 2000) it was $299. When the PS2 launched in the UK a month later it was priced at GBP299 or $560 (at today's rate).

Well I doubt it will be cheaper when it comes out in March for all the other countries because sony isn?t going to lower their price until awhile not in a few months. Besides even if the prices do go down it will probably only be 20 dollar drop and by that time in North America the prices would have already dropped by $20.

Ive been sitting here wondering a few things
1. Is the 400,000 just U.S. or U.S. and Canada?
2. How many of each system will Sony make?
3. Who will get the systems IE Game stores, BestBuy's, Walmart's, Target's?
4. Will larger metro areas get more then smaller ones?
Dont let the door hit you on the way out, beacause I dont want ass prints on my new door!

Quote: I guess Sony might lower the price in Europe and Australia to make up for the shortages, at least something to make up for it. But if they don't, then I will be angry...
Get angry because there is not a chance in Hell they will drop the price til at lease the system is a year old. This dont surprize me i rather them do this to me early then to wait like someone did during there release and not tell me they was going to have a massive shortage.During 360 release there was people that had pre-order there system months in advance and came up empty on release day.

Sony Rep: PS3 Launch Will Be Bigger than Xbox 360's

In an interview with IGN.com, Sony's senior director of corporate communications, Dave Karraker, points out that despite the recently announced PS3 launch cutback, Sony will actually be shipping more PS3's than Microsoft did with its Xbox 360 console.
PS3: Bigger than the 360?
PS3: Bigger than the 360?
Referencing Sony President Ken Katarugi's statement that the North American market would initially see a scant 400,000 units, Karraker is quoted as saying that that "is just below what we had available at launch for PS2 and is higher than what Microsoft had for Xbox 360."
"More importantly, in my mind," he continues, "is that we will have 1 to 1.2 million units available by December 31 in North America." He again compares it to the Xbox 360's performance, noting that, "[t]his is more than double what Xbox 360 sold through during the same period."
According to some estimates, the Xbox 360, which was released on November 22, 2005, sold 326,000 units in its first nine days of sale and 900,000 units at year's end. If Sony can deliver on its revised promise of 400,000 launch units and 1 million plus units by year's end, then numerically, it would outperform Microsoft's next-gen console by a thin margin.

i remember the ps2 shortages, i got one the crimbo they come out and soo many people dint. the shortages though create demand, so from a sony point of view this could create more pre orders for march time.
i have a feeling that more people are going to be wary bout buying a ps3 at its ridiculas high price then they were to buy a ps2. so the delay could be a positive thing!

Quote: Sony HOPES to ship 2 million by the end of 2006. I don't know how many for North America and how many for Japan.
those were the numbers before the shortage was announced. i have a feeling once the 400k are launched for northamerica we wont see any more until march or maybe even april. i dont care becauce ill be in the desert from jan until may. When i get back ps3's will be easy to get and ill have more than enuf money in the banks to pick one up and a few good games. oh and my 42 in HDTV

i was wondering how they intend to sell about 1 500 000 ps3 in 2 month..
we are now in september so until november they have 3 months...
in 3 months = 400 000
so after we have november + december so only 2 months and they intend to sell 4x times what they only produce in 3 months...
should be a trick somewhere ^^
personnaly i don't really care i have enough ps2 games to finish before going to a ps3 :p
be a rock and not to roll ^^

The PS3 delay is affecting developers too:
http://www.i4u.com/article6504.html
Quote:
"Sony has run out of PS3 test kits to give to developers. Since the announcement of the European launch being delayed, nobody has any idea what's going to happen with the PS3 port of F.E.A.R... specially since we only have the one PS3. And it's a devkit. In case you haven't seen those things, they sound like giant vacuum cleaners. They're reportedly ridiculously complicated to use, specially when upgrading the firmware. It has just the one controller, and it's not even the proper PS3 one even! It doesn't have those "innovative" changes from the PS3 controller, it's just a Dual Shock 2 with a USB Mini port."
@sj512:
It'll be very very difficult to import one from the US. You can be sure each and every unit that comes here until next year will be sold in less than 60 seconds. It may be better to wait until it gets released in your area.

it wont be, and if it is not significantly. if games are more than 65 bucks, maybe 70 if its 1st
party and complete ownage. if it turns out games are higher, the ps3 will not see a spot in
my living room untill the brits do, or even not see a spot untill a price lowering.
*edit: aha i said froom, but its fixed*
But they all do sort of the same thing, and that is rearrange what you thought was real, and they remind you of the beauty of very simple things. You forget, because youre so busy going from a to z, that theres 24 letters in between... You turn on... tune in... and you drop out...

ahaha. you know how much patients i had with them and hope it would be good, and all the letdowns and the fact that if i get one the laser may die or something from rushed production. factor that and and see my position. so alot of the fans must be feeling my way, if not worse. as long as i have one before christmas vacation if they turn out well i'll be happy. if that games are too high, or i dont have enough money at the time and can see some bugs over the few weeks im raising the extra cash, then i wont mind ignoring it till the spring, where i'll have the cash and have a larger perspective. hell i, i was even considering a wii (not as a replacement, just a time-waster) instead at first cuz im in a reminicing mood and feel like retro gaming to remember my younger life. but that changes when i found my emu's.

Yeah me and anubis have both supported the system, but some things are just getting out of control with sony and ps3.
Hey anubis maybe we'll get one in 2009 lol.See I don't have lot's of money like some, I want a stable system that will last and play great games and I want it NOW!!!!!!.I NEVER was a fanboy and there is always other systems and my trusty pc.I still want one but I need some cooling down time before I brag on ps3 lol.

Yeah I was planning on buying a PS3 but once I learned the pricewas too much, I went and decided on waiting for the Wii, but now this delay has come up, I guess I could buy the wii and save up for the PS3.

Yeah well for me it's like this. If a system is better I pay more. In this case I think the ps3 is btter and more valuable.

No the price is fine but the recent delays and news of the diodes has me wondering what sony was thinking.I agree with face that you get what you pay for.Ps3 has the most power and the most hardware and features so it should be expensive. The wii is also a great system though it's low price only reflects the fact that it's not very powerful..

No kidding. That's exactly what I think. But it would be fun. And it is great for parents who want to get it for their 7 year old kids and stuff cause they dont know much about systems (welll most of them dont).
