I heard rumors that there are another 1,000,000 units to be shipped out (some before Thanksgiving???). This is what will decide.

They also said that 400,000 units would be shipped on launch day. There is no way that was true and there's no way they're gonna ship a million units in time for Christmas. They couldn't even fulfill 400,000 during the initial launch, what makes you think they can ship a million in less than a month?
I would wait until the first or second week of December. By then, all the desparate parents will be searching for PS3s for their kids.

I don't think it is a matter of not being able to produce or ship, it is more whether they want to produce or ship.
You may be right about the 2 weeks into December thing though. However, I still think there is a chance that there will be more units out soon. It seems like there are actually some stores that will be getting them next week, so that should finish out the 400,000 launch. Whether or not another 600,000 come out by Christmas is upto Sony.
I think if they are losing a lot on this system, they are in trouble. If they only make profit from games and accessories, then it is still in Sony's best interest to stay in the game and release more systems. If they only sell 300,000 systems by year's end (meaning they don't release any more), then they cannot expect to recapture the loss from games since they cannot expect to sell more than 300,000 of each title.
Nintendo and MS already have the edge. MS has about 8,000,000 360s sold and Nintendo about 700,000 Wii. This means both of them are selling more games than Sony. Since Nintendo's edge is not so big, Sony has a chance, but if Nintendo gets 2,000,000 units sold before Sony gets their 400,000, they might be in trouble. This could end up being another Sega Saturn or something.
The other possibility is that they are purposely delaying the next shipment until 2007 so that they can manipulate their bottom line (not take such a big loss to keep their stock price steady).

Hmm well I have a raincheck for a 60gb ps3 at walmart. I am the first to be called on the list to come and pick mine up. I'll let you guys know when they arrive because other stores will have them to prolly. But I don't think it will be another sega saturn, because people are going to buy the system. But I agree if their games are their only profit $60 is a lot for someone to put out. So people may stick with a few games for awhile until they say it's time for something new. But yet PS2 games were $50 and they sold like crazy. We'll just have to see the sales statistics. But whoo knowz for now.
In fact I think we would be fooling our selves if we have a community this large, and did not realize that there are some enemies present.

I found out Sony had more shipped today...
I got a call from one of my buddies, but I was too late. The last one was just being paid for. I found out that about 40 stores got 20 - 25 each (I personally called over 20 stores), so I don't know if they just finished off the the launch or if this was the second shipment.

1 million isn't much and shouldn't kill demand on eBay, unless most people who buy it keep putting it on eBay, which is a strong possibility. Is there a high enough demand among kids with rich parents? Will they stick with trying to get the PS3 or opt out for the cheaper and slightly easier to find Wii? Will the press keep giving it attention? Will 90% of that attention continue to be negative as it has been?
Everyone is jumping on the PS3 bashing bandwagon and not really giving them a break. (Yeah, their launch is majorly flawed just like the 360 and the PS2's launches). I think that's typical to do to the leader though. I remember Nintendo getting bashed with the N64 and Gamecube, now everyone is treating the Wii like it's perfect and Nintendo like they're cooler than Apple. That doesn't mean much in the long-run, games do. If I were Sony, I'd emphasize that...you can play the 349872349823748974 games made for the PS2 and PSX and you're buying a system that still has major developers behind it. You're getting so much for the price because they're taking a major loss on each sold, while Nintendo is already profiting. Of course, they're not out there saying this or saying it enough. Fight back Sony.

@cashman91,
I am pretty sure that these were the Black Friday Units and they just decided to set up a special section and sell them.
If the article is true about the weekly basis, then the price will drop. People still list the 360 on eBay and it is found readily at stores.

@cashman91,
Like I said, they were all being sold on Wednesday. If they never go them, that means they actually unloaded their whole inventory on Launch.
Besy Buy got them, Circuit City, Target, Gamestop/EB Games & Walmart all of them on Wednesday. I never even heard of Futureshop, so I can't comment on that store.
Like Silver112 is saying, all 285,000 are sold, so you will only see some stores get 1 - 2 per week to tease people (not every store unloaded its inventory). Yeah, and now it is open season. Workers (in most stores) can buy them. They were only not allowed on Launch.

Sorry, I was talking about the US. Canada is not going to get nearly as many.
Canada did supposedly get some for today, but maybe check out the stores tomorrow and Sunday as well. They may have gotten them, but they are not stocked. If the stores are a big trip for you, then phone the store or maybe get familiar with the store manager and ask about his/her inventory.
Canada may get 50,000 units total for the year.

i preordered at toys r us and they said they get a shipment on the december 1 but the thing is you have to buy an extra controller (already planning too) and two games( plannning on getting one Call of duty 3 and trading in the other one at a game shop)plus 14% tax in Ontario, Canada which will total $901 cdn
i think the games at toys r us in canada are $70 each which is high oh well

That was pretty smart. It is better to order it and not have to go through all the crap at the stores.

I think people are pretty stupid to pay $1500-$3,000 plus for this game system or any game system. you will never make up for the cost especially when kids will get tired of playing it or who's gonna let there kid sit in front of the tv for all that time just to make up the cost of someone buying one for that price. The only people that are making out on this are the ones that stayed up for days waiting at there nearest store to buy one at regular price and sell them on Ebay for triple what they bought it for(good business).

^^^I agree about making up the costs, but the 1500 - 3000 makes sense.
Even if you look at it at an economics point of view, the Demand curve is represents the amount of people that would buy something at certain price levels. It is downward sloping so this means tha there are people that would buy the system at extreme prices like $3000+, but this will be a small number.
Now, with eBay, what you are doing is filtering out all the price levels. This is price discrimination. You will have the people that want the system the most bid the highest and this will be at the earliest (at release and pre-sale). As time goes on, the price level will drop and you are seeing this now. There is a chance of another bubble near christmas, but this depends on what happens with Sony.
Now, with to justify the price, they come up with a made up unit of measurement called a util. A util is a measure of benefit or satisfaction. The more Utils the better. Each person has their own utility for any given item. The people that buy on eBay now, are the people that have ultra High utilities for the PS3 (or people with really spoiled children).
