no i havent been able to burn everything, just the movie, no menus or bonus features. i had to run it through Vob Blanker, then open it with shrink and re-author and burn movie only.

Guys, this flick is a bit tricky, but can be backed up:)
It seems to be a problem with the current version of AnyDVD, but seems to work with older versions (AnyDVD 6.0.8.0 or 6.0.8.5), if you have copies of these versions (I keep them all just in case), reinstall one and try it.
The free way of getting it done is using DVDFab decrypter to rip with (main movie only to be safe and stop the looping process during playback), process the files thru VobBlanker, open the files created by vobbanker with shrink and process as usuall to produce a good backup.
Get DVDFab decrypter here (free)
http://www.dvdfab.com/DVDFabDecrypter3051Beta.exe
1)Use it to rip just the main movie only to your hard drive, it should create a VIDEO_TS folder containing the video files, take note of where you're storing the video files.
Note: If you're going to use DVDFab and have AnyDVD, disable AnyDVD while using DVDFab to prevent conflict between the two apps.
vobblanker here (free)
http://members.aol.com/posunplugged/jsoto/VobBlanker_2110_exe.zip
2)Next, process the video files created by DVDFab thru VobBlanker. First create a folder on your desktop and name it Decent, in that folder create another folder and name it VIDEO_TS, you'll use this folder for the output selection in VobBlanker.
Run VobBlanker and:

- for 'input video manager' selection, browse to where the VIDEO_TS.IFO file is located created by DVDFab decrypter and choose it.
- for 'output folder' selection, browse to the VIDEO_TS folder you created in the Decent folder on your desktop, choose the VIDEO_TS folder.
- now just click on the PROCESS!! button and wait for it to finish.
When it's done, you should have a new set of video files located in the VIDEO_TS folder that's within the Decent folder on your desktop. Close VobBlanker and run shrink, open those new files using the open files tab at the top of shrink's window (to do so: browse to the VIDEO_TS folder and choose it), shrink should import the files and allow you to process them as you normally would. You can have shrink autoburn to disk using Nero or DVD Decrypter.

It does suck for those who want the menu functions and all the extras, but not for me, all my backups are of the main movie only, that's all I'm interested in.
But you should be able to backup the entire disk if the older versions of AnyDVD I listed are used. You could also try using DVDFab to backup the entire disk, process thru VobBlanker, then use shrink to finish the process having it also process the entire video files.

Just finished watching my burned copy, came out great. VobBlanker saved the day again. It has save me countless times on these newly protected movies. I strongly reccomend everyone put it in the 'ol tool box, you'll definatley need it again.

OK folks... relax now, take it easy!! THE DESCENT ain't nothing special.
First of all, John123 is correct on VobBlanker part -- that's how the process goes (i.e. input = VIDEO_TS.IFO, output = new target). Second of all, VobBlanker is to edit, delete and blank out any unwanted junks (i.e. FBI Warnings, useless rating logos, previews, etc.) Third of all, make sure to get the latest VobBlanker 2.1.2.0B13 here http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p=898541#post898541
DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.5.0 should have taken care of THE DESCENT (US, Region 1) flawlessly. I'm ripping now while I'm typing this and DVDFab Decrypter took only 13 minutes to successfully ripped the "Full Disc Mode."
Here are some screenshots of how everything went smoothly without any glitches whatsoever.

NOTE: I even went as far as deleting some useless menus (i.e. photo still/gallery, etc.)

And presto!!! It's done, yep successfully ripped and transcoded. What I shouldn't have done is to leave out/unticked "HQSR," I was in a rush to provide this little guide and therefore I accidently left/used "AA + HQSR" checked via Nero Recode's quality settings. If only I didn't used HQSR, then I would have saved 10 extra minutes, but that shouldn't matter.

Hi, it was suggested earlier to get the lattest VobBlanker. I've been running my version 1.6.0.1 forever. So i try to download the new beta 13 version, & its seems to load ok, but the new file is not a (.exe) file, so i cant get it to work like my other version. is there a way to update my exsisting working program. not sure where i'm going wrong.tnx

I backed this DVD up using an older 6.0.8.5? I recently replied in surprise to a member here who had done this a few weeks ago. Now here I am doing the same thing for my last 5 or so back ups. Yeah my much praised AnyDVD up to version 6.0.9.9 and now 6.0.1.1 seems to be having hick-ups in there most recent updates? So I am finding success in reverting to older versions of AnyDVD with no problem?:P

A .zip file is a compressed file format used to keep the file size small for transfer reasons. In order to get at the contents in the compressed file it needs to be uncompressed/unzipped or simply put, the contents need to be extracted.
Alkoho's method will work just fine if you have an extraction utility like WinRAR (not free), but it doesn't have to be that involved and WinRAR isn't needed when windows XP has a built in extraction utility (free) for .zip files.
Download the file from the link given to a folder on your hard drive, once the download is complete, right click on the file and choose 'extract all' from the menu, click next twice, then click finish to display the extracted contents.
You'll see the extraced VobBlanker.exe file which is what you want, if you want to create a shortcut to the file, right click on it and choose..'send to--desktop(create short cut)' from the menu. A short cut to the file will be created on your desktop that you can use to run the file.
Now, wasn't that easy;)
Cheers.

wish i could say it was easy, think i'm just going to have to be happy with my older version. i've tried everything above many times today. i'll try to explain this. with my old version i click the.exe & the small box with the brown loading lines comes up & disappears within a sec. or two, then bingo the VobBlanker prog. is good to go. with the new version the box as described above does the same thing, but thats it, no VobBlanker program to use. hope i was able to make you understand. i right click the file you spoke of & i have 3 other extract options, but none say extract all. I've tried everything with no luck. hopefully my older version will keep doing the job. I really appreciate all the help you guys have been trying to give me.
