Your welcome, you also can for free use the tape and tissue method.
Just means you have to open your console and void warranty if you have one.

Lol, I guess hey
But I think it would be easier to do a TOC refresh if needed with tissue than with sticky tack. Or is the sticky tack easy to come out?

The sticky tack pulls right out no problems at all. And trust me I know some people say the tissue works fine but sometimes it needs to be played with to be firm where the sticky tack is just,.... firm all the time. If any gets left behind all you need to do is roll it up and dab it on the remainder ( if there is any ) and it pulls it out. It will stick well to plastic but it wont harden at all and even if for some un-earthly reason it would, a PS2 is plastic so it wouldn't harden to it. In fact it wont even leave any types of residue behind for the fact of it beeing plastic either.
Like I said, I have been using the same piece in my PS1 when it was in the pioneering stages of playing imports with a pro action replay ( the big ugly box that went on the back ).
EDIT:
I also never recall haveing to ever once do a TOC refresh.

Delmorte thank you very much for your informative posts. I also have the 79001 version and it does only require the use of two keys. The third censor does not exist on mine.

all this talk about if 79001 has a 3rd switch or not might also determine where the ps2 was bought from in the first place.
On my old 79001 I bought it at our local Wal-Mart, it DID have the 3rd switch. (since took back and bought another 70012) Now remember when GH3 first came out? Wal-Mart had their own "special bundle" for it where it only came with the SG guitar and NOT the Kramer.
Wal-mart does the same with their Schwinn bicycles as well. Special offers for "quick clearance."
don't believe me? Next time you are at wal-mart look at ANY Schwinn bicycle and I guarantee that the last 2 numbers of the model number will say "WM"
As I do believe Sony does these "quick clearance" deals with Wal-Mart, being they are te world's largest retailer

Wrong again. This is where I got mine from.
It has to do with the region you live or where the PS2 was assembled if anything.
Think about the different versions of the XBOX and where it was assembled being a way of almost definetly telling what version it is.

I have something very interesting. I only use the 1st key above the power button and I am not even using the second key anymore. I put the Swap Magic 3.8 DVD in the PS2 and close the lid. I power it on and wait til it boots. I open up the lid and put my game in there and close back the lid then hit X. Next thing you know the game loads up. Gotta love how things tend to work out.

Try it with other games. I doubt it will always work out.
Thanks for sharing anyway.

I bought two PS2 slims SCPH-79001's. Both black and both from the same store Gamestop. One has the third censor and the other doesn't....
Now I am returning the one with the 3rd censor and I am not sure how to buy another one that doesn't have the third censor...
Edit: If any of you guys who reads this and wants to block the 3rd censor easily, go here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/308926
All credit goes to Ace_2 for the guide and the pictures. Please go to his thread for more information.
I put a straw all the way down onto the censor and it worked wonderfully. So, you can either buy the magic keys II and apply the first two tools and the straw method, or you can just get some sticky tack and block the first two censors instead of using the magic keys II.
Conclusion: Some SCPH-79001 have the third censor while others don't. The simple fix for the 3rd censor is to insert a straw like what is pictured in the link above.
Hope this helps out the noobies that are reading this. Also you don't have to open your PS2 to block the 3rd censor, thats what using the straw does.
Edit #2: Also this forum has A LOT of information on it. I had to spend almost 20 minutes just to find the link I posted above so, a lot of the questions you might ask are probably answered on some other threads. Just use the search feature, it works.

Many times. This is just to help out the newbies if by any chance they read this thread, like I did at first.

There is no way for me to find that out. All I know is that I bought them both from the same store. I am almost certain that the PS2 with the 3rd censor is an old edition of the 79001 series since there was dust on the box and the box was beaten up a little.

So I guess if you look at the sticker on the bottom under the serial number where it says manufactured it wont tell you?
Mine does.

See thats what I looked for at first. There is not a word of "manufactured by" or anything similar. However I did find a seal on the bottom saying "GENHON CO.,LTD. BF" BPA-BD310/SCP160/K180 CHINA
I'll go find the other box and see what it says.

Under the serial number should be a paragraph with some info. The last line should read something about a date code. The date code should be in a colored square. Then following that should be the area of manufacture.

I'm having a serious problem
When i play backups (with the lid down) the laser just stops....period...then tries to read the disc again but it never works
it happens at various points...sometimes during the game itself or as early as the developer names when the game boots up
Normal Ps2 games work fine
Is it the swap magic or what?

And if you play the backup with the lid open, do you have the same problem. Is this on all your backups or only a couple backups?

The disc brake shouldn't matter if you have it blocked, I can open the lid on my V14 while the game is playing and still works fine.
That is how you tell if your tools are properly placed. The PS2 is tricked and can't tell if the lid has been opened.
I just don't of course because its better to have it closed.
Or the issue may be with your particular backup. What game is it that is giving you the problem.

Well out of these three backups
Prince of tennis smash hit 2
Runs fine but that was during the week
Narutimate Hero 3
I'm lucky if i get to the title screen
Narutimate Accel 2
I get into a match and the music stops because the disc stops
The thing is ALL 3 of these backups used to work fine, but now the laser will stop reading it..
My ps2 is tricked because when i open it i see the laser at the bottome but the disc isn't spinning and the red light on the laser isn't there
