Did you put the keys.bin file into your MGS1 folder?I know that after 3.71 M33,the keys.bin file is often not needed, but try to put it in just in case. You can run the game without popsloader, you would just have to downgrade to 3.71 M33-2 because I remember 3.71 comes with a built-in popsloader.I'm currently on 3.71 M33-4 and I was able to run Gran Turismo without any additional homebrew programs. If you want to stay at 4.01,then I guess you would have to download it because I've never used that firmware.sorry.If that dosen't work, then it could come down to the region problem...

edit . changed key to keys

what program did you use to make the eboot of MGS1?Normally,programs would make the keys.bin file. The file usually comes out with the eboot. If it dosen't,then the developers of the programs used 3.71 or above, which normally dosen't need the keys.bin file.I can't really say about popsloader,as I said before,I don't have the slightest clue.I would try 4.01,but i'm a bit busy.sorry.

i think i used the programs listed here.
i have imgburn
pytho 2.5.2
PyPOPS
so yeah the programs listed on page one.
the only file which was made was eboot.pbp
how easy is it downgrade from 4.01 to 3.71?

@ yellams : sorry for the late response,I had logged off as soon as I made that last post. It's pretty easy.First use the Universal Unbricker thread created by larrylje, follow the steps inside the thread to create the MMS.Once you are done, use your pandora or a friend's along with the MMS and the screen will show to install either 3.71 M33-2,3.71 OFW or to dump the nand, and there is another feature there, but I forgot what it was.Obviously you install 3.71 M33-2.Further steps are explained in the thread linked.Using this guide,I have been able to create an eboot for Final Fantasy VII,which is 3 discs.Hope this helps.

edit : confirmed at 12:26am USA Eastern Time, with 4.01 M33-2,my eboot of NFS High Stakes works, but has yet to get past the loading screen.Perhaps may need an popsloader......

ah right so its the same as downgrading from OFW.
i'll give it another try today and see what i come up with using popsloaders and other things.

edit: so your psx game doesnt load in 4.01 either?
thanks for trying :)
i'll hunt for a fix, if i find it i'll post it here

No prob.yeah,my PSX Games didn't work on 4.01 M33-2.It was weird though, since I upgraded last night,my MS which was formatted under 3.71,so I figure a format would do the trick.my game worked under 3.71 MS formatting as opposed to 4.01....But the game couldn't get past the loading screen.Maybe it's a game that isn't supported by Sony, but yet people have been able to recreate MGS1 and FFVII.The heck?I have no clue.Guess I'll be sticking to good ol' 3.71 M33-4. :)

edit:at 11:11AM USA Eastern Time,I tried NFS High Stakes on 3.71 M33-4 and it works like a charm.gets me lost. It's probably because 3.71 was made by Dark_Alex instead of the team, nothing against them though, lol.

i attempted installing popsloader on my 4.01m33
i downloaded it and placed it in the folders mentioned
the guide then said to download the OFW EBOOT and place it in the root, so after what you said i thought i'll gow ith 3.71
all was well and when i went to install it on my psp, it went into java script which i assume its meant to, but all it said was something like "PSP must be version 2.71 or higher" :S

Hi guys.

Sorry i havn't replied for ages, been really busy recently and just havn't had the time.

Right...

@francisc0 - try installing POPLOADER (see the guide in the stickies). That should hopefully sort you out (assuming you are on CFW. :)

@leikamkei - it doesn't really matter what the disks are named, as long as there are no spaces in the titles. Giving them different names would probably be advised though (i have never tried making an eboot with 2 disks of the same name however). Thanks for replying to the other posts too! :D

@yellams - sounds like you just need to install popsloader. See the guide in the "Ultimate Sticky Sticky" at the top of the forum. that should sort you out. :)

Again, sorry for the late replies...should be able to reply more frequently from now on though!

Any more questions just ask.

yeah i attempted popsloader earlier (see above post)
it didnt go too well, but alas! tommorow i'll give that guide a try
thanks :)

EDIT - this is the same guide i was following earlier, this i where it goes wrong - 5. Now, go the "Game" menu on your PSP and run the "PSAR Dumper" and press the "Square" button on your PSP to begin extracting the decrypted firmware files.
i do as it says up to there and it loads javascript and then says i have to be on 2.71 or above or something :S

i am 99% sure it will just be POPSLOADER you need to get this working.
You may be better posting the question in the POPSLOADER thread, as i am far from an expert on it.

I've heard that MGS1 works with 3.71,3.80,and some other firmwares.I'm not really sure, but the majority I've heard about is 3.71 because most people use 3.71. no prob ibizagti if anything,I was drawn here because of your easy-to-follow guide.Keep it up. :) yellams, the same applies to the popsloader version, but this is based on what I know and heard, which is somewhat vague due to me being new to this scene.

knfusd:you first use imgburn to get the images of the 2 discs of MGS1.Then,you use pypops to create a combined disc. Before making the combined eboot, make sure each image's name has no spaces. for example, one would normally put Metal Gear Solid, but in this case, you should name it MetalGearSolid,or however you may designate it,as long there is no spaces. In addition, you must get the game code of the game.To do this, download ICETEA and when you run ICETEA,you select the image of the first disc.In this case, after you're done ripping each via imgburn,it would help naming it in a manner that would help distiguish it from the others. i.e MetalGearSolidDisc1.Back to icetea, when you put in the image,on the right side,it should say Game ID.Type that in the window of PyPops where it asks for the code, and just wait for the program to do it's thing. But if anything, look at the 1st page of this thread,as ibizagti explains the steps clearly and thoroughly.also before jumping to making to eboot, look at the section named "UPDATES" in the 1st post as that will help you notice or fix unnoticed errors if they have slipped by.Last but not least, concerning about the time it takes,it's pretty fast, and mind you,my PC dosen't even have a 1ghz processor,so I'm pretty sure you're would be faster. If you want,do something while the program is running, helps time pass by. :D

YES!!!!!!
was just looking at some other guides and one linked to a site which said make sure you put psar dumper in a specific folder related to your kernal so i put it in all and one worked, then followed all the other steps as when i tried just using seplugins folder it froze on the selection for pops, so did all the rest and i now have mgs1 working!!! :D
thanks :)

i THINK what you do is when it asks for disc 2:
first get to that stage in the game
then press home
the switch discs option?
if not press reset disc and select disc 2

im not sure, but from memory that sounds right :)

hi, nice guide you got here. i made the Xenogears eboot and it is running smoothly till now. i thought at first that the game ID was just a random number so i made the eboot with a random game id number that i dont remember now XD. will this give me future problems in the changing disks step?

I guess I didn't explain myself clearly previously, as well as not understanding ibizagti guide as well. my situation maybe different than some others as I downloaded the 2 disks off the net.I already have 2 seperate eboots I thought that I could combine the two with pypops so I would get no problems when I came to the second disc. My question I guess is for one would I need to combine the two eboots? ( I think I would seeing so many previous posts ) and two could I do so using the pypops program? And if so how? cause using the images that I have I always end up after completion with a 4.68 GB eboot
