Not a problem, I knew there was another way but I couldn't be bothered to search as the time...so I posted what was on top of my head.

Heard anything out of Rob?

IMO, the answer to the original post is: AnyDVD/CloneDVD2...

Wow this thread is going downhill quick.

@d1g1taltv

I wont analyize anything you have said in the previous post. But I will say this is a forum and you should expect some feed back to a guide that you have posted. Positive or negitave feedback. As long as it is constructive. So why ya crying about it?

ok everybody take a chill pill.

@d1g1taltv,

Glad it worked for you, but you did state the "EASIEST DVD" backup method. There are other easier ways.

Just use DVD FAB Decrypter to download to your HDD, then use DVD Shrink to compress your files and if you have Nero, use that to write. This is what I use and it never fails. Good Luck.

Why not just have "d1g1taltv" come out with his own guide and see how easy it is you use compared to the other guides on this site. Enough bickering over this. Im classified as a newbie on this site but Im no newbie. Ive learned the hard way. Trial and error and no guides. Nothing wrong with trying to do things on your own. Now making VCDs back in the day ,thats a different story.

Go Detroit Tigers.

Believe me, there are easier... quicker, more reliable ways. Clone dvd 2 and AnyDVD comes to mind as being the simplest, but also dvdfab decrypter and 1 click dvd with AnyDVD is also easy, and very reliable. Many different ways to do backups, to make claim your for whatever reason is "the way to do it" is almost laughable.

My 2 pennies-
As much as I like Arniebear it really doesn't hurt to have an extra guide, especially one geared to the "attention deficient" set that seems to account for 90% of the public these days.

Using free tools is a great way to get people started in backing up their collections. Sure, AnyDVD is the bomb from all I've read, and I use CloneDVD2 and can attest to it's ease of use. And if you are willing to pay for the added convenience of these tools, more power to you. But some people like free, at least until they get their feet wet in a process, so Ripit4me and both guides are a wonderful addition to Afterdawn.

d1g1taltv and Arniebear - ever think about having the Ripit4me site post a link to your help guides, or set up Geocities pages, with keywords so it shows up in search engines? I Googled Ripit4me and there are no "How-to" directions listed in the first few results.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

AnyDVD is a good program, and it did work quite well for a while. problem is, i did find a handful of dvds that it could not rip without problems. maybe i needed the newest version of AnyDVD? who knows, and i dont really care if you know why :) so dont bother. but basically the version i had was very recent and it did not work 100% of the time. i also am surprised ppl r still posting "how i do it" replys, its pretty funny. maybe next time ill just change the subject header of this thread, because i guess the 1000 other ppl have there own easier ideas as well. like i said before, post you own thread and maybe ill read it, but i doubt it because this works for me until they make other protection schemes.

coleken3 - i totally agree with you regarding the newbie thing and trial and error. guides r made if ur totally clueless, and thats perfectly fine if you are. i myself start ADD'ing out my ass reading "click on this option box to do this" kind of guides, and im sure most people can agree with that. trial and error works best for me because it lets you figure out on your own what the program is doing. if it doesnt work, than you keep trying!

But... your point seems to be that Arnie's guide is over simplified, and overly explainatory. You imply that there should be a guide for people who know what they're doing.

I don't understand why someone who knows what they're doing would need a guide.

And d1g1taltv, no one was psychoanalyzing you, or reading too much into your intentions.

You were rude, and when you're rude, you can expect people to react poorly to you.

Honest to god, its as simple, and easy to understand as that. You don't even need to read arnies guide.

AnyDVD and clone, nothing works better, faster or easier, of all the movies I have thrown at it there was nothing it couldnt handle, about 500, only one that would not take, the new release of Reservoir Dogs [15th Anniversary edition], and no there was nothing wrong with the disc, just for some reason clone and AnyDVD didnt want to finish it. I even tried it on two other copy programs, same thing.

OK, I'm almost a Total Newb, 'tho I have backed up up 2 or 3 DVDs before. I don't quite remember how, though... I know I used DVDShrink and Nero. So now this time I used these tools:

-DVD Decrypter
-RipIt4Me
-FixVTS
-DVD Shrink
-Nero (obviously for DVD Shrink to work)

Just like it says here. I thought I had a decent grasp of the RipIt4Me Guide. One thing is, I used its Wizard mode instead of 1-Click mode. I guess I must have missed something in the shrink process, though, because when I thought I was all set and went to burn with Nero (Shrink didn't call Nero), the files were around 8 gigs instead of 4.

I still have the folder full of files, VOBS, BUPS, etc. Should I just wipe them and start over with one-click, or do something with Shrink, or what?

@SnKlastic

Make sure you have DVD Shrink setup to use Nero as the burning program. Also make sure you have not selected DVD9 disc in DVD Shrink for the output size. There is an option for DVD Shrink that will let you choose DVD5/DVD9/CUSTOM make sure it is set to DVD5 or a CUSTOM setting like 4360.

Also some other advice for a newbie. Next time start a new thread if you are having problems backing up a DVD. Do not try to hijack another thread. Below is a link to the rules take a look at them so you do not find yourself in some trouble by breaking any.

OK, thanks, will give that a try.

Well in a way this was supposed to be an easy guide for people to follow. I guess in a way you where just replying that you followed the guide and it didn't work. Even tho you did not Hijack the thread I still think it would have been better for you to start another thread. That way you would get more help instead of being deep into a topic thread like this.

This really isn't the best guide to use. If you still have trouble let me know and ill dig up some other guides that probably would help you out more.

Thanks for the help so far. Getting back to my original question, does this method only apply to starting all over now, or can I apply this to the existing folder of files? Or should I ask this in another forum/thread?

All this bickering! Wow! I may as well join the fray!! I use AnyDVD and 1click dvd copy. It's nice and simple, just what I like. I will say that DVD Decrypter is a very nice program. I have some familiarity with it, and like it. I think that the guides are a great tool, not to mention a great reference source when you run into trouble! This site is for those that don't know to learn, those that know to teach and learn too. I personally love to use the guides as a reference when I am looking at other programs to improve my productivity. They provide me with a way to judge how well I will be able to interact with the software.

To those that teach, I thank you for the time you spend doing so. Keep up the good work folks...you are appreciated!!

aabbccdd answered your question. All you have to do is load the folder into DVD Shrink and as aabbccdd said choose the proper output size DVD5 or custom. There is no need to rip the DVD to the harddrive and starting over.

Thanks all, it worked. Sorry for the delay in getting back. Should it DVD Shrink/Nero over 6 hours to do this one backup of King Kong?
