It sounds like it's probably a POPS issue, as no errors are being given.
Are you using vista on your PC though, as that may effect it.
Anyways...the first thing to try is a clean new install of POPSLOADER. See THIS guide for detailed instructions.
Install POPSLOADER, and try the game on 3.71 POPS, hopefully that should solve your problems. If not, post back and i will have another look into it for you.

hey ibiz.
So I happened to pick up a PSP slim open box on the weekend for a mere 75 bucks Canadian which further side tracked me.
However... the unit was official firmware 3.60, its since been modified too 3.90m33-3. And while I was using one of me old PHATies to upgrade it I ran an upper on the PHAT too.
So I moved the PHAT from 3.71m33-3 too 3.71m33-4. Just a little minor upgrade. Cause I still wanted to run the NTSC FF7 disks threw PyPops and see if I could get that running on the PHAT at its current firmware. I figured a tiny update wouldn't do much harm.
After all the customization was done I formatted the UPMS and reloaded my old memory card with the full PyPops 3-disk PAL version of FF7 on the stick. Just for kicks I wanted to see if the newer SLIM with its fancy 3.90m33-3 would run the Multdisk EBoot.PBP.
Well it did. Horray!
But then for afew more kicks I tried it on the PHAT. Guess what? Ran fine! That minor upgrade from 3.71m33-3 to m33-4 was all I needed to do, for the multidisk to function great. Strange.
And since that multidisk had the Game ID of the same name as the file save I've had going for so long, its able to open any of the disks now. And if you click on a save from a previous disk, you can load it up and change it in the "Switch Disk" option of POPS. Its really fast. Faster then it would be on the PSX.
Bottom line if you dont get any syntax errors and its still not running, perhaps all you need to do, is upgrade the custom firmware
I don't know if this info would be worth adding to your guide but I hope it helps. As for the fellow trying to convert back ups of Parasite Eve into isos, why not try to use your original disks?
I thought PS1 backups could be run threw a conversion so that it could better guarantee a chance of running on certain modchips at the time. Essentially patching the game to work with a modchip.
If not just ignore what I had to say. :)
Well Pypops rocks. It would also be interested to know if I pushed the PAL isos threw Pypops with an NTSC gameid, if it would affect it at all. My guess is it might not. If no syntax errors come up then probably not.
And just for reference I titled final fantasy "FF7(PAL)" when I put it threw Pypops.
Cool. :) Thx again for your great guide, Ibizagti!!!

I want to say thanks. Great walkthrough. One item to reiterate - I remember seeing it somewhere -- Make sure the game name has no spaces in it. As soon as I removed the spaces from the name, I stopped receiving the syntax error at the end of the job.
Thanks again.

Hey Sith
Glad to hear you got it sorted out, sounds like you got an excellent deal on the slim aswel!
I imagine somewhere in the upgrade from 3.71 M33-3 to -4 DaX made an update to the POPS compatibility, which seems to have fixed your problem. Well done, and its a bonus that your game save workd too :)
I imagine that changing the game codes will effect the compatabilty of it, as some games work better on different firmwares.

can you add images that you can see in the XMB before you load up the game? like icon0 or whatever.

Have you tried creating an eboot with the guide yet?

The files you add into PyPOPS need to be the disc images...ie in iso/bin/img format. Rip the images using imgburn and then put these files straight into PyPOPS. Let me know if you have any more trouble.

cheers ibizagti i have started fresh & i have now done it. One thing though i had to write the code in capital letters before it would work ie: SLUS. But i cant use my game save & the pypops programme doesnt allow me to add any pictures. Not worried about that though i will just work my way through. Once again thank you for the help.

Hi All,
Well ive tried this several times and it just wont work :(.
However for info, i did a single eboot early and using Popsloader (3.71) and worked fine.
When i use this program and do a dual ISO eboot, it comes up with a grey screen, popsloader doesnt load either. I can exit using the HOME Menu though, and see the disc change menu.
Its MGS1 im trying to convert over. Im using the genuine discs, using MagicISO to generate an ISO. The game code (off the front of the CD) is SLES-01370 but CD2 is SLES-11370.
Using a PSP Slim, CFW 3.90 M33-3...
So what now? Im out of ideas, other than rip the CD using your preferred program?
Whats strange is that it seems to crash on load, and even holding R doesnt bring up popsloader menu.
Weird... answers on the back of a postcard ;)

OK, After two hours i have came up with a fix!
Right i have CXMB also, and had both plugins enabled. I had a feeling that both these will not work at the same time, maybe a conflict file?
So i completed removed my plugins, and re-installed the Plugin for Popsloader, and the menu now works, and in 3.71 it runs fine.
So OK, but now its time to find a fix to run CXMB & Popsloader... Any ideas :)
And a MGS1 Related question.. when it tells me to enter CD2, will the option on the home menu become available, or will i need to reset using CD2 option?

