I see what you're saying Creaky. Big Brother continues watching... Laws about digital copy protection are different from taped video content. "Fair Use" is being argued, but in many places it's illegal to bypass digital protection to do a copy, especially if you don't own the original. The forum can't look like it's saying copying DVD rentals is okay.
But what does it matter if a different protection is being shipped to Netflix? Unless the protection is something really special (which hasn't happened yet), somebody will crack it and there will be an app to bypass it. I don't see why they bother.

"The Descent" was an easy backup. AnyDVD and NeroRecode did this one; as I'm sure Shrink or DVDClone2 would have also. To bad, the movie's not very scary or good.

just to let everyone know what i did for descent was, i ripped it to my hd with AnyDVD, then i opened the disk and copied the files that were missing and/or a different size. then i ran it through VobBlanker just to be safe, and after that i had a perfect copy of descent.

After reverting back to older versions of AnyDVD which strangely have no problem with any of the current films, I'm wondering if SlySoft has perhaps had some changes in staff. You know it doesn't make sense, I've gone back to using version 6.0.8.5 and I'm having no trouble at all with upcoming releases that are encrypted with RipGuard or Arcoss? I was in the habit of not updating if I saw nothing wrong with the back up process and saddly I've gone back to this. I'll be using my 6.0.8.5 from now on or until I have a problem with it.

Here is what you do :
Use any dvd 6.1.0.1 running background and use DVD Shrink 3.2 to rip it to drive. I found that sony pictures dvds donot like clone dvd.
They will loop as the previews and some stuff are right on the outside edge of the dvd. as long as you have the most recent version of any dvd it will work.
Just make sure you take out the french but leave both english tracks in there or you will have no sound.

The title to this thread is all wrong. It has nothing to do with Shrink's transcoding abilities. It's all about users not being able to get "cleaned" and compliant files for it to use. Get a good compliant rip and Shrink doesn't have a problem when used properly. As far as that goes, a lot of transcoding apps don't have problems when they have good files to work with. Updated decryption software is the key and knowing when to use apps like FixVTS and VobBlanker for compliance problems.
