You dont know what the hell you are talking about.
Number 1: we DONT HAVE A THIRD SENSOR ON THIS MODEL!!!
Number 2: that straw falls in you have to take it appart to get to it anyway.
Number 3: the sticky tack dont dry up! I have a PS1 with action replay on the back and I have the same damn piece of tack in it from 19 90 who the hell knows???!!
Need I honestly bust out the tools and rip it appart to show you people that WE DONT HAVE THE OTHER SENSOR on a 79001!?

On the other hand you still need a third piece to block a third sensor at the left side of the lid just right the left hinge holdind the lid is, i recommend a flat straw. :)
But he just did that w/o blocking the third sensor...or do the colors actually matter?
I don't know...there is no 3rd sensor but i've blocked the other two and nothings happening...

Colors dont mater, just follow my advice and you will be set.
Then the sensor near the power switch aint pressed down all the way.
If it was the disc brake you would get a TOC error or it will spin at lower RPMs and act funny but not read the game.

Still nothing....i pushed it down slightly and didn't press down the poer sensor all the way so im assuming the problem is in the back
The disc play fine when it's closed but i cant get it to spin while its open...i have the power sensor pushed down ALL the way and the disk break taped back
and nothings happening
Edit: i did an experiment...when i lift the cover at a diagonal angle where the power sensor and the disc break sensor can't possibly be pushed down the laser moves....when i lift the other side it shift back...meaning the problem is to the right of the laser
Edit again: well i voided a fresh ps2 warranty...there WAS a sensor...and i ducktaped it down and everything is fine

Your method was true...a picture is 1000 words and you proved it...mine however works fine now using blocking sensor 1 and sensor 3.
Thanks though for your help

Then the box...and the system itself are mislabeled...

I never heard of this. Everything I read and looked at was the same thing as I explain. If it is a 79001 it has 2 sensors or its not a 79001.
Edit:
I do now recall something with different regions how ever but a NTSC 79001 should not have that sensor unless they either remade it with the sensor or a very few came with it at first then they stopped.
It being silver dont make any diference tho.
Here is what I really think. I think a few first release 79001 had it then they came out with the silver and those and the blacks at that time did not have the sensor. In fact the way the MOBO is set up along with the CD-ROM it dont even seem like you would be able to have one. Ill take pics tonight and show yah what I am talking about. In fact this reason is one of the reasons I cant use my older models ghost case.
Sorry but dealing with a few 79001's and not seeing a singl sensor like that on any just makes it hard for me to belive just someones text when I see it with my own eyes first. Mine and a few friends do not have the sensor.

Why would you need the flip top lid? Just get the keys or use our low cost methods. Preferably mine.; )

The point of my post was that you are telling people that they don't have a SCPH-79001 in more than one thread.
Just because you have not seen these systems with a sensor, does not mean they don't exist.
As obviously they can read their labels on the box, and turn on Browser to see what system they have.
So there are obviously 79001 systems out there with a sensor.

Calm down! I see they are OBVIOUSLY right. My point is that I have taken many apart and not a single one had this sensor so I assumed they didn't have the third sensor as well as the 100's of post that I read about this compared to the rarest ones that state they do. I then admitted that I was wrong ( another point I was making ), or did you feel like missing that part?

I am calm lol, unlike you. I did see your part that you edited to admit that your were wrong and that is good and I am glad you see.
For others who read this , you can also use this method to block your sensors or get the latest swap tool pro set and here for later PS2 models. They arent expensive and you don't need to void your warranty.
Or the tape and tissue method if you do want to open case and tape down the sensor.
But all in all you will know if you need tool c by putting in a disc and if stops spinning when you open the lid. If the disc is still spinning then you don't need tool c.

hi so you guys think thst a 79002 won't have the annoying one by the hinge and just the other two? I put a fliptop on the old slimline so the rugrats could use it easily without any dramas.

For those of you will the scph 79001 silver ps2 without the third sensor, can you tell me what is the last two letter after 79001? I think the last two letters can determine if it has a third sensor or not

Those are simply called color codes my friend. My 79001 is the only silver I took apart. The rest were black and they had no sensor so color has nothing to do with it.

I know those are color code and i think it has something to do with it. I wikipedia ps2 and realized that there are a lot of variation of silver out there besides satin silver. There is also metallic silver. I boughta scph 79001 yesterday and it looked like metallic silver not satin silver. I am not too sure on the color because I didn't pay attention to the last two letter of the box. It doesn't have a third sensor. However, it wasn't able to read some discs so I ended up returning it and got another silver ps2 today. The new ps2 scph 79001 I got looks a little different from the previous one. It is satin silver and it has a third sensor. So, I am thinking maybe it has to do with which color you have. Or, maybe it has to do with the serial number. I am so confused now. I don't want to make another trip to the store and test my luck to see if I can find the one with no third sensor. If anyone has one ps2 without the third sensor can you guys maybe share with us perhaps your serial #, model #, or the last two letter of ur ps2.

Mine is SS ( satin silver ). I really don't get why they would have so many variants within the same model and within the same time frames of builds. I also would never trust a damn thing wikipedia says.
You should really try to compile the date of builds. It would burn resources ( $$$$$ ) to have so many assembly lines at once to process all these different variants at the same time. Also the region of build or distribution may be something to look at.

when the first slim ps2 came out, they made a series of limited edition ps2's the were metallic silver, white, yellow, red, and blue. thats the metallic silver. The silver satin are the new silver versions.(SCPH 79001)