@delbert69
Glad you got it working :)
If you add the pics you want to use (in .png format) into the PyPOPS folder and name them PIC0 and ICON0 PyPOPS will get the images and apply them to the eboot for you.
@envy1985
Yes, i have had the problem before with CXMB and POPSLOADER not working together...luckily im on 3.71 M33-4 so i have to use POPSLOADER verey rarely.
As far as i remember, when you need to insert disk 2 the option becomes available on the home menu...its been a while since i have played it tho so it may be the other option.

Hi, I am new to the forums. :)
I must say very nice guide, Ibizagti. :)
You made it easy to understand. However, I have tried very hard to get Final Fantasy 7 on my psp and I cannot. I tried when I first got it, however I failed. This wasn't too much of a problem though because I had other games to take up my time, but now I want it again. I tried using your guide and I have tried other guides, and even trying three separate eboots. None of these worked properly.
To start off I am currently running CFW 3.90 M33-3. I am attempting to use the 3.80 popsloader (UPDATE: I also tried using the 3.71 popsloader). Using the popsloader I have tried running 3.52, 3.71, 3.72, and the original. I have tried playing it without the popsloader. When I try without the popsloader I get a black screen. When I try with the popsloader, it freezes on whatever I select. I have the image files from my disks. I have tried making them into ISOs, and into CUE/BINs. This goes for when I use a single eboot or three separate eboots. The game code I am using is: SCUS94163. I have tried using several programs to make the eboots; IceTea, PopstationGUI, PSX2PSP, and the PyPOPs to name a few.
I cannot figure out what I am doing wrong. The problem is with FF7. I have got FF6 and Chrono Trigger to work perfectly. No glitches at all. Is there anything you can think of that may help out?
Thanks again for the guide :)

Are you using the PAL or NTSC version of the game? If it is the PAL version use SCES00869 as the GAMEID, and try running on 3.03 OE-C POPS. If you have the NTSC version, use GAMEID SLUS00892 and try on 3.71 POPS.
Make the Game title something like FinalFantasy7 (no spaces).
Also, HERE is a great guide on how to install POPSLOADER, follow this to install it correctly.
Give that a try and let me know how you get on.

ibizaGTi,
I tried all of the things you suggested. I am using NTSC. I did what the POPs Guide said to do. I created the files myself, and then I tried taking the files from one of the downloads. I tried using both GameIDs. None of it seemed to work. The game still freezes on the selection of POPs screen. I really do not have any idea how to fix it. :(
Can you think of any other ideas by chance?
Thanks for any help you can provide,

There are loads of things that could be causing it really. 1st thing, do you have any other plugins enabled apart from POPSLOADER? if so try disabling them and running the game again.
Also, whe you are running PyPOPS do you get any error messages at all?

ibizaGTi,
No error messages from PyPOPs. I am not using any other plugins. Just the POPSLOADER. I do not receive any error message. If I try and load the game without the POPS then I receive a message, 0xFFFFFFF, if I remember correctly. I am kinda new to all this, and you have been very helpful and I appreciate that. :)
I am running Vista. I have not seen anything that says not to use it. I can try one of my XP machines if you think that may help.
Thanks,
Magick86

I have never ran the program on vista so i cannot comment on whether it would work...but try it on an XP machine if you can just to make sure.
Also, what size is the fully converted eboot?
If you run a different PSX game on the PSP does it allow you to use POPSLOADER then?

ibizaGTi,
Okay, I have the popsloader loading other games. It will try to load FF7, however it gets stuck on a black screen. Come to find out I pasted some of the popsloader files in the wrong directory. I'm such a newb, lol.
As for the eboot file size, it is 1.25GB. It was a different size when I used the .cue/.bin file. Around 1.5GB, if I remember correctly. I am trying to load with the 1.71pops.
UPDATE1: I just tried using IceTea to convert a single disk and it did work. I am going to try converting it with PyPOPS again and see if it works.
UPDATE2: I just converted it again, using the .bin/.cue files and it seems to work perfectly. Thank you all so much. I love these forums and the people here are super helpful :)
Thanks again for all your help,
Magick86

If you press the home button there should be an option called something Like "swap disks" (i dont have my PSP with me atm so can't check). Just use this option and it should load up disk 2.

hey ibizagti,I just wanted to say, what a great guide.Awesome job on it.I know this may sound kinda stupid, but this came across my mind. For example,if one was to convert to all 3 discs of Final Fantasy VII,should the person name each .bin file FinalFantasy(Disc #) or just the title? The reason I ask is because of the very possible idea when need to switch CD's,wouldn't the name stay the same? Then again, this is my first time doing a multi-disk conversion as we speak.Just a random thought that came up.

right, ive been having a bit of trouble with this so thought i'd sign up and ask.
i'm running 4.01 M33-2 and im trying to get MGS1 to work.
i have the actual discs, but its an NTSC version and my psp is PAL, but that should matter should it?
anyway i made the eboot following a different guide first, that compeltely failed, now when i use this guide it makes everything and i get an eboot at the end.
but the problem is when i try loading it up on my psp, it gets past the playstation screen and just goes into a black screen. should i need to be using popsloader or some other homebrew thing?
thanks :)
