You pretty much answered your question.
You say TRU will get something on Friday Dec 1. However, you say that you are #9. Is this an order list?? If so, screw the list and just call TRU every couple nights and see when they get their truck. Don't expect a call, even though there is a chance they will call you. It is in your best interest to assume they will hand out the systems on a first come first serve basis. Just make sure someone is available to answer the phone just in case. Odds are they will get some 60GB on that truck!!
The day of the truck, go an hour before they get it (or at store opening), and then before close. Go again the next morning. If this is far away from you, then you will have to hope that you get one from a phonecall from TRU.
As for the systems, there were a few more shipped this morning here and there.
I would strongly suggest you become more active in finding this system. Do not go way out of your way, but if you are going shopping, then make a stop at TRU or Future Shop. They should get random shipments of a couple units every week or so.
The 1,000,000 units that is scheduled by the end of this year is being shipped as we speak. The first 500,000 units are still out there though. You can find a 60GB one if you try though. There are more of those than 20GB ones. Try this Friday. There should be a shipment of 60GB systems. Each store may only get 2 - 6 though, so you will have to either be early, or hope the manager put one on the side for you.
If you want us to find a system for you, the best we can do is eBay, unless someone from your area is viewing this board. Actually, you should keep an eye on eBay if you have no luck. There were some that went under 900USD including an extra controller, free shipping (some worldwide) and a warranty. To you, this is worth 770USD so you are not far away from one being available on eBay at a good price also, the sellers lose money on these auctions:
System: 650
warranty: 120
Controller: 55
Shipping: 75
eBay fee: 25
Payapl Fee: 40
Total cost to seller: 890USD

Yah, its not even worth selling on ebay any more. Plus paypal fees are ridiculous and they will put your account on limited status if you sell a Ps3.

I just walked into the local Gamestop today on my lunch break with no intent to buy anything and they had one 20GB PS3 that had just come in. The manager said it would probably be one of the few consoles that they would receive before Christmas. Of course I bought it and I am wondering if I should keep it or sell it on ebay?? I am thinking about putting it on ebay 2 weeks before Christmas with the hopes that there is a shortage. Anyone else have any ideas on any profitable selling alternatives to ebay??

If you don't want the 20GB version, then sell it. It can bring you upto $800.
It cost you $540 right?? Don't put a reserve though.
System: $540
Insertion fee $.20 - $4.80
Pics and extras: $1
Final Value fee ~$25
Paypal Fee: ~$25
Box: ~$4
Bubbles/foam: ~$5
Shipping: ~$25 for priority or $50 for Express
Insurance: $8.40
Error correction: $33
Total cost: $673 - $700
Your break even price is $700 including shipping. You can make some type of profit on it.
Now, you said you might wait for Christmas.
You are taking a gamble, but think of it this way... You can always take it back. I don't know what the return policy is though. If it is 7 days, then you should list it soon. If it is 30 days, then look at whether or not you need the money. If you want a 60GB for yourself, anything you make on this one will lower the price on the 60GB. A $100 profit will reduce the price of the $60GB to $550 instead of $650.
Predicting the price near Christmas is tough. The demand for this system will be at least constant until Christmas with only panic boosting price. If Sony decides to ship 300,000 units during the week before, then eBay Demand will drop and price will probably not rise or maybe rise only $50 or so. The panic will offset the decreased demand.
If Sony actually has a shortage, or they do actually intentionally cut back production because of overheating, production problems, etc..., then you can see this one approach $1200. Panic + Demand!! People are insane, so they are hard to predict around the holidays.

Thanks for the advice JaguarGod. One more quick question? I have never sold anything on ebay before. I have maybe purchased under 10 things ever on ebay. I heard yesterday that I will not be permitted to sell the PS3 on ebay. Is this accurate? If so, should I be able to get a comparable amount of cash if I list in the Indianapolis Star newspaper? This is Indiana's premiere paper and has statewide exposure.

I gave up on eBay. You'll pay $40 in fees only to get some scammer to bid on it at the last second, which happened to me. Plus, everyone and their brother has listed their PS3 on there, but not everyone uses eBay. Put it on craig's list (free) and your paper (~$30 for 7 days of good exposure). Don't be greedy or people won't call (I applied for an ad when they were still selling high, by the time it listed they had fallen $800). Also, be prepared to return them. I'm amazed at how quickly the prices are falling. Sony is largely to blame for the poor demand now since they've done little marketing, unlike Nintendo.

Hey anomie,
I definitely agree with your response. What do you consider reasonable asking price. Currently in Indianapolis the lowest asking price in the paper out of 33 listings is $1,000 OBO. There are only 3 total that are listed below $1,400. I could place an add in the Indy Star starting tomorrow for like $45 for 2 weeks. I was thinking about asking $1,200 OBO with the thought of coming down to at the very least $900. I feel I have a great opportunity to get $1000 but we will see. What are your thoughts??

Close to the lowest price is best, imo. If you don't want to take a risk, make it lower than the lowest. $1200 is too high for a 20GB imo. I originally posted mine at $1800 (this is when eBay prices were really high and other paper listings were $2k+), but had to drop it to $950. That change won't take effect until tomorrow. Needless to say, I only got 3 calls at $1800, haha. $950 may be too high now, but it's something people can work with.

Their has not been a review on the PS3 yet i would wait till the reveiw comes out and if it is good the price may even go up farther. But then again for some odd resone the review is bad then the price will drop dramaticly.

While it's true that Craigslist can get you more $$$, there is more risk. You will have to do it in person and make it a cash transaction.
If you do go for Craigslist, bring some buddies with you and go to the bank with the person who buys it so you know the money is real. While most people will be nice there is always that one desparate durg addict...
One way you can reduce eBay fees is to boost Shipping. Charge $100 or something. People don't care for the PS3. This will offset your costs. Also, I noticed that listings with girls' breasts in the Gallery tend to go 25% - 50% higher. One 20GB ps3 with 1 extra controller and a game sold for $1325 + shipping!!!! That is more than any 60GB system within the last week!!!!
I think it is because if someone is willing to spend so much money on a system, they barely leave the house. A guy would be pretty desparate for a woman and somehow come to the conclusion that bidding higher will get him laid... Also, said desparate guy would want to view the auction since they will want to see a close-up.

So I had a similar experience; I stumbled across a PS3 preorder back in October, while I was asking about Wii preorders. I got one, and it just arrived yesterday. I figured I'd try Craig's List, since it was the simplest -- I've listed the thing up there twice now, and each one was "flagged" and "removed." It seems that in my area, at least, people are actively trolling craig's list and flagging all PS3 and Wii for sale listings -- even those that don't include a price!
I'm actually genuinely pissed at these assholes. Why should they care if a bunch of people list electronics. Oh well...
Thanks for letting me vent!
